I was on the verge of cancelling this trip. The weather meant I couldn’t really do any of the things I’d planned, and I think I’m over the whole 8 hour overnight bus thing.
Despite that, I’m glad I didn’t - even though no hills were climbed, no long trails were walked, and only a handful of photos were taken. The past 2 days have been the textbook definition of “bimbling”, and the only mountains I’ve seen for longer than 5 minutes are the ones on my socks.
Just happy to be outside. 🙏🏔🌧
Not too long ago I was really bad at making fire. If you asked @livelihood.ca or @darrin_stevens they would tell you that I used to carry around a Primus blowtorch attachment in my backpack because I didn’t even want to bother. Probably the number one reason I took an interest in “bushcraft” (actually just having skills that make you more self reliant out there) was because I was horrible at making fires and wanted to get better at it. After a lot of reading, watching, and most of all practice, I take pleasure now in walking into the snowy forest near my house at -17C and creating a fire with a saw, knife and ferro rod. The more you know the less you take, and the learning curve only goes up from here. Thank you all very much for putting up with it. 🔥✌️🍻
Hey friends✌🏼I wrote a bit about the Arctic Circle Trail for @homeofmillican’s Travel Journal - it’s all about reindeer, melting ice and giving a little back to the earth. Go have a read, link in bio❤️🙏🏔
I like to think that this photo sums up my 2 weeks in Greenland - sunburnt face, hat to hide unwashed hair, and a partly surprised, partly triumphant expression at having survived the last 20km 🏔✨ #arcticcircletrail
Merry Christmas Everyone! Here’s hoping your day is filled with everything that keeps you feeling young and light at heart. ❄️🎄 .

Grateful to have this only a few hours from home✨
5am starts are worth it, am I right or am I right?
Greenland is layers and layers of mountains. ⛰❤️
There’s this sentence in the Arctic Circle Trail guidebook on Day 2 - “...and on a clear day a distant peak might be noticed - Pingu - which will dominate views in day to come”. I read it for the first time sitting on my bed at home, and couldn’t believe that I’m a few weeks I’d see this place for myself.
I read it for the second time standing on a narrow trail on a very clear day in western Greenland. And then I cried, because for the first time I really saw the distance I had to walk, and it was far af. Because I was tired and alone and angry at myself thinking I could do this.
There’s a prevailing romanticism when it comes to being outside alone - that you must be constantly enthralled by the landscape, energised, joyful. Days like these are the best, but the flip side is overwhelming emotion, loneliness, maybe boredom. And that’s okay too.
Photo from Day 6 on the #arcticcircletrail , a short day with the prettiest rivers. (Also the most mosquitos, but we’ll ignore that)

Sorry not sorry.......Friday #lambspam to end your working week! .........She is gorgeous is she not?......
Hooray it's cheese and wine night! This and other things came into my head this morning as I walked up the track. After tripping on a gum stick for a third time, I abandoned my bill paying while walking caper, put my phone in my pocket and breathed in deeply.......these crisp starts are unfolding in to the most glorious spring days......
With all but a few ewes lambed for the season, we turn our attention to shearing. I dislike handing my girls over to someone else, despite how gentle our shearer is (so silly isn't it?!). But the ewe's clear joy at having their winter jumpers removed and the feeling of the sun on their skin makes it worth it ....
So, on Monday, our wool shed will come alive with the rattle of blades and the creek of our old wool press. The smell of lanolin will fill the air. To tell the truth, I'm a bit conflicted as to whether I should work the shed this year......perhaps I should go and do something else.......what do you think? Should I stay with my girls or come back when it's all done?......🙈 Happy Friday evening....xx
