Like two siblings who have similar features, mold and mildew have a few matching characteristics: Both are keen on moist, warm areas; each grow on a multitude of surfaces, from food to your shower, and of course, they are both two types of fungi that no homeowner likes to see in his or her home.
The differences? Mildew can be identified as a patch of gray or white fungus that is lying on the surface of a moist area. Mildew is easily treated with a homemade cleaner and a scrubbing brush.
Mold, on the other hand, can be black or green and is often the result of a much larger infestation. This type of fungus can appear almost "fuzzy" — especially when it is found on food — or even slimy in nature.
Yesterday I showed our basement progress in stories. In this photo I’m standing in that same spot 2 1/2 years ago with my 3 babies (one still cooking😉). It’s amazing to look back on all we’ve accomplished & built as a family in that short time!

Back before there was Facebook Marketplace, my favorite way to scout secondhand furniture was the Wild West of Craigslist. That’s where I ran across my buffet for my dining room. I wish I had the listing photo but guys it. was. ROUGH. It had peeling veneer, orange tone wood, and a weird smell I still haven’t been able to pin down 🤨 BUT the price was right ($70) 🙌🏻 and I was smitten with its classic lines and hardware. After A LOT of repair work, airing it out, and a few coats of Annie Sloan’s ‘old white’ chalk paint, my buffet got a second life. And she’s still sittin’ pretty. 💗
Book Spotlight: The Magnolia Story by Chip Gains, Joanna Gaines and Mark Dagostino
The Magnolia Story is the first book from Chip and Joanna, offering their fans a detailed look at their life together. From the very first renovation project they ever tackled together, to the project that nearly cost them everything; from the childhood memories that shaped them, to the twists and turns that led them to the life they share on the farm today.
They both attended Baylor University in Waco. However, their paths did not cross until Chip checked his car into the local Firestone tire shop where Joanna worked behind the counter. Even back then Chip was a serial entrepreneur who, among other things, ran a lawn care company, sold fireworks, and flipped houses. Soon they were married and living in their first fixer upper. Four children and countless renovations later, Joanna garnered the attention of a television producer who noticed her work on a blog one day.
In The Magnolia Story fans will finally get to join the Gaines behind the scenes.
Real talk: I’m blessed to be confident enough that a busy season will come so I can fully enjoy the slow season. Currently suffering from a mystery virus that acts like strep. Enjoying lots of quiet time and hot tea. Trying to soak it all in because busy season is right around the corner! Literallly..it starts next week for us 😳 So much for things heating up in the spring. .

2020 Year of the 🐀:
“The Rat is the first of all zodiac animals. According to one myth, the Jade Emperor said the order would be decided by the order in which they arrived to his party. The Rat tricked the Ox into giving him a ride. Then, just as they arrived at the finish line, Rat jumped down and landed ahead of Ox, becoming first.
The Rat is also associated with the Earthly Branch and the midnight hours. In the terms of yin and yang, the Rat is yang and represents the beginning of a new day.
In Chinese culture, rats were seen as a sign of wealth and surplus. Because of their reproduction rate, married couples also prayed to them for children.”

Home highlights continues as I showcase a few spots throughout my new home that bring me simple peace. If you read my post a few days ago I revealed that OCD stripped away me ability to come home and feel safe or at peace, for several months. But slowly over time, I’ve been able to regain bits of that peace and security back (if you haven’t yet, check out my newest blog post titled ‘Diagnosing O.C.D., link in bio ☝🏻).
Surprisingly I only have one display shelf for “things”. I had to be very intentional on what few items I put on this beautiful gold Hawaiian styled shelf. It’s a mix and match of special gifts from friends , air looms from family, childhood items that I inherited, and reminders of my passion of traveling. Literally everytime I sit and look at the items on this shelf I just feel this rush of peace ❤️ Contentment is a powerful thing, especially when we learn to be content with little! *
Make a Realistic Budget💭💰⏳
While it goes without saying that any project needs a budget to keep costs in check, it's not always an easy task to find the balance between your dream designs and the amount in you've allotted for a project. This is why it is essential to get a true understanding of pricing, both with materials and labor, so you can gauge expectations accordingly.
Unfortunately, home improvement and renovation television shows can sometimes be misleading in terms of costs, which can vary greatly based on location and timing. Therefore, be sure to have a contractor look over your budget and confirm that it’s realistic.

Christmas tree is down and the carnage that ensued in the process of its removal is cleaned. Living room is back to lame, not-at-all-festive normal, womp womp. (except the vases need new greens but that requires more effort than I have in me currently... so alas, that waits for another day).
By the way I get questions all the time about why we don’t have curtains in many of our rooms. There is literally only one reason and it’s that curtains for 12.5-foot ceilings are ungodly expensive. Eventually we’ll get there 😂
