Whenever I see this quote it always makes me smile. Some days I embrace it - some days not so much. I’m guessing that’s true for all of us.
All days I try to remember that being willing to embrace our messiness is how we grow. ✨

I grew up in a tiny town of about 1200, with a literal cornfield in my backyard.
Every day during the school year, I walked the 2 blocks to my school where I attended Kindergarten all the way through 8th grade - isn't that crazy to think about now?
When school let out for the summer, I would beg my teacher for any textbooks, any workbooks, any old worksheets, ANYthing I could take home during the summer to play school.
Sure enough they'd stock me up and back home I'd go, on a warm May day, walking the 2 blocks down the sidewalk to my home, my bag filled with goodies.
Funny though, if you'd asked me back then what I wanted to be when I grew up, I'd have said a lawyer and drive a gold Corvette.
It wasn't until college that I realized all those years of playing school were actually a sign.
It wasn't until college that I realized that I wanted to be - that actually, I WAS, in my heart - a teacher.
So I changed my major - btw, I'd already let go of the lawyer talk and was majoring in fashion merchandising - to English with a secondary ed certification so I could teach high school English, just like my favorite teacher - and now dear friend - did.
It's been 18+ years since I stepped foot in a high school classroom as a teacher.
But you can't really take the teacher out of the girl.
I still teach, every day, just in much more comfortable clothes and on my own timeline.
I still get summers, and any other day that I want, off.
I still get crazy excited when I see that lightbulb go off in someone's eyes - when they realize their potential, when they start to truly SEE how their life could be, when they start to dream BIG...even when they just do one more squat or one more pushup.
This weekend was a big win for me. I pushed myself way out of my comfort zone not just once, but twice and both paid off!
First, going to Young Living Beauty School I knew that we sat around big tables from seeing pictures. So different from attending Convention by myself. I would be having interaction with people, or lack thereof depending on the people. (If you’ve ever read @lysaterkeurst story of attending a ladies event and ending up at a table by herself, that’s what I kept envisioning.) My table was great! We had great interaction and friended each other on social media at the end!
Next, we booked a lane at Blade and Timber axe throwing. A shared lane. We were just two people out of six possible. This meant we would be trying a new activity in front of strangers. 😳Believe me, I prayed a ton for the people who would be paired with us! We had so much fun with Becky and Clint (who were in town for Beauty School from Iowa) and Matt and Kim, dating professionals. We were all newbies and we all had good throws and bad. Everyone cheered for each other and really had a great time.
I’m not sure I’d have done either of these things six months ago. Definitely not the axe throwing but I’ve been doing the hard work of seeing myself as God and others see me and not the lies I tell myself and that’s changing my interactions in every situation. For the better.
Our last son just left for Air Force basic training tonight! When Michael became our family almost 3 years ago, we didn’t know what future he was going to choose. I hope we guided him to the right direction. I am so excited with him and his choice to be an Air Force! We love and proud of you Michael!! #airforcebound#gurdianparents#emptynest#proudairforcemom

Am I perfect? Nope, not even close. 🙅
It's been a few days since I worked out. Yep, I admit it - I slacked. At least I feel like I did - but sometimes, life happens!
Am I using it as an excuse? I hope not but let's face it - if something is important to you, you find a way to get it done. 😔
Everyone is busy, everyone can have a good excuse for why they did not do something they should have - but like a mentor of mine stated, if it's important to you - you'll find a way. 🙏
So, find a reason! I have a list of reasons why taking care of myself is important and why I want to help others to do the same. I guess sometimes life get a little out wack and I need to refocus. 🤔
Take time, slow down, and refocus.

The struggle is real! Gardening or Quilting! I LOVE both! ❤️
Today I had an hour for sewing or gardening. My sewing machine was calling my name, but the yard won. Perfect weather to trim these bushes and bring a little order to this chaos. 😁
What fun projects do you choose when you have an extra hour?
What a fun weekend! It’s always fantastic when you can get together with teammates that have also become incredible friends 🙂. A beautiful drawing my dad did of my Grandpa!! I love this drawing, it really reflects who my Grandpa was- at least as I saw him . I was just a kid, but I remember him as such a strong , kinda quiet, wonderful man, who always had a great story to tell!! www.tmharts.com

“Let us be grateful to people who make us happy. They are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.” ~ Marcel Proust
We need our human connections-relationships built through mutual work, interests, respect. The #writerscommunity has been that as have so many others. I am definitely better for those around me who selflessly support and lift up all of us.
I’ve been so blessed with the most treasured football family friendships. This past weekend in #Dallas were days I will remember with a warm heart. @coachdykessmu@kategdykes@geoffreypgolding I am SO happy for your success and grateful beyond words for your friendship. All the milestones shared, miles traveled (will never forget #Sydney !!!), and memories yet to be made.
Keep your friends close, they are the gardeners, the joy-bringers, the smiles we need now more than ever. #friendships#footballfamily#smu#sec#thegoodlife#humanconnection#beyou#happy
