2020 is the Chinese Zodiac’s Year of the Rat. So what does that mean...? 🐭 🇨🇳🐭🇨🇳 Unlike western culture that considers rats to be dirty and disease-carrying, the Chinese admire the rat.
Here are a few of the rat’s qualities that we might see in ourselves and the things we do in this new year...the year of the rat.
Prosperity and enjoy challenges
Quick-minded and ability to gather valuables and save them for the future.
First sign of the Chinese zodiac so we might feel an energy and spirit for new endeavours
Rats are intelligent, resourceful and adaptable. So whatever challenges we face this year, should make us stronger and more capable.
Rats are good at problem-solving so challenges we face will sharpen our minds and make life more of a game.
Rats collect things and are constantly looking for new opportunities. This means we could have an enjoyable yet challenging year. We need to be mindful of staying focused and balance the fun and work life.
I apologise for not being active this past week. I do have a few explanations, first of all i have been adjusting to new hours at my work, i have been dealing with hormones, life issues and then the main thing has been my own mental health. I needed to take the time to put myself first especially when some days have been extremely hard.
Its important to understand that not every single day will be amazing and you won't always feel happy, i knew when starting this journey in would still find myself having down days/week, i think its important to share stories and feelings so we dont feel like we are alone!
This week i have really struggled with keeping my moods positive and i definitely have only managed to find the negatives in everything, ESPECIALLY MYSELF. Looking in the mirror or even eating has been hard for me without feeling any guilt (this is okay i am only human and i am currently apologising to myself stuffing my face with chilli doritos)
Not being able to wear makeup or control my skin has definitely been a trigger for me feeling down, but i took myself away from social media and concentrated on important things and i am now at the other end 🌈🔥🧜♀️🌞🌻🤗🧚♀️ If anyone has had a day or week similar to mine just remember it is completely normal to have moments like this and it is always important to surround your self with the right people and constantly remind yourseld its going to pass and that what your feeling isnt real! You are all more than enough and absolutely gorgeous human beings! Hope everyone enjoys there weekend🔥🌈🌻🌞🤗🧚♀️❤🏵

Emma doesnt know it yet but she & Hannah are mine. They are the reason I try really hard to get my me time in. Get a workout done, read some personal development and fuel my body the best way I can.
Yes, I said “try really hard”. Because let’s be honest. As a mom and with all the things we constantly have to do it is hard to find time for ourselves.
Sometimes is just easier to sleep five more minutes, eat chick fil a and watch Netflix.
So, in order to get my me-time in, I just need to prioritize and ask myself:
* Is 5 more minutes of sleep really going to make a difference in my mood for the rest of the day?
* Is eating chick fil a 3 times a week make me feel good? (P.S I have colon issues so fast foods make me feel sick sometimes)
* Is watching 3 episodes non stop of a fav tv show going to add any value to my personal growth?
Most likely no. But don’t get me wrong, I do those things. The difference is how often do I do them. 😉😏

My word of the year this year, my first ever word of the year, is "present". I find myself thinking about the future a lot - with excitement and with worry... but I get lost there. I lose myself in the "one days" and the "what ifs". I forget to be grateful and happy with where I am now, who I'm with, who I am. I think it's a very human experience but I believe the happiest and most fulfilled people are the ones who savour every minute. They understand life is what's happening right here, right now. The future is really just an abstract concept anyway; we'll never get there, it doesn't exist. So I am here, now, I'm looking cute, feeling grateful and being present. Enjoy my cute face 😽

Super happy to be back home and getting back to my routine. I love to travel, but I also love to sleep in my own bed.
Vegas is always an experience!
This year at KBIS I stayed on track with nutrition and staying active. I wasn't perfect and that's okay. Always striving for progress in my life. Previous years I've ate and drank too much. Felt like crap once I got home and was upset with myself for letting go. This year I changed my mindset. Told myself to indulge when I felt like it and to just own it. Didn't beat myself up for having 1 drink with dinner one night and strawberry shortcake the next.

So I'll admit I've been struggling lately. The trasition from an evening server job to a full time job with a decent length commute has worn me down mentally and physically. But I'm so blessed. Life never promised rhat the best things would be easy. The buckets if support I have from my family and friends has worked wonders!
And through all this I've been working on myself as a whole, honestly big shifts like this seem to be the perfect opportunity for new beginnings. When I feel too overwhelmed I realize I need to treat myself to some flow or art or fire food 😍 or lean on my loved ones a little more and at the end of the day they're happy to be there for you when life is really getting ya! Part of my new year same me game plan was to get my body moving & get my ass back to SPIN at @discoverfitnessandperformance 🤘🏼.
But some things are just so much easier said then done.
I’ve been STRUGGLING with this. And the conversation in my head has been going something like this...
You haven’t done cardio in six months. Your body will struggle. You will look stupid. What if I can’t make through a full class. They will judge you.
In the last few weeks I’ve been trying. Packing my gym clothes to bring to work. Opening the door to the gym realizing I forgot my shoes and walking out. But I’m tired. But I have a cold. Oh there’s a storm. Finding EVERY excuse not to go.
Told myself last night that Saturday is the day. Woke up this morning reading a post that said the roads were slippery. Oh maybe I shouldn’t be driving. My leggings don’t fit right. I changed clothes a few times. Walked out to find my car full of ice. Scrapping the ice felt like a workout. Oh now I’m gonna be late. Maybe I shouldn’t even go. But I quieted the voice in my head. Fuck it Sylvie. You’re going. NO MORE EXCUSES.
Did I die? Almost. I struggled in class. A tad angry at myself for waiting so long. For not moving more. My body can’t keep up like it used to. It’s ok. You showed up. Slow down if you need to. Why did I sit in front of the class now everyone can see I’m struggling. Oh no can they see my butt sweat? Fuck it. It’s you against yourself.
This is me walking out. Feeling proud that after weeks of saying I’m gonna do it. I DID IT.
You are you’re own worst critic. Are you getting in your own way? Maybe it’s time to change the conversation? Sometimes you have to root for yourself. It’s not always easier but fuck it, it’s SO WORTH IT!!!!

To reiterate how important basic economics is to me and how everything we choose to spend money on impacts the town, county, and state we live in and the services our town/county/state can provide for us, I’m going to leave this right here.
It’s a simple reminder.
Not throwing judgement on anyone.
At the end of the day, you do you.
Support who you want to support.
Spend money where you want to spend it.
I don’t expect everyone to like me and to always choose my store first.
And that’s ok.
Shopping local and spending money at tax-paying businesses will keep your money where you live. A percentage of each sale made in my store stays right here in Ste. Genevieve (2%). Another percentage stays in the county (3%). And the remaining percentage of sales tax goes to the state (4.225%). That money pays for so many things. Without sales tax revenue we cannot pave roads, pay our law enforcement, fund our public school, fund our ambulance services, etc.
It all adds up.

It’s FRIDAY & @iamhalsey dropped a new album so it’s gonna be a good day! 🙌🏻🔥 Side note: do you say gonna? gunna? going to? or some other variation? I’m such a Utah-n and say gonna. Haha! 🤪 Anyway... Blast some music & MOVE YOUR BODY for at least 15 mins today.
This workout is perfect because it can be done from home and all you need is a set of dumbbells. I’m using 10 lbs, but you can adjust the weight according to your fitness level.
Set a time for 15 mins & get through as many rounds of this circuit as you can in that amount of time. Keep rest as minimal as possible throughout the workout. You ready for this?! 👊🏻 1: 15 reps on each leg. Keep your core right and control the swing.
2: 15 reps. Keep your core right to protect your low back as you bend forward and stand back up. You will feel this in your legs & shoulders.
3: 20 reps. Core tight the entire time. Keep your elbow tucked into your sides when you sit up & back for added stability.
4: 15 reps. Keep your core tight & your chest lifted to protect your back throughout the movement.
5: 20 reps. Bend your knees to modify this movement. You can also eliminate the weight, keep your hands under your hips & scissor kick your legs if that modification feels better on your back.

Why do I sometimes try to fix things that don’t need fixing? ✨🔨 There’s no right or wrong answer, but again ANOTHER question I asked myself when I booked to see my hairstylist too change my hair color.
As soon as I walked in she was like “no honey, your natural hair is so stunning, let's keep it!” And for the first time in my life, I chose NOT to change my hair after a huge shift in my life.
And then it got me thinking how often I’ve made changes to myself in the heat of the moment, only to look back and be like “okay but why Candice 😂” haha.
So today I hope I leave you with one thing, and that's to ask yourself why you want to change something about yourself? Again, there is no right or wrong - just some gentle self-inquiry before making a choice 💇🏼♀️✨
