Sometimes life here at pipcast isn't always sunshine and rainbows. We have drama here occasionally, and today I caught some nasty drama on camera. I had to intervene after about 20 seconds of this because it was clear Pepe wasn't going to back down on her own. Thankfully no one was hurt and no blood was drawn.
I'm sharing this video to educate fellow GP owners about conflict like this. While drama is rare among herds, it does happen. And when it does, your GPs need space to run away! That's why a big cage is so important. Imagine if I had a tiny little cage with this same situation. Baby could have been seriously hurt with no place to run.
How do you prevent conflict like this? Get a big cage, bond your GPs properly, minimize exposure to external stressors (think dogs or loud noises, for example), etc. But even if you do all of these things, fights may still happen. Females can get agitated when they come into heat, which is probably why Pepe is being such a bully today. Usually they work themselves out, but if it becomes a persistent problem you may need to separate your piggies.
By the way, excuse my dirty cage. I sweep 2x a day, but having 5 pigs means things are always poopy around here. I like to keep it real with you guys 😎 #guineapigs#guineapig#guineapigsofinsta#guineapigsofig#guineapigsofinstagram#guineapigsof_ig#guineapiglove#guineapiggy#wheek#petsarefamily#cuy#cobaya#cavylove#cavies#cavy#caviesofinstagram#caviesofinsta#meerschweinchen#marsvin#pig#piggy#piggiesofinstagram#petsarefamily
