Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot...🎆 Bonfire Night is one of our favourite celebrations. We love the fireworks, the food and, of course, the bonfire :) This lapbook helps to learn about the history behind the celebration and the traditions that have grown up around it. You can also discover how fireworks get their colours.
It contains 13 minibooks with differentiated activities for ages 5 to 10 along with links to further information and activity suggestions.

Yesterday's bit of messy fun. Veg painting while I made soup with the rest veg and then coloured fuzzy fun with some vinegar and bicarb seeing as we were already covered in paint.
We did more matching of the constellation blocks using this book by Japanese author Shun Sekiguchi which is pretty comprehensive, as well as using the cards by @elliefunbox. I almost went crazy translating the Chinese 🤯😂 this is a beautiful book about a grandfather bringing his grandchildren to explore constellations at night. The illustrations make it easier to understand why we see certain fixed patterns in the sky all year round.

Ocean Sensory 🌊🐳 My poor Chanel has been very unwell with bronchitis and ear infections, but today she got a bit more lively and was obsessing over our ocean story stones exploring them on the couch. So once out to bed I have set this up for her to wake up in the morning if she still feels up to playing.
Fingers crossed 🤞🏽 strong little monkey, slowly feeling better. •

BOOK 📚 - A Math Journey Through Space [Anne Rooney]
This is a good book for older kids who are able to read and are independent learners. I love how the space theme is woven into the various topics of math. It includes a glossary, questions from each topic, as well as answers.
Physics is very much the subject of the age – top universities recommend physics as one of the key subjects to study at A level, plus a qualification in physics will help you stand out from the crowd when looking for a job.
Listen to Dr James Bedford, Head of Physics at Harrow School, and find out more about our International A Level in Physics course – link in bio.

A simple transferring activity for Miss 19. It is great to train on her concentration and fine motor + hand eye coordination for pre-writing skills. • •
I reused previous material but changed the container to a Halloween pumpkin and she love the new set up. 😊
Pumpkins truly are so quintessential of harvest and bounty. For handwork Liam and I wet felted balls and then I added in the detail touches. They’re small enough to be the perfect little special touch in story telling and small world play. @onwillowsbend was wonderful and added a little picture tutorial in her space of how to wet felt these little pumpkins. If you want to make one then I believe the instructions were saved in her highlights. Happy Thursday friends!

Thanks for this brilliant inspiration @happytotshelf! Edyn had fun with these monster eyes while introducing him to 一二三四. Quick, fun and fuss-free activity in the midst of unpacking stuff from our trip!
How do you put your child in the way of things worth observing? What are the places you like to bring them to for learning?
For us, lots of time outside! That is what we love! And playing with friends!

When you read a book and Miss 6 asked to paint a picture. Found a picture online and we drew it together. After that, she did up the picture by herself and finished off with her kitty name Kit (meant to be kitty but there’s no space) . I love the colors she choose ❤️
This book tells about a grumpy boy who makes a visit to the pet shop only to find “someone” like him. 😁 Very simple book I borrowed for Miss 6 easy reading. •

Eevee Vs Cycles - Today I have simply spent creating a well. And I’ve managed it, pretty successfully. And of course there is room for improvement- and i promise I will continue to make improvements. Because that’s how I’m going to keep learning. I am very happy with the results. I do like rendering in cycles but I personally prefer eevee. 😊
How do you develop your child's interest in writing?
Here is a few tips 💡
Provide a dedicated space. .
Provide the materials that fit their hands correctly.
Encourage the child to draw and to discuss her drawings.
Ask your child to tell you simple stories as you write them down and let see you writing. .
Encourage your child to write her name.
Favorite fall craft: I still love my fall girl I made last year ☺️ of all the things I spent so much time orchestrating in the beginning of my IG journey (when my focus was on growing my following), this is my favorite..
I’m always so full of confessions, so I’ll confess that last year I ended up ruining our holiday homeschool season trying to do these obnoxious crafts (as I’m not super crafty) so I could post a great photo 🤦🏻♀️ I joined a Christmas hashtag (with amazing women) but ended up force feeding my kids these things that I’m not even sure they had fun doing.. sometimes I had to finish them.. needed that photo 😆🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ .
My advice: that is high on the list of “how not to do Instagram” 😆
I am editing to add that I am critical of myself, but in no way is planning a craft for a photo a bad thing. I know I’ll continue to stage photos, probably plan a craft that I will finish myself and get sucked back into IG again.. I am just reflecting on my journey on this platform 😘

Am I the only one who feels that learning resources can be quite costly? 💰 One of the questions I often ask before buying: “Can I make it myself?”
⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
I’ve been eyeing the Montessori wooden place value cards but decided to save the 💵 and make them! I cut recycled cardboards into different lengths and wrote down the numbers ✂️ Because of the thick material, these DIY cards have lasted us for weeks and are still in good condition!
⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
I used the cards to teach D about place values because he has been asking me how to read numbers with > 2 digits. So we played a little game, where he picks up a number, and form it using the place value cards.
⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
After playing a couple of times, D got the hang of it and even asked for bigger numbers with 5, 6, 7 digits! 🙌🏻 Concrete, hands-on learning helps children grasp concepts so easily!
⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀

I did this dental activity with the kids, because its time to visit the dentist! 👨🏻⚕️I can totally understand why some kids wail and refuse to open their mouth to the dentists; especially when they don’t know what to expect! What’s that sharp thing in my mouth? Will all my teeth be pulled out? 😨
In my bid to alleviate the fears in my kids, I’ll be engaging them in some dental play activities. First up, this simple brushing activity: roll the dice, and brush the corresponding number of plaque off the teeth! 🦷 While playing, they work on their ✔️visual motor ✔️fine motor ✔️subitizing ✔️one-to-one correspondence and the ✔️importance of dental hygiene!👏🏻
✨TRUE STORY: After this activity, C, who is the queen of procrastination when it comes to brushing teeth/showering, REQUESTED TO BRUSH HER TEETH ON HER OWN 😱 She has never been so enthusiastic about brushing her teeth EVER!!! You HAVE to try this game, it might just get your kids to cooperate! No more power struggles!😆
Tips: 1️⃣ Talk to your kids about what plaque is, what happens when food is stuck in the teeth, how can we prevent having cavities etc. 2️⃣ You can modify the activity by writing numbers, letters, shapes on the teeth etc. 3️⃣ Reverse the roles and make the children draw in the plaque, while you do the brushing. 4️⃣ For the audio learners, sing a related song while “brushing” (you can easily find a teeth brushing song on YouTube)🎶
‼️I’m giving you this teeth printable for free! Print, laminate (or put it in a clear folder) and you are ready to go! 🎈Subscribe to the mailing list, get the password, gain free access to this printable and all the other goodies in the resource vault. Have fun! #olpn_dental#olpn_toddlers

When we are homebound 🤒 but the kids need an outlet to expend their energy... set up an indoor obstacle course! 🚧 I only used 3 supplies for this simple course: ➕ painter’s tape ➕ cut outs of the kids’ hands ➕ contact paper.
Since the kids like to run and jump around the house, I decided to channel their energy into these balance and proprioceptive exercises, they love it! 🎉 I only hope my neighbour living one floor down doesn’t complain about the thumping! 🙈 Inspired by @totsontarget and the learning spaces at @sparkanauts
🙌🏻 Grab some tape and let your kids have some gross motor fun even during wet weather. Check out the link in my profile for other gross motor activities! 🤸♂️ #olpn_grossmotor#grossmotor#grossmotorskills#olpn_toddler#olpn_preschool
Switching it up/Loop Scheduling: So much of what I’ve altered in our homeschool journey is the simple act of slowing down. I no longer strive to check off boxes, to get through our curriculum... curriculum is no longer taking the front seat, I planned my year to make sure I made it through the curriculum before the switching of grades.. this is not a practical plan.. I’ve been doing every.single.subject, hopping from one subject to another without giving my girls time to enjoy what they were learning. Who was I racing against? Why did I make such impractical goals for myself or for my girls minds?
My Loop Schedule:
(This is where I combine their grammar, drawing and narration.. I have my girls draw and narrate one thing from whatever we learn and so I stopped using Writing With Ease and I stopped doing a writing workshop with my oldest because that was overkill)
“My child cannot sit still and learn!” ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Wait, why must little children sit still to learn? In fact, children learn better when they are moving! 🤸🏼♀️ Their hearts beat faster, more oxygen gets into their brains and it aids in stimulating their mental and intellectual growth 💭 Children move, touch and experience to learn; and these sensory input strengthen the synapses in their brains 🧠 Movement IS an essential factor for cognitive development!!
I remember when I first introduced letters to D, I used a lot of manipulatives and games. He likes blocks so I added dot stickers to the mega bloks and have him match upper case to lower case letters. Tip: Create a context to motivate your child! In this case I told him to “build a train” and he got so excited! 🚞 Kids all love a little pretend play! ♥️
