Let’s dive into culture this week! I am a firm believer that culture is the new competitive advantage in today's workplace. Why?⠀
At the end of the day, people are loyal to culture over strategy. Culture impacts an organization's ability to attract and keep talented people and let's face it, your people are your most important asset.⠀
Culture also impacts the ability to build high performance and to sustain resiliency. When tough times arise, such as economic downturn, client turnover, etc. it is the culture of a group that will fuel everyone to keep going and perservere.⠀
A dysfunctional culture will ruin a great team as well as a great strategy. When culture and strategy collide, culture wins out. In spite of the individuals who seem to survive on caffeine and adrenaline, however, studies have proven that taking the time to refuel is actually more beneficial to your success.
What happens if I don’t refuel?
Individuals who stay “on” all the time are more likely to experience depression, burnout and anxiety. When you don’t give yourself adequate time to rest and refuel, eventually your brain and your body will give out. The constant push can have detrimental health effects, negatively affect personal relationships and cause you to become disillusioned with your goals.

‘Sainsbury’s chief executive, Mike Coupe, said eliminating packaging was not easy because the material kept food safe and fresh but acknowledged that the company “urgently needed to reduce its impact on the planet”.’
. @sainsburys are exploring alternative materials such as glass, lighter-weight plastics, and the introduction of refillable packaging at scale.
‘Following analysis of its plastic footprint the retailer said the biggest problems were milk cartons, packaging on fruit and vegetables, and containers for fizzy drinks, water and fruit juice.’
To meet their plastic reduction target, they have suggested that consumers will have to alter how they shop. Some of the options being considered include single-use plastic milk bottles being replaced with refillable bottles, or a reusable jug with milk sold in a lightweight plastic pouches.
‘Sainsbury’s said it would not be able to hit the target without help from the wider industry and the general public. It is looking to collaborate with food manufacturers, packaging firms, academics and even its rivals, and will on Friday co-host a summit with the Natural Environment Research Council. It has also created an area on its website for individuals to submit ideas to help reduce plastic packaging.’
This news is brilliant and shows that businesses NOT taking action on #plastic will get left behind - the plastic reduction revolution is well under way! 🙌
