Chased the clock straight up to this ancient tower at the highest point of the cemetery. Thankful for the tower master who kept it open for us past closing time. Happy Fall, friends! Looking forward to tomorrow’s wedding! #perceptionsCT#adayinthelife

DAY 18: We love the @nashvilledolphins! Hayden participates in the Future Dolphins program, which provides free swimming lessons to swimmers with disabilities, who can then move on to participate in the Junior Dolphins program, followed by the competitive Dolphins swim team.
Hayden used to be afraid to go underwater in the pool, but now he does so with ease and excitement. He also loves to take long showers after his lessons. He used to be afraid to get his hair wet in the shower, but now he sticks his head right under, pulls the curtain, and points at me to “go” wait for him in the changing area.
Tonight when we were leaving, he waved goodbye to the pool down the entire hallway. 🏊🏾♂️🐬💙💛 #DownsyndromeAwarenessMonth#DSAMwithH2019#adayinthelife#morealikethandifferent#dsdn#rockthe21#inclusion#inclusionmatters#everyonebelongs

It’s been such a busy week forgive me for not showing my face on stories! Harper had an IEP to write some new speech goals since she’s already mastered all the ones given to her for the YEAR. We just started school a month ago. Harper is able to name 19/20 nouns without a model. Harper initiates greeting to adults when she enters a room. She will wave and say “hi”. She takes turns with her peers during activities. Recently she’s been able to go to the library and participate in story time, when before there were a lot of triggers and she couldn’t handle it. She has also been working on tracing her letters, numbers, and learning how to spell, and write her name which is so incredible. Harper has grown so much lately and it’s showing in every way, besides waiting, but she’s working on that. Oh yes one more thing, Harper is also working her way out of the ABA clinic into the special needs preschool class full time. This journey with you sweet girl is beautiful. It’s a privilege watching you learn and grow.

I only have about 40 batches of cold process soap under my belt, so I'm far from an expert. But I thought it might be fun to share how I formulate my soap recipes. ⠀
I definitely have my standard, "go to" formulas...but I can't resist constant tweaking in pursuit of THE perfect bar. And I'm still trying to figure out the best formulas for different skin types, so here we go with my basic approach:⠀
■ Usually I start with an idea from a soaping facebook group or other inspiration source and then I enter ingredients into a soap calculator (online at soapcalc.net, e.g.). A calculator tells you how much lye is needed to turn your oils into soap AND how much water is needed to properly dissolve the lye. ⠀
■ When you enter your specific oils and butters in percentages into the soap calculator -- it shows overall scores for hardness, cleansing, bubbly, creamy and a whole lot of other properties. There is a wide range of acceptable numbers.⠀
■ Most soapers decide their preferred numbers through a lot of trial and error. For example, I prefer a cleansing score between 14 to 16 since I find anything higher is too harsh and drying. I also like a hardness score of 40 or higher -- but it took me a while to figure that out.⠀
■ Each oil or butter also has its own fatty acid profile with opposite results. Coconut oil is cleansing and contributes to hardness, for example, but it's low on conditioning. It's a constant balancing act to hit all the numbers and achieve the desired results. The calculations can take a while!⠀
This is just a beginning overview of formulating and doesn't even touch on colors or essential oils (which require their own calculator for safe usage.) We'll save that for another day. 😉
In the meantime, let me add that it's kinda amazing that I love soapmaking so much when I actually struggled with math and chemistry in school. I guess that's proof that if I can do this, anyone can!⠀
Let me know if you're curious to know more about formulating. OR if you are a soaper yourself...I'd love to hear how many different formulas you currently use.
Abbey Road which was released in 26 September 1969 was the last album where the Beatles did recording sessions together but wasn’t the last to be release. Let it be was released just before the bands breakup in 1970.

Liv’s Library Book Recommendations:
This Is How We Do It
by Matt Lamothe
This book, you guys, it’s just... words fail me. It’s beautiful. It follows the lives of seven real children from Italy, Japan, Iran, India, Peru, Uganda, and Russia through a day. It shows where they live, what they eat, what school is like, and their family life.
The words are simple and clear and it may have made me cry. Which is, honestly, not hard. I’m a crier. But I’m willing to bet it will give you the feels too. The last few pages are just... just... again, with the words and the failing. We are all marvelously different and so very much the same.

Happy birthday John Lennon ✨
"He was pretty rude about me sometimes, but I secretly admired him for it, and I always managed to stay in touch with him. There was no question that we weren't friends, I really loved the guy. I think that what has happened will in years to come make people realize that John was an international statesman. He often looked a loony to many people. He made enemies, but he was fantastic. He was a warm man who cared a lot and with the record Give Peace A Chance helped stop the Vietnam War. He made a lot of sense." - Paul McCartney
