#gut#lowfodmapdiet#healthyfood#ibsdiet#alessiofasano#nutricaofuncional

Eating healthy should be a lot easier than it actually is. We should be able to trust the brands that we’re buying into, especially when labeled ‘natural’ or ‘healthy’. But what if we told you that you shouldn’t believe everything that’s labeled on the front of a product?
The food industry can be quite manipulative at the best of times. So how do we look out for the ‘not so healthy’ versions, of what we consider to be ‘healthy foods’?
Swipe right to see what healthy foods could be causing you trouble...

Episode 40 - Opening up to What’s Next and helping others Shine with Philip Wilkerson
Join me this week as I have the pleasure of talking with Philip Wilkerson, the host of the Positive Philter podcast about being joyful, appreciative and open to what’s next.
Rosacea, waves of nausea, heavy periods, fatigue. 👎
These were some of my symptoms a few years ago after I stopped nursing my son. Any nursing mom (or any mom in general) can tell you that it's so easy to put yourself on the back-burner, and for me it clearly showed in how I was feeling.
First thing I did? A stool test to assess GI functioning. Because, as you'll see, GI functioning is EVERYTHING.
What were my results?
▪️H.pylori infection with virulence factors: H. pylori can cause issues with stomach acid, making the lining of the stomach more prone to ulcers and also increasing the risk of stomach cancer. This is where the nausea was coming from. There is also an association between H. pylori and rosacea. More on H.pylori in an upcoming post
▪️High beta-glucaronidase, meaning I was recycling my estrogen which was why I was having heavy periods.
▪️Dysbiosis, or imbalance in bacteria, including overgrowth of pathogenic bacteria
▪️High calprotectin- gold standard marker of inflammation in the GI
▪️Low bacterial diversity
▪️Sub-optimal elastase, meaning I wasn't efficiently breaking down my food/absorbing nutrients ▪️High secretary IgA, the primary immune marker in the GI (and respiratory) track, indicating my body was responding properly to the overgrowth of "bad" bugs
The H.pylori infection was likely influencing the elastase level which likely influenced the dysbioisis and bacterial diversity, which influenced the beta-glucaronidase and secretory IgA and finally the calprotectin. There may be a couple other connection scenarios, too. Shit is cray, literally.
Did you know you could obtain all of that information from pooping in a box?
Many people put themselves on the back burner for so long they have multiple issues and don't know where to start. Always look at diet, sleep, stress and hydration- make sure those are in line, and then, for about 90% of my patients, we start with the GUT. 🐛 .
#Food plays a fundamental role for our #health in different ways: some food components are direct source for our #metabolism , others have a regulatory role and others are used by the #microbiome in our #gut .
All living organisms require a large number of compounds to grow. #Plants , which cannot move, capture preys and run from predators, are characterized by a rich #chemical composition. They produce a lot of so-called “secondary metabolites”, which have mainly a #defense purpose. Some of the best known secondary metabolites produced by plants and used by human (not necessary for health purpose) are: #cocaine , #codeine , #caffeine , #nicotine , and #polyphenols . Animals need to eat plants also for other compounds, they cannot produce by themselves, such as #ascorbicacid and omega-3 and 6.
A typical new year’s resolution is to start a #diet . What people usually do is to open their browser and @google a diet. Usually people look for a miraculous diet, like “loose 10 kg in 1 months”. The truth is that all these diets are based on the same principle: cut the #calories you ingest. The principle per se is not wrong, you loose #weight if you eat fewer calories than you burn.
The big problem is HOW these diets make you cut the calories. Most of them make you cut completely #carbs , or prevent you from eating #fats .
In the short run, they work. You do loose weight. But, not in a healthy way and you probably will regain all the weight you lost.
In 2016 Thaiss and collaboratots published on @nature.research a paper in which they studied the microbiome of #obese people before and after a diet. They found that there is a particular intestinal microbiome signature that contributes to weight regain after a diet.
If you plan to start a diet, please, don’t do it by your own, but seek help from a professional figure. And of you want to look for information online, please visit reliable websites, like the ones of @who and British Nutrition Foundation. #scicomm#eathealthy#foodscience

MANCHMAL ABER NUR MANCHMAL SIND DIE PALETTEN AUCH LEER DIE WIR AUSFAHREN 🤪
SO excited about these new supplements from @megafood, including their two new prenatals - Baby and Me 2 and a prenatal probiotic (!!!) MegaFlora for Baby & Me. And no... I'm not pregnant 😂 #sponsored . I'm most excited about the BloodBuilder, which is proven to increase iron levels without any unpleasant side effects (💩) and can actually increase red blood cell production. As a woman, I am ALL about the blood and iron building!
I've been taking MegaFood supplements for years, because they're derived from whole foods, making them more effective AND gentler on your system and tum. I took their prenatal when I was pregnant, and this new formulation includes all the optimal nutritional support, including methylated folate, BUT in just 2 pills. Can't get over a prenatal probiotic, either, and it has ginger! Expectant mama love, big time.
I got it all at @thrivemarket because a) SO affordable b) it all comes in zero-waste packaging and c) I can order all my other goodies at the same time. From the couch. In my yoga pants and sports bra. I mean husband's sweatpants and no bra. Whatever, same thing.
Click my link in bio to check out these new beauties from Megafood and make sure you grab a FREE 30-day trial to Thrive Market while you're at it. They get me. #prenatal#pregnancy#pregnancynutrition#probiotics#gut#microbiome#guthealth

I made my own pesto for the first time since I was diagnosed because I missed eating pesto too much. And it’s actually really simple to make it fodmap proof! Just use garlic oil instead of normal garlic. Tastes amazing! 🌱

“Microbiome: Gut bugs and you” @ted@tedx_official . I really advice you to watch this video on youtube “ . I posted this part because I personally found it interesting . So here, what you are seeing is a part of a study📖 . When they introduce artificial sweetener to a mice , the microbiome changed ! And the mice ended up to have diabetes and to gain weight. #gutbrainaxis .
A lot of you reached out to ask about alternative sources of polyphenols to red wine- maybe eating grapes is just as good? Actually yes- BETTER- and many other plants too. Especially spices! •
Polyphenols are antioxidants found in plants🌱. All polyphenols are characterised by the presence in their structure of one or several phenolic groups, capable of reducing reactive oxygen species and various organic substrates and minerals. These redox properties explain the considerable interest in their role in the prevention of several major chronic diseases associated with oxidative stress, such as cancers. •
What are the top 20 highest ranking polyphenols?
Cloves- 15 188
Peppermint, dried- 11 960
Star anise- 5460
Cocoa powder- 3448
Mexican oregano, dried- 2319
Celery seed- 2094
Black chokeberry- 1756
Dark chocolate - 1664
Flaxseed meal- 1528
Black elderberry- 1359
Common sage, dried- 1207
Rosemary, dried- 1018
Spearmint, dried- 956
Common thyme, dried- 878
Lowbush blueberry- 836
Black olive- 569
Highbush blueberry- 560
Sounds like I’m having berries + dark unprocessed unsweetened chocolate every night.

An article by @hannycoates in @Vogue encourages you to bolster your gut health by moving your body. It states that, according to research, regular exercise can increase the diversity of microbes found in your gut. We couldn’t agree with this more!
In our curiosity a few months ago we discussed a study that found whole-body vibrations can bring benefits to our microbiome by helping our inflammatory immune response. This may be useful as there are a number of common conditions associated with an imbalance in this response. …Better get moving!

When your job literally involves talking sh*t 💩
You might find it a strange (or gross) topic of conversation, but in fact your bowel movements are a great indicator of health!
Our digestive tract is the main course of elimination for food waste, toxins, excess hormones, etc. Anything that our body no longer requires (or never really wanted in the first place) should ideally be eliminated from the body ( 💩💩💩 ) in an efficient manner (within reason 😬) so that they’re not being reabsorbed into the bloodstream. Inefficient bowels, while incredibly common, is not normal, and can result in all sorts of complaints such as congested skin, headaches, fatigue, stomach aches, and hormonal problems.
Basically, daily elimination is key 💩🙌. In order to keep this process efficient, I recommend making sure you’re getting enough fibre, water and magnesium (ideally in the citrate form). Fibre rich foods include: vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, grains, legumes and pulses. Get those plants in! 🌱🥬🥑🥦🥕🍓🍌
Your hypothalamus is wicked smart. One such function is to detect the presence of food in the stomach. After food enters the stomach, the hypothalamus initiates the process of hydrochloric acid production. The stomach needs this acidic fluid in order to set up the pepsinogen/pepsin conversion required for protein digestion. .

Food sensitivities may be a result of repetitive eating or lack of diversity in the diet. They are influenced by antibiotics, steroids, and possibly other medications. Cross-reactivity with environmental allergens (dust, pollen, mold, etc.) can also exacerbate food sensitivities. #alletess

How important is your gut microbiome? It affects everything! When we don’t have the right balance of gut bacteria it can literally make us fat. The average American eats a diet high in added sugar and carbohydrates which leads to a higher population of microbes that produce toxins that interrupt our ability to use energy efficiently leading to fat storage. Would you like to know how you can create the proper balance of gut bacteria? Follow my 13 week program. Feel free to message me for questions. #microbiome#gut#inform#NSP#weightloss#metabolicbalance#shireyspfc

🌱 drinking coffee does not fix your problem with fatigue. 🌱 allergy pills do not eliminate the source of your allergies. 🌱 applying zit cream does not stop you from having acne. 🌱 avoiding gluten does not heal your gluten intolerance (although it does help)
🌱 applying lotion to eczema does not address why you are getting it in the first place. 🌱 taking a sleeping pill does not get rid of your insomnia. 🌱 taking ibuprofen for chronic pain and inflammation does not address why you are hurting in the first place. 🌱 taking pain meds for your cramps and mood swings does not address your hormone imbalance.
What does? Getting to the root cause, which in most cases is blood sugar imbalance, inflammation, and/or gut health.
The triplex combo addresses all 3 of these issues with all natural, synthetic free, non-gmo, plant based ingredients. Comment “interested” if you want more info on the triplex combo! 🧡

Hello! I’m Savannah and I have created this account to help me heal. I am 21 and have had severe digestive problems for most of my life. It started with constant stomach aches and separation anxiety as a child. At 14 I went through many stressful events that also included a nasty bout of food poisoning. After the food poisoning my digestive system struggled more and more as well as my mental health. Separation anxiety turned to generalized and on to severe with panic disorder and multiple phobias. I started to experience nausea after everything I ate. As time went on I began to suffer with every unpleasant digestive symptom you can think of. I won’t list all my diagnoses because there are many, but I have many days that I am completely debilitated by my health.
I created this account to help me truly heal, and share my knowledge and experiences.
I have so much love and respect for everyone in general but especially those who know what it’s like to struggle with their health.
So follow me if you love all things gut healing and need a positive space to learn!💛

So you want to adopt a plant-based diet... here are just a few tips. (My next post will be about doing it from an environmentally friendly perspective)...
1. Try to get half a plate of veggies at lunch and dinner...
2. The greater the variety of vegetables you consume the more benefits conferred. A diverse diet will lead to a healthy gut microbiome which has wide spread benefits to health. So when you go shopping don’t always get the same veggies.
4. Love your herbs and spices. Not just for the flavours but they are super dense in nutrition.
5. Happily indulge in healthy fats such as those found in olive oil, nuts, seeds and avocados.
6. Increase beans and lentils in your diet. These are associated with longevity.
7. Instead of always having rice, pasta or potatoes, enjoy sweet potatoes, pumpkin, swede, butternut squash.
8. Make friends with cress and other sprouted foods.
9. Check out the frozen fruit and veg aisles. Freshly picked and often more nutritious and usually more practical.
10. Go for the wholegrains not the refined grains.
My diet is a flexitarian one- lots of plant foods but with some meat and dairy. As getting all the nutrients you need - although entirely possible- can be challenging. That’s why I offer my patients a Vegan profile (blood test for Omega 3, minerals including zinc, selenium, magnesium, calcium, iron and iodine and vitamin B12 in the active form) to see if they fall short in any nutrients so we can tackle it with dietary measures and supplements, where relevant.

Yes!

EATS || CONGEE & TOPPINGS
Congee (Chinese rice porridge) is the ultimate low-maintenance comfort food. 🙌🏿 For this, I sautéed finely chopped onion, grated fresh ginger and turmeric in a little oil, in a large pan, until the onion was softened and starting to go golden at the edges. Then added short grain brown rice, a stock cube and basically too much water and simmered until the rice fully breaks down and creates a porridge-like consistency. You can control the consistency by letting more liquid simmer off or adding more water/stock. Season with soy sauce and then add whatever toppings you like. I like a mixture of fresh and cooked. Here I’ve gone for crispy salmon skin, spring onion, a 6-minute egg, salmon roe, nori and chilli. Always chilli.🌶️

If we believe that all of our thoughts are true, we tumble down the rabbit hole of anxiety very quickly. Likewise, if we run with the most obvious interpretation of feelings, we stumble into confusion and sometimes despair. We often hear statements like “trust your gut” and “follow your feelings,” and it’s true: we need to trust our gut and listen very closely to our feelings. The challenge arises when we realize that, for many people, “gut” is closely aligned with fear and “feelings” aren’t always telling you what you assume they’re telling you. •
Let’s take a classic example from someone struggling with relationship anxiety. You’re moving along well in your loving relationship when suddenly you jolt awake at 3am with a horrific pit in your stomach. You sense that something is wrong, and the first thought that comes to your mind is, “I don’t love my partner.” Now, the feeling of dread and terror is correct (you can’t argue with feelings) but the interpretation of the feeling is very likely incorrect, and the incorrect interpretation then sends a shockwave of anxiety through your system, which then further entrenches the mis-interpretation that you’re with the wrong partner. And thus begins the hamster wheel of relationship anxiety. (By the way, if you suffer from relationship anxiety and this is not how it started for you watch how your ego is going to try to poke holes in this example to “prove” that you’re not actually suffering from relationship anxiety but that you’re really, truly with the wrong partner. Ego is masterful at gathering evidence to prove that you’re the exception.) •
I could offer countless examples of how we run with first-layer interpretations of natural, core feelings, which then causes us to spin ourselves into an anxious loop. The more we understand how fear works, the more we can name it accurately when it arises. •
For more on relationship anxiety, see my course Break Free From Relationship Anxiety in the bio and Highlights. For more on thoughts and feelings, see my book The Wisdom of Anxiety.
