The sky hadn’t done much all evening so as the official sunset time passed, I packed up my gear and got ready to head back to the car. I lingered a few minutes longer though, chatting with another photographer and watching the waves crash on the rocks below. I figured I was done taking pictures for the night and I certainly didn’t expect the sky to suddenly change into this wild display of color. But then this happened 🔥🔥🔥 It only lasted 5 minutes but I’m sure glad I was there to experience it, and not driving away in my car instead 😄 -
Sometimes it pays to wait just a little bit longer.

This beautiful guy ate a fish out of my hand! 😳 He and a few others are locals to the Northern side of Sandy Cape bay where campers do their evening fishing around sunset time. They lap the shore looking for scraps every night. They brought the kids the biggest joy and were a major highlight to our stay at the Cape. There is nothing more humbling and grounding than being so close to such a majestic wild animal. Would you dare to touch it?

Gear check! 📸⛺️ This is what I’m taking with me for a couple nights of backcountry winter camping with my dog. Gear like this is a very personal thing. It’s taken dozens of other trips to really hone in on the stuff I like to use and rely on, but I’m always learning and my needs are always evolving. I enjoy these flat lays because it’s a way to keep track of my gear as it changes year after year. For this trip, I will be carrying everything I need on my back, for about 6 miles. Temps will be in the low 10s, and highs in the mid 20s. Perfect! .
A few things to note: This is by no means ultralight camping, and I allow several luxury items like a pour over coffee maker (blue thing under the spork), and my camera gear. I’m not just out there to survive, I want to thrive, having fun and challenging myself but also being reasonably comfortable. My tent is a 3 season tent, so I use the shovel to make a snow barricade around it to help block the wind. My bag is rated to 15 degrees F, but it’s still not warm enough to be ‘cozy’... adding a thermal liner was the biggest improvement I’ve made in a while. My dog has his own sleeping bag and he carries his own food and gear (except for the bag). I get lots of questions about his bag - I repurposed one of my old bags for him, sewing it to fit his size. Maybe my daughter will get to use it in future camping trips too. My food is in the black M22 bag, and my clothes are in the red bag. What don’t you see here that you wouldn’t go camping without? .

Whitsunday Island 🌴 The 18th stop on our East Coast road trip 🚐 There are many cruises to choose from in Airlie beach, we chose the ‘Matador’ ⛵️ It was a 2 day/ 1 night cruise on a sailing boat with all food, water and hot drinks included 🍝🥪☕️ Of course you can bring your own alcohol and there’s no limit on how late you choose to stay awake 😁 This was a more luxury cruise than a lot of Whitsunday cruises on offer, it is a beautiful sailing boat with a very experienced captain and fantastic service 👌 You can choose a double or a single bed in the shared bedroom ⛵️ You don’t only visit the Whitsunday island itself you also stop at fantastic snorkeling spots on the way where you see a huge abundance of fish 🐟🐠 We booked online in advance for $230 (reduced from $350) per person 💵 .
The Nut, Tasmania. Have you visited it, or even heard of it? We hadn't, and it made us realise how we used to be so determined to fly off overseas before even considering what Australia had to offer.
Between us, we've been to New Zealand, Fiji, Samoa, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, England, Ireland, Wales, France, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, Greece, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Yet, there's still so many places in our own backyard we are yet to explore, and even just to hear of. Now is the time, more than ever, and especially after the devastating bush fires and floods to spend our travel money locally and help rebuild this wonderful country.
Australia is one big country full of contrasts and we just love discovering every bit of it 💛💚
Loving the new solar blanket that arrived today! This is the 120w solar blanket compared to an 80w solid folding panel.... check out the size difference with the blanket in blue! Best of all 40w more power and weighs 6kg less at only 4kg.
We have been using Maxray panels as we find them to be the right balance between affordability and quality.

We took the van away for the night and can I just say how good it was and how much more excited it made us all. We have 5 days until take off 🙈 which isn’t long at all! We have a busy week before we leave between finishing off the van, packing and saying goodbye to family and friends ( which I’m not looking forward too).
