Riding back to camp after a day's activities during the Wilderness Conservation Adventure.
We had spent the day on the South shore of Black Lichen Lake in Mongolia's Khentii mountains to set up a pre-fabricated back country toilet carried in by our pack horses and to clean up beach, camp areas and fire sites.
For our special annual expedition, the Wilderness Conservation Adventure, we work with park authorities to improve visitor management and to help preserve the wilderness values of this destination deep in the largest wilderness of Asia.
After several seasons of our conservation work, the 2017 expedition was particularly rewarding for us. A big group of fellow horseback riders, all young people from Ulaanbaatar, spontaneously joined the effort.
After a picnic on the beach and a brief summer rainstorm that we waited out under the quickly erected tarp we always carry, we were now making our way back along the Eastern shore to our sheltered campsite on the Northside of the lake. The weather was clearing up and hot drinks and snacks would be ready in camp.
