Temples and shrines along the Tokyu Lines. Today's feature is "Meguro Fudo", the nickname commonly used for Ryusenji Temple located between Meguro and Fudo-mae Stations.
If you take a 10 min walk from Fudo-mae station on the Meguro line, your eyes will be met with the grandeur of Meguro Fudo's front gates.
Meguro Fudo has a rich, long history that dates back to its construction in 808, during the Heian period. This is considered to be the oldest sacred site in the Kanto (east Japan) region.
This site is ranked among three of the largest in Japan, along with Kihara Fudonson in Kumamoto and Naritasan Fudoson in Chiba Prefectures.
The shogun Tokugawa Iemitsu had the Goshiki Fudo, or the "Five Fudo" with different colored "me" (eyes), set at fives sites. They include Mejiro (white), Meguro (black), Me-aka (red), Me-ao (blue), and Me-ki (Yellow), set by the shogun in an act to protect old Tokyo during the Edo period.
The grounds, while still in the city, are serene and filled with greenery. Why not come and see these historic temples on your next visit.

Have you been to Narai-Juku yet?
Narai (Narai-juku) is a picture perfect small town in Nagano Prefecture, with very much the feel of an historical film set, on the Chuo Main Line railway in the Kiso Valley area of central Japan (Chubu), 50 km north-east of Nagoya on the way to Matsumoto. (Credit @issei)
Gotokuji is a Buddhist temple in Tokyo’s Setagaya district. It has become famous due to a legend citing it as the birthplace of the maneki-neko good luck charm. There are over thousands of maneki-neko cats – from big to small. Photo @kyoko1903
