iPhonography | A beautiful Cobb Irish workhorse in the field next to the Blasket Center in Dún Chaoin. When I was a Visiting Scholar here in 2012, there was a gorgeous Cobb in this field that greeted me every morning in my way into work. I loved him... great to see another of the beautiful beasts here this trip. This spectacular breed was developed by the Irish Traveller Community. And what a glorious day, warm sunshine and beautiful, moody skies, every now and then a soft rain. So happy and grateful to be here. #iphoneography#cobbhorses#irishworkhorse#travellercommunity#dunquin#dunchaoin#blasketcentre#iloveireland#irishskies

An indescribable day taking in the views on the Dingle Peninsula. The landscapes around every corner on the Slea Head Drive were breathtaking.
Getting to the best spots with Will in the pram was memorable to say the least (safe don’t worry). He laughed the whole way and we got to experience places that we’ve dreamed of for the past year.
Dunmore Head and Dun Chaoin Pier you are amazing.
Seconds before another squall hits at Dunquin Pier, Dingle Peninsula, Kerry, Ireland, August 2019. This pathway is known as the “sheep highway” as it’s used to bring sheep to and from the small ferry to The Blasket Islands. It’s also famous for idiotic motorists trying to drive down and getting stuck. I’d hoped to finally visit Great Blasket last month, but unfortunately, the weather was not good enough during our visit. Next time! The Blasket Islands, as any Irish person of a certain age will tell you, was home to Peig Sayers, a storyteller whose oral memoirs were the bane of many of studying for our Irish exams. #ireland #landscape #dinglepeninsula #kerry #irish #wildatlantitcway #photography #weather #oceans #dingle #dunquin #dunchaoin#myfeatureshoot
Around 24 ships from the Spanish Armada were wrecked along the west of Ireland coastline from Antrim to Kerry. Ireland was under English rule and Queen Elizabeth's gvmt prescribed hanging for Spanish survivors and torture and treason (hanging) for Irish attempts to help.
One ship from the Spanish Armada fleet who's captain had local knowledge managed to sail through the North gap of the blasket islands -to the left of inishtooskirt (looks like a sleeping giant) if you look out from tdún chaoin at the monument you will identify it, other ships followed and sank here in the sound, and men were captured and hung here, at tralee and at valencia Island. One ship made it back to Spain from here. The wrecks now belong to the Irish state as protectorate. This is a memorial erected in more recent years to the many who perished. #wildatlanticway#dinglepeninsula#corcadhuibhne#dunquinpier#dunchaoin#sleaheaddrive#westofireland#ireland
A watery dusk over #dunquinpier or #dunchaoin Looking out to the blasket islands
The island's were abandoned in the 50s due to a lack of population growth, mass emigration was a long term trend following the famine. On the drive here you pass and can visit original stone famine houses furnished as they were.
This week the latest Population and Migration Estimates report from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) showed the population of Ireland had increased by 64,500, bringing the overall total to almost 5 million. Mostly due to positive migration.
A throwback to 2 years ago when my brother and his girlfriend came to visit me. We drove the Dingle Peninsula... 😍
And as you can see the picture doesnt even do justice it is unreall to see the ocean slamming against the rocks😊🌊

#MelicotTravels
