Treated myself to The Birds for my birthday yesterday. It’s the first time I’ve sat down and watched it, beginning to end, since I was a kid, and it’s the first time I’ve truly appreciated it as one of Hitchcock’s masterpieces. The first act is divine filmmaking, developing the characters beyond just props for the birds to attack, humanizing the suspense into something that transcends the screen like nothing any other director I can think of has been able to realize so powerfully. It felt like re-discovering his genius (because all the films left of his I haven’t seen yet are the ones I’ve been avoiding because they’re his “weaker” efforts). He inspires me, artist to artist, to create something so pure.

Houdini #66 ... This is an interesting one, and equally interesting and random how the motivation for a particular photo comes about. This piece of newspaper, from what I can tell is from Des Moines Iowa, and fell out of a wall in a house built in southern California in the early 50's that is currently going through a heavy renovation. As you can see the floor is covered in broken plaster and made for an interesting background for the tattered and worn newspaper that was being soft lit by a nearby window.
The thing that struck me the most, and most of my film friends here will appreciate, is that it happened to be the movie section of all things, with big name stars like Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, and Jack Lemon. 25 to 52 cents for a ticket. Guys and Dolls and Forbidden Planet. A piece of time, who new that would grow to $20 plus dollars and you'd be able to stream any of this to a device in your pocket. What will it be like 50 to 60 years from now? Interesting.....

Camera Operator @natew852 | “One of the most epic gigs I’ve worked on. 3.5 months of insane action. Operating cameras while wearing oxygen tanks and full firemen suit, walking through halls of fire and front row seat to some insane explosions. The last explosion was a major adrenaline rush, we had so most explosives packed into a steel beam crumpling down, you could feel the shock wave smashing into you. The Bravest (烈火·英雄) is out today on IMAX. Super proud to have worked on this movie and we thank you to all the badass crew on this gig.
Major props to the director Tony Chan @hotsummerdays and DP @leungkokei who were the best bosses you could ever work with!”

We love ya brother Lukasz - you’re our champion and tougher than a $2 dollar steak.
This will always be one of the funniest f*cking things I’ve ever seen 😂🤦🏽♂️
Despite the KO, Roman wrecks fools and completely DOMINATES in our movie.
Very proud of him acting in his very first film.

Camera/Steadicam Operator @steadi.jell | “How do you balance being an AC and doing Steadicam?”
At the moment I’m a Clapper Loader by day and Steadicam Operator by night.. (kinda). I’m very happy climbing the ladder, and really feel it has benefitted me in many ways - I’ve able to watch and learn from so many talented Operators, and sometimes given the chance to try and practise in their rigs. Which has meant I’ve felt the weight of many different builds - from a Mini to and Alexa 65.
I’ve also been able to learn how a set runs, and really appreciate the hard work that everyone puts in at each step, and the information they require for us all to achieve the shot.
I Load full time, and will do Steadicam as much as I possibly can outside of that. A lot of weekends will get filled up, or late nights will be taken.. thankfully I have an extremely understanding and supportive partner!
I’ve started now because I truly believe if I hadn’t, I wouldn’t have the necessary experience or confidence behind me when I can make the full leap. I’ve now already had the chance to Operate on some brilliant things, work with fantastic DP’s and try a big variety of shots. I have so much to learn, and I’m excited to keep doing it whilst I climb the ladder.” via @women_behind_the_camera @steadi.jell / @hannahjell 🎬🎥 [SWIPE LEFT]
