☂️🔑 • REVIEW! I’m loving the ya dystopian genre this year and this one is so relevant in the current social media explosion! It’s a world of a Social Stock Exchange where appearance is everything and influencers rule society (full synopsis in comments). It’s all about the numbers and keeping your rankings high!
☂️ @katiedelahanty is officially the loveliest author on #bookstagram ! I got in touch as I couldn’t find Keystone in the UK and I was desperate to read it! I thought she’d reply with UK publisher details so imagine my surprise when she kindly offered to send me and my book bestie @myyorkshirelitmosphere a copy of the book and a set of these gorgeous badges each! Thank you so much Katie!
I’m dying to read more about Ellie and Keystone after the revelations towards the end of the book! I love how the story alternated between the past and the present which allowed you to slowly unravel what was going on instead of just being told. It’s full of action, eerily frightening and unsettling with a great mix of characters! It’s out now in the US and available 1st March in the UK!
The Iliad is the archetypal war story. For thousands of years people have been speculating about the nature of the relationship between the poem’s hero Achilles and his beloved companion/cousin/lover Patroclus. So how gay is it really? I‘ve gay rated four versions of the Iliad, link in bio! ⚔️

Thank you so much @stmartinspress For sending me a copy of Light Changes Everything!! The colors on this cover are amazing. Book Mail is the BEST mail!! Stay tuned for a review!! If this one sounds interesting to you ... great news it’s already out and up for grabs!! Enjoy!! 💜
“I adored stepping into to the world of the Prines through tough-as-rawhide Mary Pearl. Light Changes Everything is a novel as gritty and authentic as the women of the Arizona Territory. Nancy E. Turner brings the west and its people fully to life.” –Lisa Wingate, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Before We Were Yours
Bestselling author Nancy E. Turner returns to the world of Sarah Agnes Prine through the wide-eyes of her irrepressible young niece, Mary Pearl.
It’s the summer of 1907 and the sun is scorching down on Mary Pearl in the Arizona Territory. Mary Pearl and her sister Esther take their minds off the heat by sneaking banned Jane Austen novels from Aunt Sarah Elliot’s lively bookshelf. Whispered read alouds preoccupy their nights, and reveries of getting hitched to their own Mr. Darcy à la Pride and Prejudice swirl through their day dreams.
In walks old-fashioned old-money suitor Aubrey Hanna, here to whisk seventeen year old Mary Pearl off her feet with a forbidden kiss and hasty engagement. With the promise of high society outings and a rich estate, Aubrey’s lustful courtship quickly creates petty tension among the three generations of Prine women.
As autumn approaches all too quickly, Mary Pearl’s Wheaton College acceptance counters quick marriage preparations. Days of travel by horse and by train carry her deep into a sophisticated new world of Northern girls’ schooling. Seeking friendship but finding foes, Mary Pearl not only learns how to write, read, and draw, but also how to act, dress, and be a woman.
Only 3 weeks until we’re back on the road and heading to Florida to meet Brooks and Stella!! I’m so excited. Just a Fling is up for pre-order on on all platforms now. Be sure to reserve your copy at the link in my bio. .

I’m very excited about this new release by Erik Larson, one of my favorite authors! Read about Winston Churchill, one of the most fascinating and inspirational figures in history. ‘The Splendid and the Vile’ focuses on his leadership during The Blitz of WWII. I can’t wait to dig in! See you soon booklovers!

Happy Tuesday, everyone!
I've been feeling mightily sorry for myself today. Not only have I been feeling sick for the past few days, but I woke up this morning with a head cold! 😭🤣 Ho hum! I'm really not good at being ill. I know I should be lounging around sipping Lemsip, but I never do it. However, as I'd finished the wonderful Wakenhyrst by Michelle Paver, I did get very much tucked into History of Wolves by Emily Fridlund. It's very different to the historical fiction I've been reading lately - set in contemporary Minnesota - but it's instantly addictive. Fridlund has a way of almost making you feel the surroundings she's describing, so it's very hard to put down.
I also treated myself to Amy & Isabelle by Elizabeth Strout, simply because I'm absolutely addicted to her writing! 💖
I was also very spoiled by Simon, as he's been slaving away making me a very yummy tuna nicoise, as I'd been harping on about it for days. 🤤😍 .
Have you read any books by Maria V. Snyder?
I’ve read so many! She’s such a fantastic YA fantasy and sci-fi author, I can’t wait to read more from her!
My most recent read from her is Chasing the Shadows, sequel to Navigating the Stars which I absolutely loved! I really enjoyed Maria’s fantasy work, and her sci-fi is just as good!
The Sentinels of the Galaxy series (book two being Chasing the Shadows of course) follows the story of 17-year-old Lyra Daniels, who lives a pretty interesting and complex life trying to navigate both ancient mysteries surrounding the Terracotta Warriors that span across planets, inter-space travel (and the time dilation that comes with it!), and her epic skills manipulating the Q-net. Oh, and don’t forget that little bit of romance which is essential for good reading!
Lyra is a truly likeable character with the right amount of sass, sarcasm and determination. A really enjoyable read, and a solid reminder of why we love Maria’s work so much!
Thank you @harpercollinsaustralia for sending this one my way 😊
About the book:
Year 2522. Lyra Daniels is dead.
Okay, so I only died for sixty-six seconds. But when I came back to life, I got a brand new name and a snazzy new uniform. Go me! Seriously, though, it's very important that Lyra Daniels stays dead, at least as far as my ex-friend Jarren, the murdering looter, knows.
While dying is the scariest thing that's happened to me, it morphed my worming skills. I can manipulate the Q-net like never before. But Jarren has blocked us from communicating with the rest of the galaxy and now they believe we've gone silent, like Planet Xinji (where silent really means dead). A Protector Class spaceship is coming to our rescue, but we still have to survive almost two years before they arrive - if they arrive at all. Until then, we have to figure out how to stop an unstoppable alien threat...
Do you enjoy discovering new Authors? .

Ladies and Gentlemen this quote is by my love Kai Mori from the Devil's Night series😍🖤
I loved Hideaway and Kill Switch so much but Kai Mori just holds a special place in my heart😭
Banks and Kai are couple goals and they made perfect sense together😍 And guys the chemistry between these two 🔥🔥
I've never really been into Dark Romance before but Pen Douglas changed that for me!
Her books are so good especially the Devil's Night series😍 The writing style is just perfect and so captivating🖤
If you don't know this series it's basically about 4 guys whom we all meet in the first book 'Corrupt'. As the story continues each of these guys tells his story about what happened on a certain Devil's Night for each of them in different years of their lives and how they found the love of their lives 😍 This series is dark and intense but the romance is so on point🔥
Hideaway is the second book of the series and it's such a delicious ride! Full of suspense and surprises😍 So what are you waiting for😁
On another note which Dark Romance book would you recommend?

// B O O K / R E V I E W // HOW IS IT ALMOST MARCH? I am rounding off the #MonthOfLove by reviewing a romance novel.
Well...if you're looking for a book full of hot, passionate and descriptive sex PLUS a really charming love story, The Idea of You will be the perfect read! While most books in this genre can be seen as cheesy or short on complexity, I feel like Robinne did an fantastic job of character building, with the right amount of sensuality and depth.
Where this book fell short for me was the actually believability of it and while I normally love a book with a lot of sugar and spice, this one was just too much at times. Also, I felt a bit uncomfortable with the staggering age difference. While there was a point in the book where Hayes said – “Imagine the reverse – the man was significantly older than the woman … no one would even think twice” – it still felt unsettling to me (probably because I have 2 young boys and I am not sure I would personally support a relationship like this). At the risk giving away any spoilers, I was absolutely gutted at the end of this book. While I was hoping for happily ever after, I can understand why Lee ended the book the way she did. Even though I was fighting for Solene and Hayes to make it the entire book, I was proud that Solene was more concerned about Hayes future (and his necessity to grow and learn) than her own happiness.
Day 25 - Favorite Couples
I have to start off by saying if you are a fan of contemporary books and haven't read Geekerella yet, you really should! This is definitely one of my favorite retellings and I really need to read the next companion novel 🙈. Elle and Darien definitely don't start out as couple material and don't even know who the other is through most of the book. I really loved both characters and reading about them getting closer. This was such a cute story! And as a member of many fandoms, I love seeing that in books!
Happy #NewRelease day! We’ve got new nonfiction by Erik Larson, a new novel from National Book Award winner Colum McCann, the US debut of best-selling British Sunday Times columnist Dolly Anderson, and more!
“Everyone always talks about being color blind. And I get that. I do. But maybe instead of being color blind, we should celebrate color, in all its shades. It kind of bugs me that we’re supposed to ignore our differences like we don’t see them, when seeing them doesn’t have to be a negative.” I could only stare. I didn’t want to look anywhere but at him. He was so beautiful, and I loved it when he talked to me, when he suddenly became philosophical like this. I loved it so much I didn’t want to say anything. I just wanted to wait to see if he would say more. After several long minutes of silence he looked down at me and found me staring at him. “I like your skin. I love the color of your eyes. Am I supposed to just ignore that?”
- The Law of Moses, Amy Harmon. ❤

Happy publication day to the latest addition to my favorites shelf! Minor Feelings: An Asian American Reckoning, by Cathy Park Hong is on sale now. 🔥 Thank you so much to @oneworldbooks for this gifted copy.
With an unflinching urgency and honesty, Cathy Park Hong’s essays draw from both personal stories and history to explore a variety of topics, including racial trauma, depression, friendship, art, and language. This book is not an attempt to speak for or unite Asian American-ness, but a thought-provoking reflection on uncomfortable truths. As soon as I finished this book, I wanted to re-read it immediately and highlight, cut out, and save every passage that articulated a feeling I’ve never known how to acknowledge.
I want to share the following quote because I was moved by the fierce conviction with which it encapsulated the hyper-awareness and anxiety I have felt:
“What’s harder to report is not the incident itself but the stress of its anticipation. The white reign of terror can be invisible and cumulative, chipping away at one’s worth until there’s nothing left but self-loathing.”
Thank you for reading my post, and please pick up this book!!

Adaptions. There have been some good and some down right terrible. But none have come close to beating one of the best tv show adaptations I think. Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal. What can I say? It’s sooo damn good. Everything about it is good. The acting, the props, the special effects, the score, and most importantly- the cinematography. I mean damn for a show that was on NBC, it is top notch. Mads Mikkelsen of course stole the whole show as the cunning Dr. Hannibal Lecter. The show won 23 awards in it’s few years while being on television such as: Best Network Television Series Release, Best Actor on Television, Best Actor in A Drama Series, and Best TV Makeup/ Creature FX. Sadly it only lasted for three seasons until it was axed. There have been rumors throughout the years since the show ended that Netflix will supposedly bring the show back to life but I personally haven’t found any real news regarding that. Even though the show only lasted for three seasons, Hannibal will always be one of my favorite adaptations along with one of my favorites tv shows ever made. I will praise this show forever! Go check it out! #bookstagram#bookworm#bookporn#booknerd#hannibal#thomasharris#bookish#booksbooksbooks#bookadaptations#bookcollection#bookcommunity#bookphoto#bookpile#bookcollector

More about the book in the comments •
You probably know someone like Shay Miller. She wants love but it eludes her, she wants fulfillment but her job is a dead end, she wants to belong but her life is isolated.
You probably don't know anyone like the Moore Sisters. With their unbreakable bond, a life of glamour, always getting what they desire.
Shay thinks she wants their life, but what they really want is hers.
Told through multiple narrators (Shay & the Sisters), I was drawn in from the start, wondering what actually happening, how it was going all play out. To the point where I couldn't put it down till it was over. I really enjoyed this one and buddy read it with @linmarie8889 After a while the whole thing reminded me of an episode of the Blacklist.
Woven in Moonlight ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ximena is the decoy contesa, a stand in for the last remaining Illustrian Royal. Her people lost everything with the usurper, Atoc, used an ancient relic to summon ghosts and drive the Illlustrians from La Ciudad. Her motivation now is the thirst for revenge and her rare ability to spin thread from moonlight.
Ximena gets her chance when Atoc demands the real contesa's hand in marriage, as it's her duty to go in her stead. She relishes the chance to return the aristocracy to its rightful place. It's only when she meets a warm-hearted Princesa, a thoughtful healer, and a masked vigilante that challenge her motives.
I was drawn into the story from the start, along with Ximena's plight for revenge. Everything she went through you felt and wanted more than anything to see her succeed. Yet when faced with her biggest challenge, that's when she blossomed and the true person came out. I loved it and it was such a delight to read.
So I received the PRETTIEST book mail earlier today, and I just HAVE to share it with you all!
As most of you know, The Animals at Lockwood Manor by @jane_healey_ has been one of my most anticipated reads of 2020, being a huge fan of historical fiction.
✨ My most recommended books ✨
I get a lot of questions about what my favorite book is. It is impossible for me to answer that! I’ve read so many amazing books over the past few years that I can’t just pick one favorite.
So I put together a blog post with my most recommended books (All 5 star reads!) and why I recommend them to everyone. It includes all the books in the picture ☺️ Go check it out at www.gissellereads.com (or the link on my profile)
What are some of your most recommended books?
Have you ever bought a book after hearing rave reviews and massive excitement... and then started hearing less glowing opinions almost as soon as you got it home? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I bought Pine in a flood of excitement. I'm always interested in anything Gothic and atmospheric and I'd heard SO many good things about it. Obviously I was going to love it right? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But as soon as I got it home I started seeing reviews or people who were disappointed or underwhelmed. My friend Kieran gave it a miserable two stars and I saw a number of people complaining about weak prose and a dragging pace. Meanwhile I'm sat with the receipt still sticking out of the book going 'shit what have I done?'.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I think that's the case with a lot of hyped books though. The first wave of people love it and create a huge buzz, and that creates massive expectations for the next wave who are invariably let down. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'm going to try and set aside my expectations and read the book as it is, not filtered through a load of other things I've heard of it. If you've read it I'd be really interested to know when you read it, and if you feel like the hype (or its hangover) coloured your perception! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

what have you read in February so far?! One of my favourite reads this month was MAMA HISSA’S MICE by Saud Alsanousi 😻🖤 I’ll share my review soon, but until then I’ll just say that this is a book you must read if you’re looking for a book set in the Middle East that’s about friendship, rebellion and censorship. Muslim readers or anyone familiar with the Shia-Sunni divide in Islam absolutely must read this book. If you feel strongly about censorship, read this. If you grew up in the gulf or Middle East in general then this is a book that might remind you of home🖤♥️

“What do you want?"
"Just coffee. Black - like my soul.” - Cassandra Clare . Hello lovelies I hope you’re doing okay? I love to have some time with myself in a coffee shop. Mostly taking a Chai latte and a pecan pie with a good book to read. This is really my kind of jam.☕️ Anywho I read Stargazing by Jen Wang and it’s such a beautiful comic. I fell in love with both of the characters and I felt at the end that it was too short. I wanted so much more !✨ . What is your favorite drink ? . . . .
