Make the continuous effort to have a posture and lifestyle to learn and listen to people in different spaces than you. Be very careful with ways of thinking or stating phrases like “most people...” to try to prove a general point that is shaped by your experience alone. Most people who? What you mean is most people in YOUR world. Remember THE world is much bigger than that, full of people who are all made in the image of God. I’m grateful for the Special Education field that God has used to bring clarity and compassion and conviction to my spirit over these past 5 years or so. Makes me look even deeper and evaluate many other people in different spaces and places that are often unseen and commonly misunderstood. I have a lot to learn and I don’t always get it right, but I’m here for it.

What are the main side effects of benzodiazepines? Share your answers in the comments below. ⬇️
Benzodiazepines are central nervous system depressants that act by enhancing the effects of the main inhibitory neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid, or GABA. The way they do that is by binding to its receptor and letting the chloride channels open more frequently.
They have a wide variety of uses including anxiolytic effects, or to relieve anxiety; as anticonvulsants, or to manage seizure disorders; as hypnotics for insomnia; as muscle relaxants for spasticity; and to treat withdrawal syndromes.
Benzodiazepine overdose can be managed with flumazenil. This is a competitive antagonist for benzodiazepines, meaning that it binds to the same site as benzodiazepine and blocks its action. Mind that its use is controversial due to the concern for potentially causing withdrawal seizures.
When used for a long period of time, a person can develop tolerance to benzodiazepines, and their effectiveness decreases, which means that they’ll need to increase the dose to get the same effects. Chronic use also leads to dependence, which means, when the medication is discontinued, the person experiences withdrawal symptoms like insomnia, anxiety, and seizures.
