In such a “reactive” world, I strive to keep my household focused on “proactive” wellness 🌱
We make choices to fuel our bodies properly, not just once disease, sickness, or illness strikes. Wholesome nutrition choices and products that are safe to put on our skin is key to stay ahead and take preventative measures 🤓
We also make it a priority to keep our bodies in proper alignment with monthly adjustments at the chiropractor. Both of my kids had their first adjustment within their first few weeks of life, and I credit their good health to proper alignment. We are so grateful for @brentfamilychiro and their focus on holistic wellness, too 👩🏻⚕️
If you have never been to a chiropractor before or haven’t been in awhile; I HIGHLY recommend looking into it 🦴
This is the Lipid Panel of a patient who is on 40mg of Crestor (Statin) for "Cholesterol Control". His doctor told him, "Your Cholesterol is perfect!" The patient complains of Memory Issues, Brain Fog, Concentration Issues, Mood Swings, Low sex drive, and blood sugar problems. 🤔
Can anyone tell me WHY this patient might be feeling ALL of the above??!? It is shocking how conventional doctors deem it acceptable "care" if they simply write you a prescription and let you on your way. 😕
MSL DAILY MEDICAL NEWS - WHO RAISES GLOBAL VIRUS RISK TO MAXIMUM LEVEL!! “The World Health Organization on Friday raised its global risk assessment of the new coronavirus to its highest level after the epidemic spread to sub-Saharan Africa and financial markets slumped.
The virus has proliferated around the globe over the past week, emerging on every continent except Antarctica, prompting many governments and businesses to try to stop people from travelling or gathering in crowded places.
It has killed more than 2,800 people and infected over 84,000 worldwide.
But it is its rapid spread to new zones that has authorities concerned—in the past 24 hours, it has affected nine new countries.” #coronavirus

It’s official! I am a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach 🎓🎉
After everything I’ve done and learned to heal myself I’m so incredibly excited for this new chapter. Behavior modification with the support of a health coach allows people to create healthy habits that work for them. It’s not about fad diets and trends, it’s about looking at the whole person and creating a life of health and vitality on their own terms.
It’s no secret that our health care and food systems are broken. Functional medicine, and the approach of health coaches as part of an integrated team, create stronger outcomes for patients. The FM root cause approach to chronic illness changes lives and it’s an exciting time to be a part of this movement in healthcare.
In a recent article, @instituteforfxmed wrote “many Functional Medicine clinicians are transitioning to team-based care with the integration of health coaches. One area in which health coaches are effecting change is in dietary/nutritional lifestyle modification. . . Health and wellness coaching, and specifically nutritional coaching, is a promising strategy and potentially a highly effective approach for weight loss and healthy behavior change.”
As I continue to grow in this new role, how can I help you? Do you have any questions about working with a functional medicine practitioner or health coach?

Tonight the UCLA Women’s Basketball Program @uclawbb recognizes Fola May, MD, PhD, MPhil, for exemplifying their values of being “uncommon” and going above and beyond.
We know she meets these criteria through extracurriculars like her participation in the AGA FORWARD program and as a GI patient advocate on Capitol Hill.
Her unconventional career path is also testament to her ability to color outside the lines while creating a masterpiece.
But she noticed a void along her career path that she couldn’t fill on her own: limited access to diverse research leaders in the field who can serve as her mentors, supporters and advocators. “I am the only African-American GI in a faculty of about 60 members at my academic health center. There is one Hispanic female. The other divisions and departments do not look much different. We serve a massive, diverse urban center. I don't understand it, and I feel strongly that we can do better.” Be sure to follow this uncommon @UCLAhealth Bruin on Instagram and Twitter @drfolamay for updates during Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, another topic of which she’s beyond passionate.

This is our anesthetist Rima Alghoul at our hospital in Gaza taking care of 11 year old Salwa who lost 9 members of her family and injured her foot when her home was hit by an Israeli airstrike.
Due the severity of her wound, doctors are using a vacuum dressing to treat it, a type of therapy that uses a suction dressing to remove excess exudation and promote healing. Salwa came to hospital with open fractures on her right foot and soft tissue injuries. Our surgeon Helene explains she'll need “skin grafting to restore the soft tissues of her foot. Bone and tissue sampling also showed that Salwa has multi-resistant bacteria. Wounds like this, caused by violent trauma, are very prone to infections as the skin is ripped apart and the flesh is open, allowing bacteria to get in. But the presence of multi-resistant bacteria implies that we need very specific antibiotics and it means for Salwa (and) a longer treatment in an isolation room.”
“Salwa has a long process ahead but she will recover the functionality of her foot”, Helene reassures.
Our team also gave Salwa psychological support to help her cope with the loss of her family. “Some days are better than others for her,” explains Rania, our counsellor providing psychosocial support in the hospital. “Some days Salwa just bursts into tears and keeps asking to see her family. Other days, she’s more reactive; she smiles and chats with me.”
Follow the link to hear more about her story and learn about the situation in Gaza.

Are face masks becoming the new fashion accessory?
COVID-19, or formerly 2019-nCov, is getting a lot of media attention and causing quite a bit of anxiety. (Even though still more people are dying from the flu every day, just saying.)
I recently travelled to and from Europe and saw several people wearing a face mask on the plane and at the airport.
Will a face mask protect you from catching COVID-19?
First of all, a regular face mask, like the ones that are being sold at most stores does NOT prevent virus particles from entering your mouth and nose.
You would need to wear a fitted N95 respirator mask (like in my photo). Have you ever tried wearing those for more than 10 minutes? They are quite uncomfortable, I personally would not be able to wear it for a 9 hour plane trip.
The mask might help protect you by preventing you from touching your face, but in my opinion, there are more important measures to help prevent disease spread.
The Ottawa Hospital has been updating us on their efforts to prepare for possible COVID-19 cases. At this time they say the risk remains low.
This is what they are currently recommending as precautionary measures:
•Practice regular hand hygiene.
•Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth unless you have just cleaned your hands.
•Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your arm, not your hand; dispose of tissue in a waste bin and clean your hands after.
•Stay home if you are sick.
•Avoid visiting people in hospitals or long-term care centres if you are sick.
•Get your flu shot.
What are your thoughts on this topic?

Never been so happy to be home ❤️ It’s been the worst week of our lives and I’ve completely forgotten what normality feels like but to bring my little darling home & finally on the mend feels so good. I will never ever take for granted a single day we are healthy.
Thank you to everyone for the lovely messages & well wishes. And an even bigger thank you to every single person who looked after my little girl in hospital.
Our paths may have crossed for a short while but I will carry the gratitude for a lifetime ❤️
