I knew I was going to spend much of my Sunday cleaning, so I downloaded Woman at Point Zero on Audible. I had no idea what to expect going in, but it was eye-opening!
It's the story of an Egyptian woman named Firdaus, whom the narrator interviews in prison on the day of her execution. Firdaus tells the story of a life of suffering and humiliation, which led her to the conclusion that all women are prostitutes in some way, it just depends on what they're selling and how much they're selling it for, as a result of systematic patriarchy and authoritarianism.
Overall it was super intense and I wouldn't recommend it to someone sensitive to rape and sexual assault, but I can see why it's considered important in feminist literature. Needless to say I was engrossed, and I finished cleaning my place!
Written in Arabic in 1975 by Egyptian novelist Nawal El Saadawi, the audible edition was read by Laura Hanna.
In other news, this portobello mushroom pizza was super yummy 🍕 and I love my new little string of buttons!
Three Rockets have struck the United States Embassy in Baghdad causing severe damage and leaving one person injured. The first rockets to penetrate the facility in years, one shell hit a dining area causing a fire to break out, the other two stuck near by. US officials, including Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo have “expressed their outrage” towards the incident. Iraqi Prime Minister Abd al-Mahdi has further condemned the attacks, promising to improve protection for the embassy. In a call to the Prime Minister, Pompeo blamed “Iran Armed Groups.” There have been numerous attacks recently on Baghdad’s “Green Zone,” where the embassies of foreign nations are located. Many suggest that this is symptomatic of the rising tensions between Iran and the United States.
What do you think?
How can the situation be resolved?
What is your opinion on the recent developments in the Middle East regarding Iran and America?

West Bank barrier - Bethlehem, Palestine
Outside Banksy’s Walled Off Hotel is the Israeli West Bank barrier wall separating Israel from Palestine’s West Bank.
After the creation of the hotel, a part of the wall became a canvas for street artists from around the world to display their art and feelings at the political problems in the region, to protest human rights and to show solidarity.
The wall, described by Israel as “a security fence”, but by Palestinians as an “apartheid”, “segregation”, “separation” or “annexation” wall, reaches as high as 8 meters and is one of the most controversial issues between the two nations.

Time waits for nobody. We are reminded constantly that the clock is always ticking and we never know when we will be out of time. Time is the only thing we can not ever get back or buy; we must spend it wisely while we are here. .
I could not tell you what I got for Christmas or my birthday when I was 15 years old but I could tell you about the memories I’ve made traveling the world with my friends and family. Those memories I will take to the grave with a smile on my face😊
It’s January 2020. The start of a new decade. Let’s spread love, truth, and create memories while we can. It’s a beautiful world out there🌏

Dropping some UNLearning for y’all: I guess The Census Bureau and the Dept. of Education must have beef. Education says Egypt is in Africa, Census Bureau says Egyptians are white. This administration refused to make changes to the 2020 census race question that Obama proposed so Egyptians are considered in a new, MENA category (Middle Eastern North African). Africans are AFRICANS so why you gotta divide Africa? Because that’s how you conquer. Divide the land, divide the people, divide the minds, divide the economy, divide the power. FYI, There is no such thing as the “Middle East”. This term and remapping the region was established by the white man. In the 1930s, when Egypt was occupied by the British, the British established the “Middle East” Command based in Cairo for its British military forces in the region. After that, the term "Middle East" was used in Europe and the U.S. with the Middle East Institute in Washington, D.C. in 1946. Let’s unlearn that there is such a thing as “The Middle East”. Unlearn that Egyptians are white. Because white people aren’t African either. P.S. there was always peace in the “Midde East” before the Europeans stepped foot on it. #IamNotWhite . ..

🇬🇧 Fun fact - tomorrow in the evening we will be boarding the bus for the following 24 hours to get to the northern part of Argentine Patagonia. ✨ Our butts hurt just thinking about it! We just hope that nothing worse can happen to us after we spent 17 hours in a smelly bus in Myanmar two years ago. We also hope the views will be worth it (at least as pretty as Wadi Rum in #Jordania ). Any advice for the bus ride that long?

Don't mind me, we just need some blue on our feed. 💦 Patagonia starts tomorrow (if we survive the bus ride) and it is like one of the biggest travel and photography dreams EVER. It feels unreal. Have you ever been? #deadsea#israel
