This one is a little bigger then most of them. 10 inch blade on this beast.
An impressive giant tree which has been found to grow to 60m (approx. 200 ft) in the wild.
Its common name is derived from Moreton Bay in Queensland. The genus Ficus consists of about 800 species distributed throughout India, parts of Asia, the Pacific islands and Australia. There are about 40 Australian species most of which are found in tropical areas.
Tree and plant identification is an important bushcraft skill enabling you to locate valuable resources such as edible or medicinal items and many different materials for practical applications such as friction fire and cordage making.
It’s quite an interesting experience when I visit a new country and do not recognise most of the trees and plants I see. It creates a disturbing feeling of being lost and disconnected from my surroundings. So when I travel to new places I find it fascinating exploring and discovering the native flora and it’s bushcraft uses.
Whilst visiting Australia I've been struck by the variety of different native trees and plants most of which are completely new to me.

Felt like spring today! So we took the opportunity to move a big ole pile of logs that we initially planned to cover with dirt and moss to make way for a proper fence and to give the nemeton a bit more space to move around. Also moved a little bit of earth and flattened the ground in the process too! It's gonna look great come spring!
Is it ever a bad time for coffee☕? The answer is obviously NOPE. Admittedly, I have a rampant addiction to coffee so much so that I once challenged a very large Samoan fellow to a wrestling match outside a small Tavern in a wee tiny town in the Catskills for the very cup of Java that was in his possession (Needless to say I was drinking more than coffee on this particular evening 😉). As he unhestatingly picked me up and simultaeously launched me roughly fifteen feet into a bunch of garbage cans that moments before were lined up neatly along the building's side; I can distinctly remember saying to myself, firstly: wtf is wrong with me? secondly, why are everyone's shoes where their heads are supposed to be? (I was actually upside down flying through the air you see🙃) and thirdly; I have to break this addiction, or surely it will be the end of me.
With all that said, I have not even come close to ending it☹
Here I'm getting my evening brew ready with my Firedragon stove. I thought I'd try lighting the fuel block with a bit of char, however it just wouldn't catch; so being in the Easternwoodlands, tinder sources are never too far away. A bit of Birch Bark shavings, some White Oak leaves and a few Spruce twigs did the trick and my addiction was sated...for now😈 #bushlife#firestarting#archaeologist#bushcraft#outdoors#outdoorlife#nature#selfie#explore#adventure#survival#survivalist#woodsman#instalike#bushcrafting#wilderness#instagood#backwoodsman#Easternwoodlands#men#conservation#hunting#2a#guns#usa#america#deerhunting#photography#photo
The early evening sun was nice! Gives me a good idea of the light which will help define where the cabin will be.

Nice delivery from #uberleben , 12oz Kuksa and large ferro rod. I’ve done my usual rod mod with a duct tape grip, and it throws a long shower of sparks. I’ve been chasing a larger Kuksa for a while and this size is perfect. Did a proper ‘christening ceremony’ and overnight soak with Brandy. #bushcraft#survival#wildernesssurvival
