So, let’s have some science. Studies have shown that, while stress, limited knowledge of how to cook healthy foods & taste preferences are definitely some of the barriers causing young adults to opt NOT to eat “healthy” nutritious meals (House et al 2006, Andajani-Sutjahjo et al 2004), the most FREQUENTLY reported barrier to healthy eating has shown to be lack of time (Betts et al 1995, Greaney et al 2009, Lappalainen et al 1997)
Depending on the demographic and/or age, this can be because of commitments to work, school, and/or leisure activities leisure schedules (Betts et al 1995) however, overall, “not having time” has thus been shown to be one of, if not the main causes of increased junk & convenience food consumption (takeaway or pre-packaged) (Inglis et al 2005) along with being associated with a lower quality of diet overall with significantly lower fruit & vegetable intake (Welch et al 2009, Larson et al 2009)
While you can argue that you can still just “hit your macros” with junk/convenience foods, most people do NOT track their macros & thus, due to junk/convenience foods often being very energy dense, this could be a risk factor for weight gain and/or obesity. Furthermore, vitamins & minerals are crucial for overall health & prevention of disease (Shenkin 2006) thus, by frequently opting for junk/convenience foods (which are sig. lower in micronutrients) over more nutrient dense food/meals, you may start to impair your HEALTH as well.
Bought another size 10 jeans! 🥳They fit like a glove woot! Which is nice because the scale is not rewarding me this week, I’m up 0.5 lbs from last Saturday. 👎🏻 But I have faith that if I work the system next week I’ll be able to make my weigh-in. I need to get at least a pound down. In the mean time, I’m still going to enjoy my weekend—not binge, but enjoy. My experience with weight spikes is that if I stay the course it will all work out. So much better to accept and move forward. ✌️
Also is there anything better than snuggling up with a fuzzy blanket and a good book on a rainy day?📚 .

I decided on 4-10-17 that I no longer wanted to make the same choices I had in the past. At 44 years of age, weighing 404.4 lbs, struggling to choose whether to get busy living or busy dying, I chose life.
I made choices.
I made good choices.
I made consistently good choices.
Not PERFECT choices, but I did not give up!
I will not give up.
Those good choices I’ve made consistency, overtime have added up to big results.
I’m now 46, it’s been two years on this Clean Eating, natural weight loss journey to wellness in every way Mind + Body + Soul and I have NO regrets. I’ve lost over -200 lbs around my body 💪 but more weight than I can calculate between my ears! 🧠 .
I have never starved myself, eliminated or deprived! I have been sensible, kept it simple and that has made it sustainable.
I share now because when TRUTH smacks you in the face you know it!
It resonates with us in a deep place
And YOU recognize it.

Haven’t shared a recipe in a while and this cornmeal spinach pie is my most requested one whenever I show it in stories.
Preheat oven to 400F/200C
In a small bowl mix together:
•1 1/2 cups corn meal •1/2 cup all purpose flour
•1 Tbs olive oil •2/3 cup water. Add a little bit at a time to reach a consistently that’s thicker and less flowy than cake batter.
Lay above batter on an oiled/buttered baking pan (I use 13”x9” or 33cmX22cm) and work it with your hand to cover the pan evenly.
In another bigger bowl mix together:
•8 oz (250g) baby spinach, chopped roughly •2 bunches of scallions, chopped finely
•8 oz (250g) feta cheese, crumble by hand. The more the better. •2 Tbs plain yogurt
•1 Tbs olive oil
Lay above mixture on top of the cornmeal batter. Spread out evenly.
Take about 1-2 Tbs cornmeal and using your fingers, sprinkle it on top of the spinach layer covering it slightly. Then take same amount of water and sprinkle on top of that. The flour should be wet but not soaking.
Chop 1 Tbs butter into small cubes and disperse them over the spinach layer.
Place pan in oven and lower heat to 350F/175C (preferably conventional bake/fan on) for 35-45mins till the bottom is golden and crunchy. Serve warm for best taste.

From previous posts, we must lower stress. If we are always in a flight or fight state, we can’t even digest our foods properly. The digestive system works optimally when we are in a rest and relax, parasympathetic state.⠀
🥴So when we eat on the run or eat when we’re chronically stressed, we are constantly adding fuel to the fire to break down our gut health. And I’ll keep saying this until we can all recite it together but over 80% of our immune system is in our gut and over 80% of our nutrients are absorbed in our gut.⠀
💡Essentially when we have poor gut health, we have poor health.⠀

They say look forward. Yet, sometimes it helps to look back. I was so down on myself, yesterday, when I started comparing myself to what I thought was my strongest... then I thought about times in further past when I couldn’t climb a flight of stairs without getting winded.... and to the time when this woman on NYC subway looked at me with disgust and said: “Omg! Your so fat, you take up 2 spaces’”. True story! She said it in front of my then teenage son and ... I felt so embarrassed... People can be so cruel. thanks god, kids always love you for what’s on the inside - he felt bad for me and told me to not listen to her. But what was heard could never be unheard. My now 25yr old couldn’t be prouder and that gives me the everlasting strength to bounce back when I loose my ways... and guess what - just bounced back again and loving it.
Time Restricted Feeding.
This is the one practice that I've done (@b_robd here 🙋🏽♂️) the most consistently over the last 5 years. It's allowed me so much flexibility in diet, steadfast energy, as well as time and space to focus on self reflection.
It inherently causes caloric restriction (the basis for weight loss/longevity) in a way that is MUCH more sustainable than traditional diets of counting calories. It provides convenience coupled with enormous mental and physical benefits.
I usually consume all of my calories from 12p to 8p, 5 days a week with a 24 hour fast once a week.
Who here restricts their eating time or intermittent fasts and what have you found that works for you? 🥩🍳🥗 -

Morning routine and habits. Part 2 ☀️ ✌🏽 (check my previous post for steps 1-5). These have changed my game this year already and set my intentions 🙌🏽...
6. COFFEE ☕️ My @delonghiuk bean to cup machine is BAE and I’ve taken a leaf out of @zannavandijk book and usually list my ‘morning coffee thoughts’. This is like a form of meditation, write it down, get it out of your mind. Already we’ve completed some gratitude (step 3) and meditation, WHO’S WINNING NOW?! 7. Check emails/ Whatsapps to clear any urgent to-do’s. I then write out a TO-DO list for the day to clear my head. It’s like closing a few tabs down in my mind to prioritise what’s important and what I need to stop worrying about.
8. Read at least 1 chapter of my book. 2020 book club target of 1 book p/month is already getting blown out of the water, booooyaaa. Check my highlights for reads so far 📚
9. SWEAT. My favourite part of the morning. Putting in the work and making myself move (even when I don’t want to). Gym or long walk with a podcast, no excuses, I get it done. Stretching and mobility has become a huge priority for me, ya gal ain’t getting any younger and determined to keep flexible and prevent injuries with some proper maintenance.
10. HUSTLE. I usually start with one of my favourite tasks for the day, because endorphins are pumpin’ and creativity is flow in’. And then I work my way through my to do list in terms of priority- aggressively ticking off as I complete them is the BEST feeling 😂
