It’s apple season! 🍎🍎There are few foods that are nostalgic for me the way a fresh Macintosh apple is. That first crispy juicy tart sweet bite every September, takes me back to fond childhood memories. Macs only hold that “just picked” perfect flavour combo for a few days. After that, they’re just apples again. Good, but not as special. I plan on gorging on apples for a few weeks. Care to join me?
Just your daily reminder to put your own mask on before assisting others.
I went to emerge the other day thinking that I had appendicitis because I had the worst lower stomach ache of life and for some reason the emerge doc ran an ECG (electrocardiogram of the heart) because he had thought I said upper abdomen.
Funny things happen sometimes and that test came back a little abnormal. It was followed up by other tests and turns out i am having a funny arrhythmia, that is probably stress related! It’s one thing to think that everyday stresses are impacting your mental and emotional state and another when it actually starts to impact you physically.
It’s allowed me the opportunity to stop for one sec and re-establish personal limits and boundaries and remember that taking care of myself is of critical importance for my husband, my kids and most importantly my own well being!
No worries, I’m all good!
Just my body reminding me that even though it’s busy season - sometimes I need to slow down and smell the roses. 🌹

Playing with labels, and all I want to do is open these and grab a spoon... Pear & Ginger Jam now available!

We were pleasantly surprised to learn that we have a pear tree in our back yard. The branches on the sunny side where a lot of the fruit grows mostly reach out over the fence so I'm sure the people driving down the busy road behind us were wondering what in the world I was doing hanging over the fence yesterday while trying to reach them all. 🤷♀️🍐 James kept calling me out of his window if he couldn't see me anymore. I think he was worried that I would fall out of the tree. 😅 I don't think most of them are ripe yet, but the squirrels have been eating them (and leaving half eaten pears all over the yard...) so I wanted to get some before they steal them all!
Please send me your best pear recipes!

Now available! Homemade Pear & Ginger Jam, prepared in an entirely gluten-free kitchen.
This jam is a special batch with backyard grown pears, truly local fruit in this one!
No pesticides, just delicious pears and ginger, turned into even more delicious jam. One of my favourite jams to make as the smell of the ginger is intoxicating while it simmers with the pears to perfection. The final product is a hint of the spice from the ginger perfectly balancing the sweetness of the pears. Try this mixed in with some Greek yogurt and a bit of granola for breakfast (or maybe dessert?)! Ingredients are pears, ginger, sugar and pectin. Because simple ingredients make things delicious.

When Tim from @virgil_greenhouses told us he would start growing ranunculus 365 days a year, it sounded too good to be true. But here they are. Every week, for sale at the @ontarioflowergrowers. And BOY are we grateful.

Hello! The word home has come to mind for me this morning! Where do you call home?
Hi! It’s been a spell since I said hello and introduced myself. I’m Melissa, an Organic Master Gardener and the founder and owner of the Good Seed here in downtown Toronto. The gardening season is getting underway and I couldn’t be more excited to share my knowledge with you! At the Good Seed we are passionate about creating vibrant edible gardens. Every space has potential to grow incredible organic food and I am so eager to be able to help you
design, plant and harvest all kinds of delicious fruits and vegetables. When I’m not in the garden you can find me hiking local trails with my husband and four kiddos, including this sweet guy who is very shy and smiley at almost five months old. I love chatting about gardens, so please don’t hesitate to send me a DM! 🌿Melissa
