💕When we first met, we pulled into our brand new, innocent, pure relationship all the crap we hadn’t dealt with. Past breakups, old resentments, childhood traumas and deep-rooted beliefs we were blind to (at the time). We knew we loved each other but it was so hard to recognize where that love ended and our residual stuff began.
🤦🏼♀️We made lots of mistakes, said lots of things we didn’t mean and it was only when we took a step back and reflected on our own individual stuff that we began to grow and expand our life together.
💭See, it’s only when you realize that the only person responsible for how you feel and how you experience life, is YOU. So why am I sharing this personal information about the details (albeit somewhat vague) of our relationship pre-marriage? Because we can liken it to any relationship we have in our lives- INCLUDING with our kids.
Our children ARE:
✔️Our responsibility to protect and nurture
✔️Here to teach us about love, patience, personal reflection, kindness & purpose
✔️Students of life & their own personal journey through that
✔️Constantly learning and creating beliefs
✔️Mirroring our words & behaviour
✔️The personification of all that is beautiful in this world
Children are NOT:
❎Something or someone we own
❎Someone we must direct, mold or shape
❎Out to get us, push our buttons or infuriate us
❎Needing our reality checks
❎Being bad or wrong
❎Here to live out our unrealized dreams
And the same can be true of your partner. We realize that our marriages, our partnerships require work; love & attention.
✨...so do the connections with our kids ✨

Stehekin Washington Chris and I met in the middle of a forest in Washington state. We both worked at Sol Duc hot springs for the summer that year. We had the opportunity to take our family back up to Washington a couple years ago. We met our besties up there with their family- up in Stehekin Washington. It's one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to! Plus, we had our cabins right next to @stehekinpastryco , nothing better than a fresh baked pastry after a hike ( or just waking up!) I'm ready to go back! But there are so many other places I haven't seen yet that I would love to check out! Are you a return visitor or do you like new adventures? Let us know in the comments!

In the beginning of every relationship, infatuation settles in. The butterflies, long lasting phone calls, dates just to be near & in each other’s presence. The late night talks about the future, getting to know one another. The very things that created a spark which turn into flames. ——— I remember those days so vividly. Sophomore year of college when Anthony & I became friends. We had the same circle of friends so we started seeing each other more often around campus. Wasn’t love at first sight. Just two people who wanted to get to know each other on a deeper level. Seven years later & I still get excited when I’m learning new things about him. ———— I don’t ever want to become so comfortable that I stop connecting with him. This is one of the very things I try my hardest at being intentional with. Though seasons change, I’m reminded that the flame that burned in the beginning, can burn just as bright. It doesn’t have to be dimmed because we’ve been together for awhile. ————— Reconnecting & keeping the flame alive doesn’t have to result in huge changes. Will it always be easy? NO. But is it necessary to continue engaging with your significant other & putting in the work to sustain that fire? YES. Just getting back to the basics where it all started can restore what you once thought was dead.
Asking questions. Learning new things about each other. Creating memories by planning dates, even if it’s just at home. Praying for each other. Listening before assuming. Not pointing out every flaw but celebrate their strengths. Forgiving often. Being present & intentional with the time you have together. Respecting each other’s boundaries. It’s the little things that spark something within your relationship bringing back the flames. In what ways can you be more intentional & bring life back into your relationship?
