With all the noise in this world... it feels good to get out into the wilderness. Where it's calm. Where I have nothing else to do but be present and appreciate the beauty around me. ❄🌲😊 #lowermainlandhikers
Fun snowy adventure in Princeton with this awesome crew! I can't think of anything better than getting cozy and warm in a cute little cabin after snowshoeing! (The whole area is well maintained by the community. If you choose to go please respect the rules and read all of the information thoroughly on chinaridgetrails.com.) What have you all been up to this long weekend?

A few days ago I got the chance to summit South Face/LaJoya on the Gran Trono Blanco, this amazing 1600 feet high granite wall standing in the middle of the pretty remote Cañón El Tajo, Baja California, Mexico. As this kind of project is usually an addition of details who deserve to be reported, here is the story of my adventure, which required a second attempt to be completed. Long story, so you'll have to read the comments 😉
Before anything, I must say that the best part of it all is that my first attempt was as enjoyable as the second, meaning I had as much fun on both occasions AND I'm as proud to have bailed on the first try than to have summited on the second.
When I first heard of the Trono, I was far from imagining how remote, huge and bold that wall was, set apart its long and wild approach through massive boulders. I was fortunate enough to be in touch with the local climbers as well as John Smallwood, the man who put up most of the routes there in the 70s and 80s. They generously shared a lot of information, which allowed me to find my way there and around. Thank god, cause it's not a walk in the park.
After spending 2 weeks in Joshua Tree climbing with @sam_watson, I got to convince her to go explore that area with me. The Gran Trono Blanco was calling me. Sam is this psyched and adventurous climber, team oriented, who always has a smile on her face. I simply love climbing with her. Plus, we have complimentary skills, which made her the perfect partner for me. She said yes: I was stoked! Through the sandy dirt roads, we almost miraculously made it to the canyon and spent 2 days getting used to the rock, slightly different than what we had just climbed in JTree. Came the time to decide wether or not we would attempt the Trono. It was quite a commitment, on many aspects. The weather: it can be VERY windy in the canyon and the weather can change drastically to snow at this time of the year (which I experienced later in the story). The route finding: it's very easy to get lost in the approach, as well as on the massive wall, for which we had partial information.
