The Fidelity Select Biotechnology Portfolio invests in companies engaged in the research, manufacturing and distribution of biotech and related products. The fund invests in the common stocks of these companies and normally invests at least 80 percent of its assets in the biotech sector.
As of September 25, 2019, the fund has assets totaling almost $6.75 billion invested in 240 different holdings. Some 88 percent are in the biotech sector with another 11 percent in pharmaceuticals.
Sector funds are for investors who want a portfolio holding that is concentrated among stocks within a narrow sector of the total market. Fidelity Select Biotech is no exception, though the fund does offer a degree of diversification due to the number of stocks held.

For companies, showing appreciation for employees is the driving force behind these parties. But how do employees want to be recognized?
Read on for the DOS AND DON’TS of employee holiday parties:
1. DON’T recognized based on tenure (how long someone has been working at the company)
2. DON’T give cash bonuses only, it can be counter productive if there isn’t another way to recognize their hard work
3. DON’T play favorites, maybe instead just allow co-workers to decide who gets the special recognition within the group (even customers can be part of this!)
4. DON’T give any of these gifts: company logo junk, a book on how to do better at your job, or junk food
5. DON’T create potential for mishaps, limit alcohol consumption or make ride-share arrangements, and to avoid religious discrimination on those who choose not to drink, have a training in discrimination prior to holiday season
6. DO recognize specific employees on behaviors or results, like the employee who has put in extra effort or achieved massive results
7. DO give a gift employees want
8. DO grant wishes or paying it forward, find out what’s most important to your employees (donate to their cause or offer a paid volunteer day)
9. DO show appreciation through communal experiences or thoughtful gestures, for example getting people together to volunteer or giving them a surprise day off
10. DO recognize employees throughout the year, ask yourself "what does my team need right now?" – written or verbal thank yous every once in a while are also great!

Every December, here in my country, employees expect from their boss what we call 13th-month pay. All rank and file employees regardless of their designation or employment status who have worked at least one month during the calendar year are entitled to a 13th-month pay. The 13th-month pay shall be in the amount not less than 1/12 of the total basic salary earned by the employee within the Calendar day.

Tokyo-based marketing firm Piala Inc. is giving its non-smoking employees an extra six paid leaves every year to compensate for smokers' cigarette breaks. According to reports, the perk was introduced after the non-smoking employees complained they are working extra hours. "One of our non-smoking staff put a message in the company suggestion box earlier in the year saying that smoking breaks were causing problems," said Hirotaka Matsushima, an employee of the company. He added that the CEO of the company saw the message and agreed to give non-smokers some extra time off as compensation.
