Miles and miles deep into the Wyoming wilderness, the joy in our faces weren't containable. The pros to carrying all your gear with you on backpacking trips? You're looking at it. The cons? Swearing. Mumbling. Soreness. Frustration. Yall get it. What's the heaviest your pack has been??

“Grotesque space beauty”
Until you’re in death valley for a bit it’s hard to understand how something can be grotesque and beautiful. Well, there you have it 🤷♂️
SY Redline Day 8 The drive to and from the trailhead today took more time than the hike itself. A hike that was only 5.3 miles total, and on paper should’ve taken me less than 2.5 hours, ended up taking almost 4 hours. Today was a small taste of what’s to come in order to accomplish this goal. Going down and then back up and then right back down the same trail to cover all of the redlines on the map was exhausting because of the substantial amount of elevation gain and having to completely break out one stretch of trail at the beginning of the day. It probably didn’t help that I just took a week off from hiking, either. I made my way slowly up the ski trail for the final ascent, with Trail Tales episode 38 - Philip Carcia reflecting on his direttissima finish - playing and it made me realize how weak I am. It also made me feel less alone. Hearing other people push themselves far beyond their own limits helped me up and over the top of North Doublehead, strap back into my snowshoes, and redescend Old Path.
I was a somebody who felt like a nobody.
Growing up, I was the “cootie girl” No one wanted to be my friend. Growing up can be hard, I spent some time at foster care and an orphanage plus my family was super poor. Junior year of HS got a little easier when my best friend @gel_roder took me in as her friend. Not many people accepted me but she did❤️ I learned to love myself over the years and my self esteem got better because I found my passion with traveling and hiking. Find your drive, it gets better❤️ Take it easy on others, you don’t know how much someone needs kindness.
With two girls with the flu, our days have been quite interesting. It's put everything on the back burner and such is life. You can't ever plan for the bumps, only learn how to best stay flexible knowing they'll come soon enough. We had our sights set on the coast to enjoy warmer weather and wait for baby, but we sure are grateful for our hosts here in Bend. They have allowed us to stretch out and have one more taste of home life before we hit the road permanently. In the meantime you'll be able to find us on the southern Oregon coast or here in Bend, or anywhere in-between.
Loved exploring this beach cove. Easy family friendly and dog friendly adventure. Go at low tide to explore the tide pools with star fish. And definitely drive up Chuckanut Drive all the way, such a gorgeous drive.
My new tent for this backpacking season is the redesigned 2020 Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2. This weekend’s trip to Big Bend was my first test of the tent and I can say that I absolutely love it. I have always enjoyed the Copper Spur since I bought my first one back in 2014 but the enhancements Big Agnes incorporated into the 2020 edition are awesome. It is the best combination of lightweight, interior size, packability, durability and functionality. Those features often compete against each other in a backpacking tent but the Cooper Spur balances them perfectly. .
To start with, the Copper Spur is very easy to set up. In a matter of minutes I completely set it up by myself on the top of Chisos Mountain’s South Rim in Big Bend NP. I love that the Copper Spur is fully free standing and the side entry makes for easy access for in and out. The materials are very light weight and string, with a good combination of rip-stop nylon and mesh. The 4 way pole set up is very stable. My night on top of the South Rim of Chisos Mountain in was extremely windy but the Copper Spur stood up perfect in the wind. .
One of the new features are the rainfly tent buckles, super easy to snap and release. A couple other new features that are great are the mezzanine storage at the foot side of the tent makes all the area inside the tent usable. Additional the awing style vestibule made more area and easier moving gear in and out of the tent. .
If you are looking for a new backpacking tent this season, you definitely need to check out the Big Agnes Cooper Spur. This classic backpack tent is the best all-round tent. Big Agnes really nailed it with this edition of Copper Spur. If you have any questions about it shoot me a DM. Picture are both from sunset and sunrise.

Just saying hi to my little desert buddy 🐪 . What do you think he’s trying to say?⠀ ⠀ ⠀
Wadi Rum is one of the wildest places I’ve ever been. I’ve never thought a place so desolate and empty could hold a sort of magic to it. It felt like the outside world didn’t exist while we were there. It was actually a bit of a shock to re-emerge back into bustling society, after spending several days with nothing but each other and the camels to talk to. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
