SWARTHMORE COLLEGE is this week's #CMCollegeoftheWeek !!⠀
Swarthmore College is a private, liberal arts college with a 1,600 student population, a 8:1 student to faculty ratio, and has a 425-acre campus that is officially designated as an arboretum (aka a garden devoted to trees for research and educational purposes). Swarthmore students or Swatties are encouraged to collaborate, rather than compete. In fact, one hallmark of the college's academic program is that first-year students take their first-semester courses pass-fail, instead of being given a GPA so that they can focus on learning for the sake of knowledge. ⠀
Students at Swarthmore College may also enroll in classes offered at Bryn Mawr College and Haverford College through the Tri-College Consortium as well as at U-Penn through the Penn Exchange/Quaker Consortium. Through Swarthmore's partnerships, their students are able to take advantage of a myriad of opportunities to enrich their academic and social life beyond the scopes of their campus!⠀
In terms of Financial Aid, Swarthmore College has a need-blind admissions policy and are committed to meeting a family's full financial need, going as far as making their financial aid packages loan-free! Additionally, Swarthmore College treats undocumented and DACA-eligible first-year and transfer students as domestic applicants and pledged their campus as a Sanctuary Campus for students and faculty in 2016. ⠀
If you are interested in Swarthmore College, consider applying to the 'Discover Swarthmore' program! It is an all-expenses-paid program that will allow you to visit the college, with applications due in the summer!⠀

I have been a teacher of Literature for twenty five years, and have loved it most for allowing me to share my loves and passions for not only my subject, but with LIFE with my students.
It is important to remember that you want your students to feel they are in a safe, trusting place where they can open up, be creative and express themselves freely. I think it's important to volunteer as much as you can while teaching. Run a club; be a class advisor; be in their shows and judge their competitions. It really helps you to connect with the student body!
I always tell them that they are the future, and for them and for the world, I want them to be critical free thinkers! I am grateful for their honesty and for continuing to teach ME each and every year. I always say that I am blessed that each year my extended family grows as I revel in their continued growth and accomplishments!
Every student has a spark within them. As a teacher, it is my job to find it, and ignite it!

It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.
What an amazing turn out for our Winter Term Community Mixer! We handed out hundreds of slices of pizza to students, faculty, staff and community members this time around! 🍕 During the event, many were able to engage in conversation with one another or with student groups that were tabling. It was great to be able to see these connections forming over the joy of pizza! We also handed out over 200 of our brand new sticker packets — remember to tag @pdxbschool and #pdxbschool in your photos so we can share in our feed and stories (and of course, you can send them directly to us through DM!).

Moraine Valley Community College is the first community college in the United States to be part of a video produced by and for National Geographic Learning, an educational publisher of digital and curricular classroom materials. The “Project Classroom” video brings life to learning by capturing footage of foreign students in the United States using the materials.
Moraine Valley has used these materials in its English as a Second Language (ESL) program for four years and in the Intensive English Language Program (IELP) for the past two years. The materials successfully address the needs of curriculum and content faculty are expected to teach. “It is an honor to be the first ESL and IELP programs at a community college selected,” said Dr. Nina Shoman-Dajani, assistant dean, Learning Enrichment and College Readiness. “We are one of many institutions that use National Geographic Learning materials, but being the first to be featured speaks volumes about our program.” A crew from National Geographic Learning spent two days at Moraine Valley recording staff and students around campus and in class using the National Geographic materials as well as conducting interviews. “We hope to promote learning in a different way than we have in the past,” said Joy MacFarland, product marketing manager for National Geographic Learning. “We are capturing real people in their real lives, real instructors, real administrators, real students interacting with our materials and the world around them.” Moraine Valley students interviewed for this video include those from Mexico, Palestine, China, Thailand, Syria, Jordan, Venezuela, Tajikistan, Poland and Japan, as well as staff and instructors. “The books are full of real-life stories and pictures from all over the world and recognize that each individual has a unique journey. The diversity represented in the materials is reflective of the students we serve. We believe the materials were designed to keep students engaged, and they do,” Shoman-Dajani said. #natgeo

“The right team means everything – at the board level and at the staff level. You need team members with the right skill-sets, and the right attitudes, and everyone needs to be aligned with the mission of the College. It’s a partnership! Keep deepening your relationships, keep connecting and be resilient!” - Principal Kelly Klopfer on advancing your mission. Kelly was excited to participate on the Community College Chief Advancement Officers panel yesterday, representing the @hudsonvalleycc Foundation Board. Members shared wisdom and best practices to help development officers run more efficient board meetings, conduct professional and impactful prospect solicitations and create a supportive, engaging and impactful volunteer experience for board members. #community#education#teamwork#collaboration#development#fundraising#highereducation#envisionarchitects

All the big cars, bitches and bullshit in the world won’t make you as happy as having one good pal 💯
Ok my beautiful people! Here are 10 things to remember this semester! My list explained... 👩🏻💻
1. Don’t doubt yourself.
2. If you don’t understand something or you feel confused, ask for clarification! Your professors are there to teach you, not to feel superior than you.
3. Don’t be afraid to speak up. Raise your hand (but remember to actively listen). You know that sucky feeling when you’re like, “Damn, I should’ve said something.” Don’t leave class with that feeling.
4. Get involved, find out what else your program offers, use it all!
5. Pursue any opportunities you’re interested in.
6. Sometimes we procrastinate or life happens. Email your professor first. But do not stress yourself out. The assignment is already late no need for the extra bad vibes.
7. Try to schedule time to work on assignments and stick to it. I know this isn’t always possible. But try.
8. Always try to maintain that balance.
9. Be as active as possible. Not only is this good for our mental health, it is good for our health, period.
10. You’re here because something drove you to purse an education. Don’t forget that part. That’s your motivation. #firstgenfriday#college#graduateschool#msw#mswstudent#socialworkstudent#highereducation#graduatestudentlife#studentlife#goodvibes#university#socialwork#firstgeneration
In my Acting for Camera class at BW I encourage the BFAs to ask for what you need when on set or in the audition room. A simple question is "How am I framed?" Knowing where you are in the frame, especially without a monitor, is one way to help you craft your choices. #actor#oncamera#work#craft#education #highereducation#prep
