I love the look of these coffee tins and do you want to know something I love even more?? They could potentially be #ecofriendly and #reusable ! This is one product packaging concept for Saison du Café.
If you didn’t see my previous post, I have been working on some personal projects lately...one being this coffee brand concept. Organic coffee with a touch of spice. I actually wish I could try it ☕️
I feel like everyone is getting in the Holiday spirit around here because the snow has arrived (in my town anyway). That has me excited but also inspired as I begin looking ahead to 2020 and what I want to envision for my business. So many dream clients out there and coffee and or tea is definitely on the list!
Did you know that around 51% of eggs sold in the UK come from caged hens?
In 2012, the EU banned battery cages for egg laying hens.
Their alternative, ‘enriched’ cages, only provide an extra 50cm2 of space?
Despite being called ‘enriched’, the new cages have limited room for the hens to move around, limited litter area, low perches and rarely any effective dust-bathing, which impaires their well-being.
The enriched cage is still a cage.

Yup. This fella has been overused as a garnish and is now oft overlooked in the kitchen for sexier spicier herb dudes.
Noooo! It's a key ingredient in many yummy Middle Eastern dishes and has many benefits... Its even a natural breath freshener.
I love love including fresh HERBS in our boxes.
Although I am among the many who try and grow them, but there is never quite enough to chuck around the kitchen as I'd like, especially at this time of the year. And fresh herbs bring such a lovely dimension to cooking.
If you buy from a supermarket, sadly they will be wrapped or potted (and then wrapped) in plastic for shelf life 😞
BUT for your Pear&Potato Veg Box we get big bundles in water tight reusable crates. No single use plastic here.
🌿 The Year of Less: How I Stopped Shopping, Gave Away My Belongings, and Discovered Life Is Worth More Than Anything You Can Buy in a Store by @caitflanders 🌿
WALL STREET JOURNAL BESTSELLER 📚
In her late twenties, Cait Flanders found herself stuck in the consumerism cycle that grips so many of us: earn more, buy more, want more, rinse, repeat. Even after she worked her way out of nearly $30,000 of consumer debt, her old habits took hold again. When she realized that nothing she was doing or buying was making her happy—only keeping her from meeting her goals—she decided to set herself a challenge: she would not shop for an entire year 😮
The Year of Less documents Cait’s life for twelve months during which she bought only consumables: groceries 🍒, toiletries 🧴, gas for her car 🚗. Along the way, she challenged herself to consume less of many other things besides shopping. She decluttered her apartment and got rid of 70 percent of her belongings; learned how to fix things rather than throw them away; researched the zero waste 💚 movement; and completed a television ban. At every stage, she learned that the less she consumed, the more fulfilled she felt.
Blending Cait’s compelling story with inspiring insight and practical guidance, The Year of Less will leave you questioning what you’re holding on to in your own life—and, quite possibly, lead you to find your own path of less.

Plastic wrap SUCKS. Did you know that each year, Americans alone buy enough of it to shrink wrap Texas?!? I 100% didn’t know that before researching it today. INSANE!
While the intention behind it was noble, keeping foods fresh longer to prevent food waste, the execution was horrific for the environment.
1. it’s difficult to recycle. Because it’s so thin, it requires special processing by special machines, which rarely happens. One of those reasons is because it’s actually MORE expensive to recycle plastic wrap than to make it with virgin materials (according to National Geographic). And when it’s misplaced in the normal recycling bin, it will end up clogging the recycling machines.
2. When it ends up in the landfill or incinerator, the PVC and PVDC material releases a highly toxic chemical called dioxin.
3. When it ends up in marine environments, the plastic wrap material attracts a lot of bacteria and metals. And then the plastic starts to break into smaller material, which then fish will mistaken or unwillingly eat on accident.
So yeah, the stuff sucks. But there are alternatives!!
1. Beeswax wrap
2. Silicon bowl covers
3. Air tight glass containers (or mason jars)
4. Reusable ziplock baggies (like from
5. Compostable brown baggies (these are not are tight though, and I rarely use these because they aren’t super durable. But when I do, I make sure to reuse them as many times as possible)
6. Reusing whatever plastic you have!! My mom and I have a two plastic bread bags from Whole Foods from a couple of years (!!) ago that we still use (mainly for getting more fresh bread and keeping it fresh longer)
7. Not pictured here, but I am known to place a plate over a bowl and stick leftover in the fridge that way 😂
Do y’all use any of these and have a favorite way of avoiding plastic wrap? Or better yet, do you use something else that I didn’t think of listing here??
(Ps: links for these are in my stories rn :)
