I'm throwing out another celestial star print today. It seems perfectly fitting for the time of year! How beautiful is this dress by @nataliewynndesign? It's so statement! I love the gold star details and always a fan of a sheer arm. It just adds that extra something. Plus - ladies, nobody ever said you had to get married in an actual bridal dress 😉⭐ Hands up who's going bridal shopping this weekend?

Late night, unhemmed blurry shot, but I luuuuv it! @patternfantastique#celestialdress made from wax cotton bought on one of my London trips (2017?). Swipe for all the posing tips I’ve learned from @katiekortmanart: Touch the hair. Raise the leg. Pose with produce. ALL THREE AT ONCE. (Ok, time for bed. Better pics at @ottawa.frocktails coming up this weekend)

Ever feel like the world is stacked against you?? I so often feel like my whole life is an uphill battle— but, I keep fighting and trying and sometimes really really awesome things happen to me. So even though it gets hard I feel like I always have to remember that there will also be something good coming my way too. I am a professional optimist and find the good in every no good very bad terrible situation. So keep on looking forward and chugging along, because tomorrow is something new and maybe something good too.
PS: I am posting this dazzling star dress because I may or may not have designed a new star gown today 🤩🤩🤩

Work of fashion design students from the Otis College of Art and Design. It tells the story of a playful interaction between the elegance of the celestial and whimsy of the mortal and material.
Gown and design were inspired by the constellations of the horoscope, grouped accordingly by their respective elements, Earth, Wind, Fire, and Air.
I made my birthday dress and it’s probably the most Jennifer thing I’ve sewn for myself yet. This African wax print was given to me by my mom, and she knows that purple and teal have always been my favorite colors. The graphic print reminds me of both flowers and gametes, which are basically the same thing, so sewing it up for my 36th birthday while verging on six months pregnant seems to be the perfect thing. I used darling @patternfantastique’s #celestialdress pattern, and it’s got enough space to move and breathe for now and the foreseeable future. I’m spending the rest of the week sewing more clothes that fit and storing those that don’t... next up, leggings and a top from leopard print rayon jersey (intended as layering pieces and I probably won’t wear them both at the same time, unless it’s Halloween, or for pjs 😉) #maternitysewing#memadeeveryday#handmadewardrobe

I made an extra cropped version of the Celestial dress/ top. Most of my bottoms are high waisted and I wanted a non- tucking option. I did add 1.5 cm in length to the CF hem line as I wear a 10e cup and need a little bit of length compensation- something that doesn’t really matter in longer versions. But I wanted a level hem for this length.
I’ve given up colouring my hair the complexity of it all here with weird water striping it back- blah it got too much. I’m hoping I feel grey enough so it looks ok once it has all grown out. I may panic colour in the future no promises. This dress matches so well to my own stripes it gives me zero inclination to pretend to be younger than I am. I had no idea ageing with pride would feel like a subversive act or that a dress would facilitate that.

Finding time to sew has been massively difficult lately — between starting a new internship, taking classes online, taking on more responsibility at my full time job, and trying to just LIVE MY LIFE, it’s been hard to document what I’ve been up to. But I stopped for a few minutes to photograph some of the things I’ve made recently — this one here is the #celestialdress that I made from an old @anthropologie shower curtain! It’s modified to have a big ol’ ruffle at the bottom and is loosely based of something I saw one of my favorite fashion bloggers wearing. It’s my new favorite summer dress!
Whats my long game? Well, love has got to be the longest game of them all. Like loving a spouse, raising children, cultivating a creative life, being vulnerable, showing up, and being authentic with it all. That, my friends, is my tall order long game. I do have some LONG projects that fit right in to #miymarch19 ’s prompt #longgame . The first is a #celestialdress by @patternfantastique that was nearly complete last spring, but I was swimming around sort of aimlessly in its large skirt. For a smaller, narrower (and not necessarily easier-to-shop-for) figure, it wasn’t flowing just as organically as I’d like. So as my 80’s mom in her 40’s would do... Throw a big leather belt around it and see what happens! Well, when I finally hemmed the dress and took my mother’s advice, a miracle happened! Made from the same lightweight denim chambray are some blocks for my brother’s wedding quilt (ahem, he got married well over a year ago). This is a long game if there ever was one. Turns out when you try to do things perfectly and on schedule, God throws you a wrench. Catch! 🔧 My motto is to just get back to work on what moves and soothes me. Somehow it all falls into place in good time. 💙💙💙
My third #celestialdress and possibly my favorite. The fabric is a crisp light weight cotton from @stitchesseattle. I surprised myself choosing a floral – but this summertime weather after a long winter of grey skies brought out something in me and so here I am covered in flowers 🌸🌼🌸 (swipe for closeup) This pattern has a vintagey vibe in a floral like this, but just imagine it in a beautiful solid linen. In fact, I might make one myself! 😋 #handmadewardrobe#memademay2019

I got up early and managed to sew my #celestialdress from my mini-capsule number 1 , in embroidered border print cotton from the stash. I'm not quite sure about it, style-wise, but the flowy lightness is going to be amazing when the temps rise here! I also made some shorts for the boys, we will see if I can get a picture someday. 😂
