💐A second cheeky post about floriography, once again inspired by @nocomplimentstoyourmother. This manual is really detailed and informative - I especially love the section about how slight modifications to bouquets create such a difference in meaning! It's truly fascinating. 💐
Many of us are familiar with the symbolism behind certain flowers, such as red roses being a symbol of romantic love while white means purity but the roots of Floriography really are much deeper than that. Many flowers have multiple meanings depending on which floral dictionary you consult.
Victorians would often send complex messages in a little nosegay that could convey romantic intentions or even messages of disdain.
While it's certainly an interesting art to study, what's most important is that you know which flowers your person likes because that's really the most personalized message of love you can give. 😊
Happiest birthday to @christmabro who is actually a pastel goth on the inside. On this day last year Christine invited me for the first time to join her and her friends for her birthday. I’m very grateful for the friendship that has since blossomed between us. This was by far the most challenging piece I’ve ever created, with the most stunning frame I have yet to find. The bubble frame posed a curious challenge so I set chiffon on top of everything to keep it in place (or so I hope). Pink roses and alstromeria for grace, joy, and gentleness; all things Christine brings to the world and those around her. Happy birthday you sweet angel! Thanks for being such a wonderful friend and amazing person!!

GORSE - For Independence, Affection, Protection, Energy & Intelligence.
We have added a new function to the website where you can search by sentiment, making it easier to find the perfect floral talisman. So if you were looking to give an overseas traveller protection, you will find Gorse as a suggestion. You’ll also find Heather, Speedwell, Meadowsweet and Ivy but you can narrow it down from there! If not, talk to us, we are always happy to help you choose...
Gorse is best known for its associations with the sun, its bright yellow flowers a sign of vibrancy and energy. It is an intelligent light seeker, the seeds will fling as far as possible from their parents to establish themselves independently, in order to maximise their exposure to the sun. In Wales, hedges of Gorse were thought to protect the home against evil and dark fairies, who couldn’t penetrate the hedge.
Today at Floriography... Always love... Always faith, belief and action in justice and kindness... Wishing you a the sweetest of dreams tonight, remember some dreams can come true with a work... intention... and heart. Xx
"Even a man who is pure of heart and says his prayers by night,
Can become a Wolf when the Wolfbane blooms and the autumn moon is bright." Wolfsbane in Floriography symbolizes "a deadly foe is near", and as a magical herb/plant it wields the powers of protection and invisibility. It is that power, along with inspiration from the 1941 film, "The Wolf Man" that led me to create this bold, yet delicate and intricate design.
In "The Wolf Man", the mark of the beast was the Pentagram, which appeared to the Werewolf on their next victim's hand. This elaborate chest piece-style design protects the wearer with the power of the Wolf, and reminds that every human is in the end, an Animal.
Although we ‘officially’ launched last year, Flower & Fable actually began as an idea about 5 years ago. I used to make pressed flower pieces connected to Floriography which I really enjoyed. Any sort of flower faffing is good for me, but that perfect specimen, small enough for jewellery is elusive, meaning I couldn’t replicate my designs very often. Using real flowers is important to me, it feels like I’m capturing their spirit, and part of the buzz I get when I do find a flower or foliage to fit! Silver was the solution, and the more I learned, the more I fell in love with the process of making each piece.
I love how the symbolism of flowers gives the ability to speak without talking, I love the subtlety of it, but also how the hidden meanings can connect to tell a unique story. I wanted to create a collection of charms which could fit together and be gifted in a personal way.
Design wise I like to keep it simple and timeless. With understated accessories allowing the flowers to shine. My favourite is the bangle, what’s yours?

I've been dying to show you my first complete dining set! The very patient angel who commissioned these told me I could do whatever I wanted as long as half the pieces were black and half were white. It took me a few tries to match my vision, and now I want to do more! I decided to make the large dinner plates the focal point, each with a snake for good luck and a flower that traditionally represents hospitality and/or good times: sweet pea, lavender, anthurium, and peony. I hope you'll swipe through to see the amazing pics my friends/studiomates @whiskeyandbone & @wildcraftco took after they threw together a faux dining room in the studio. I'm so glad they did! I was about to ship these off to California without any photos.
Spending the morning painting one of the last panels in this pocket zine delving into the Language of Flowers. It’s such a magical project and I’m having so much fun filling up the little pages with even tinier details✨
I’m hoping to have a batch up in my Etsy this Friday🌻
