Chronic pain and I are old acquaintances. Scratch that. We are roommates. We’ve been living together for about 25 years. I tore my ACL in my left knee for the first time in 1995, followed by a series of injuries. My partial knee replacement is now failing at 42 years old.
My knee and how I relate to it has been one of my greatest teachers. The process has taught me about aging, grief and loss, non-attachment in the up and downs, and resilience. Don’t get me wrong. These lessons were not always welcome. I wouldn’t wish this struggle and pain on anyone. And in the journey and being challenged, I’ve found myself and my strength.
So that brings me to today. It’s a busy swim meet weekend and one that requires that I’m on my feet and serving others for several hours each day. Correction: I’m choosing to be on my feet. Guaranteed it’d be ok if I bow out of my volunteer roles due to my knee, but I need to live and move.
I woke early a bit nervous about how I’m going to walk safety on a pool deck. I scanned my body for pain and gently moved my left leg. Then my mind shifted to, “One life. ONE life.” I get to live this day.
Chronic pain is exhausting and emotional. It’s a psychological weight that’s hard to put our fingers on, but it is THERE. Life has enough discomfort already.
And still, I get to live this day. WE get to live this day. If you’re reading this, know I’m sending good vibes your way and walking with you in living. People need to stick together amidst all that life brings. We also need to stick with ourselves with self-kindness.
So here’s to taking it all in, whatever this day brings, and remembering what a gift it is to be alive.
Good from Evil
It is stunning to watch God bless Joseph and his people regardless of the circumstances or the evil. God uses the evil in our lives to bring about good when we love him and are called according to his purposes. (Romans 8:28)

We worked long and hard to produce this incredible film... and with the power of our community, silky cinematography from @92circles and the voice of Liam Ó’Maonlaí it truly sends the message home that in Ireland we should put the health of each other and greater communities first. We want what’s best for all generations and those to come. Technology is advancing at an accelerating rate, and before we know it we’re already suffering the consequences. So let’s get informed and talk to our Government.
Why not turn off our phones and strike up a conversation with someone new?

Last summer I got myself 1square meter of earth, contained in a wooden box, nestled between other raised beds, collectively know as @harlesdentowngarden. •
I cannot tell you how this little patch of soil has changed my life. It changed my outlook...it improved my #mentalhealth , it brought me closer to my #community and for the first time in my 37 (soon to be 38) years on this incredible planet, I actually grew my own food...Which sounds absurd for someone as concerned and connected to nature as I am...but that’s the reality for so many of us city dwellers raised on convenience of super markets.
This photo was taken just before my final #tomatoe harvest and the clearing out of the bed for the winter.
I’m adding this to my #visionboard because I absolutely want more of this - and everything it represents.
The second image is of my first fully formed #carrot . I pulled it out the earth this morning. As teeny tiny as it might be, it brings me immense joy and pride that I grew that from a seed - and it only fuels my fascination and awe with and of Nature.

Meet Emma, one of our new IRONWOMEN! @theamethystadventurer
What do you think doing an ironman/being part of 10ironwomen will teach you?
I am passionate about gender equality and I am happy to be part of an initiative trying to address this. I have always wanted to live in a community and in London that is a challenge as it can be soulless so I am keen to be part of this community
What is your reason for doing an Ironman?
To see if I can push myself that hard and achieve the goal, I always thought a marathon was my physical limit but having done a 70.3 last year, I now think perhaps I can go further. To show that this is achievable for a very average 5ft 2, 30 something year old woman
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself?
I love adventure and in 2018 sailed across the Atlantic in the ARC race
Who is your biggest inspo and why?
My sister who struggles with chronic migraine and back pain. When I want to give up, I just think of her and what she goes through everyday and it makes me push myself further

#FBF to the 2008 #CrossFitGames . This was 1 of 4 events across that weekend. Fun Fact, instead of points, the scoring that year was based off the lowest cumulative time to complete all 4 events. Watch #EverySecondCounts to see how the Games were back then.
This quote from @mikefoster2000 is a favorite among our founders.
Sometimes it can feel like our life is falling apart, like we’re trapped in a cycle of constant hardship and there is no way out.
We know firsthand how difficult life can be, and that some of our hardships can feel like the end of our happiness that will push us past our breaking point.
But there is a light at the end. Brokenness has the power to bring new life, new understanding, and new purpose. Everyone struggles with something, but not everybody wants to see these struggles as a force pulling us back, ready to launch us forward like an arrow from a bow into something greater.
If you are struggling, please reach out and find someone to talk to. You are not alone, and you are loved. We have a free Hope Chat available on anthemofhope.org for anyone who needs a safe place to talk.

They are valued members of our team. “I get to go to work every day with my best friend and patrol a city that is community oriented and supports law enforcement, I couldn’t be more grateful for that,” said Officer Avila. #crimefighter#january#venturapolice#k9handler#community#cityofventura
(Tallahassee, Florida): Annmarie Small is a teacher at Cornerstone Learning Community, a small private primary school in Tallahassee. The beloved teacher emigrated from Jamaica and her students and their families and fellow teachers accompanied her in celebration last week as she became a US citizen. "It's so special to me because it's not just one particular group," Small added. "Every year, I've had students and teachers and parents rooting for me." #
