It is with sadness we note Katherine Johnson, respected mathematician and a pioneer in science, passed away today. For last week’s #bookfacefriday we shared the children's book “A Computer Called Katherine” and we continue to honor her legacy today and every day as we support the next generation of mathematicians and scientists. Thank you for paving the way for so many, Katherine Johnson.

That’s a wrap on our February meeting! We discussed @olgatokarczuk_official Nobel prize-winning “Drive your Plow over the Bones of the Dead: a Novel.” Drawing themes from astrology, William Blake, and the classic whodunnit murder mystery, #driveyourplowoverthebonesofthedead asks us to examine the fine line between reality and fantasy, sanity and madness, justice and tradition. Plus we loved all of Janina’s names for her neighbors.
Companion or Human? 📖👥
Westworld fans—think Station Eleven meets Never Let Me Go in @katie_m_flynn’s THE COMPANIONS. This debut novel is set in an unsettling near future where the dead can be uploaded to machines and kept in service by the living.
Don’t forget to tag us with your #bookface when it releases on March 3rd! 📖👤

"What happens when you do the right thing for the wrong reason?
Alix Chamberlain is a woman who gets what she wants and has made a living, with her confidence-driven brand, showing other women how to do the same. So she is shocked when her babysitter, Emira Tuckerm is confronted while watching the Chamberlains' toddler one night, walking the aisles of their local high-end supermarket. The store's security guard, seeing a young black woman out late with a white child, accuses Emira of kidnapping two-year-old Briar. A small crowd gathers, a bystander films everything, and Emira is furious and humiliated. Alix resolves to make things right... Such A Fun Age explores the stickiness of transactional relationships, what it means to make someone "family," and the complicated reality of being a grown-up. It is a searing debut for our times."

Stella made us eggs for breakfast, Costco treated us to a sampling feast for lunch, and Marc grilled us a steak dinner with loaded mashed potatoes. It’s been a good day for food...and love. ❤️ #happyvalentinesday#bookface#bookfacefriday

“Mi hai raccontato per l’ennesima volta, ma con un tono patetico che in genere non usi, come ti hanno guastato l’infanzia i rapporti pessimi tra i tuoi genitori. Hai usato un’immagine a effetto, hai detto che tuo padre aveva messo il filo spinato intorno a tua madre e che ogni volta che vedevi un nodulo di ferro acuminato entrarle nella carne soffrivi.” 👞

“Sophie Bloom is one tough cookie. On her 42nd birthday, she finds out in a newspaper article that her handsome, successful hubby has frequented an escort service over 40 times. As if she thinks that things couldn't get worse, she discovers that her best "friend" had a fling with her Husband of the Year. Hours later, Sophie receives a call from her 19-year-old entitled daughter who is on exchange in France. Ava is in tears because she broke up with her boyfriend. She neglects to tell Sophie that she is having an affair with her married professor who is twice her age. Ava begs her mother to come to France and Sophie finds herself on the next plane headed for Paris. Sophie's life begins to come together through her experiences as well as the friends that she makes during her travels. Spoiler alert: there are a few very steamy scenes. The Unbreakables has it all - fabulous destinations as well as well-rounded characters and just the right touch of humor. The narration is top-notch. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a fast, steamy beach listen.”
