This morning I joined the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver to learn more about Short Term Accommodation’s, primarily Airbnb and what the city of Vancouver has planned moving forward! I am so grateful to have attended the event as it hosted speakers on behalf of the city, Airbnb, numerous tenancy Lawyers as well as a strata property manager. Each representative brought a different perspective allowing for a lively but also very needed discussion!
There is no surprise that by allowing short term rentals and accommodations it could drastically boost Vancouver’s tourism industry & increase the number of properties bought for investment. Currently, short term rentals like Airbnb require owners to hold a business license and comply with all strata unit bylaws. It is evident that Short term rentals tend to get a bad reputation due to causing nuisance and discomfort for other residents but what if there was a way to reduce that?
However, we must remember that an increase in short term rentals would also deter people away from renting out properties to tenants in need of long term accommodations. The discussion revolving around short term rentals still has a long way to go but I think it is important to talk about!
What is your view on this debate do you think it is a positive or a negative?
If you wish to learn more about short term accommodations or investment properties feel free to reach out and I’d be happy to tell you more!

These crazy-weird-beautiful Arbutus trees are one of the strangest things about Victoria. Here in Uplands Park, you can see many examples of them in their natural milieu. #camguerilla

Norway's Ole Einar Bjørndalen, the world's greatest biathlete, was expected to earn his tenth Olympic medal, possibly another gold. But along with other Olympic favourites, he was kept off the podium. OIe stated that, "it was not because of conditions, it just wasn't my day..." #OlympicMemories
A freighter enters the Juan de Fuca Strait against the backdrop of the Olympic Peninsula. A recent trip to Victoria provided a wealth of moody west coast winter motifs.
Despite that fact that airports allow me to access the world from practically anywhere, there is still something about port cities that evoke in me a stronger sense of wanderlust.

Just your friendly local hummingbird stopping by to say hello.
This is an Anna's Hummingbird. Males have iridescent head feathers that shift from bronze to ruby red to brilliant purple depending on the viewing angle. This bird is male. Males also have bright green feathers on their backs and wings, which can appear blue at different angles. The jewel-like colors that cover hummingbirds are due to the nanostructures of the feathers which absorb and reflect light at different wavelengths. By contrast, females appear relatively drab with little or no bright coloration; instead, females sport a cloak of olive green, grey, and white feathers, allowing them to better hide from predators when nesting and caring for offspring.
