It was our first time hiking liking this in the snow. The short .5 mile nature trail at the Canyon of the Ancients Visitor Center and Museum ends at this overlook and Escalante Pueblo which used to be a compact village... Pretty cool!

One of the highlights of last weekend was getting to meet Heidi from @chasing_ghosts_wildlife in person! She ordered one of my son’s Barred Owl houses, and we met up in the Sax-Zim Bog to make the exchange.
Heidi was one of the initial 3 photographers to capture photos of the #barnowl in the Bog just the day before this! If I remember the reports correctly, it had been 101 years since a Barn Owl sighting in the Bog, and 35 years since a sighting anywhere in the county!
Sadly, only shortly before we met up for this exchange, the Barn Owl got harassed by ravens. And not long after that it was seen through the scopes and lenses of the far-off photographers to be laying limp on the ground. After some phone calls to the DNR and the Raptor Center, a small group went and retrieved it. They took off straight to the Raptor Center, but the Owl didn’t make it. After our Owl house exchange, we arrived during the time the owl was lying on the ground. One of the kind photographers offered to let us see it through his scope. It was so sad. We watched as they retrieved it and hastily left for the Raptor Center. What a day! Such a sad moment. Yet, I was glad to have been there to witness it. And my kids too. I know there’s a bunch of speculation about this situation, but can tell you from witnessing this experience, plus seeing the photos and video footage from shortly before we arrived, that the sad outcome of the Barn Owl had nothing to do with humans. It was flying around and caught a vole just shortly before the ravens went after it. But such is nature. All the humans that I witnessed there were watching quietly from the roadside, with their high powered scopes and lenses.
But now that my spiel is over. ;) Thanks, Heidi for a fun meet up! My kids enjoyed finally getting to meet you in person as much as I did!
ALL THE DRAMA. Contrary to the serene-ness of this photo it is all the drama over at HQ. If you’ve seen my stories you’ll know what I’m on about. In a nutshell our washing machine (or some pipe to do with it) has been leaking, for months. Unbeknownst to us. I thought the house was subsiding but no no just water escaping under the flooring then seeping through all over the shop and causing general housing and life chaos. We currently have ALL the heat going trying to dry the floor and avoid ripping it up however I suspect we’re just delaying the inevitable. Perhaps the time really is coming that we will do our big build and stop going on holiday so much 😬. B*llocks.
It’s that time of year! That time of year when we all head #south for some much-needed #wintersun and warmth. Personally, I begin to go pale mid-December and by March, my skin is almost grey. I look forward to at least a week closer to the equator with sun, sand and surf….and a cocktail…obviously.
Where are you heading this winter season? For those who are making the journey south in the next few months see the link in bio for my do’s and don’ts of #wintertravel . (This pic was taken 2 years ago...)

Top travel trends for 2020 include pet-friendly holidays, minimalist retreats and digital detox trips, as well as an increase in train travel. We can also expect to see more people travelling in low season and avoiding tourist hotspots in favour of lesser-known destinations.
Need some ideas for where to travel this year?

Paris, the city of love. This stems from the romance of the old city and the fact that Paris has long been in demand as a honeymoon destination. The often tight hotel rooms certainly have contributed to this. Yet you cannot speak of tightness in the apartment we stay in, since it features 160 m2 inside and 90 m2 of a garden and has 3 bedrooms, with 2 bathrooms to enjoy. Not to forget the hamman / steam shower inside!
My mom would always tell me, "when you become a mom, you'll understand." &&& boooyy was she right! A mother's love is like no other.
To each their own, but to me, being a mom comes first before anything and anyone.
Hey friends! We’re the Nomadic Neals! We call ourselves nomads because a year ago, we sold our home and 90% of our belongings to live a life of freedom! Freedom from the rat race, the hustle and bustle of life with kids (don’t worry, we kept the kids 🤣, but life is simpler now), and most of all the freedom to travel where we want when want to!
We LOVE traveling, and although we did it without a home to come back to for the last year, the fast pace of our travels left us looking for some rest and relaxation! We rented a house close to family (actually right next door to Grammy and Grampy 😂😅) to use as a home base in between our travels.
We are so excited about what’s to come in 2020, most notably Erik and I head back to Hawaii (the big island this time) for some kid free time in two weeks! We also have our first ever cruise planned, some Caribbean islands on the horizon and some extensively travels through Europe coming up in the next few months!
What are your travel plans for 2020!? Anything specific that you’re looking forward to?? Are you heading anywhere unique or dreamy this year? Let us know in the comments! Make us jealous and maybe we’ll add your travels to our plans for 2020!
