It takes a lot for me to ask for help. I'm not sure if it's pride, stupidity, or stubbornness, but I finally applied for unemployment benefits after my job layoff at the end of July. I figured I would find a job that would fit my passion within a month since then, but that didn't seem to be the case. In the meantime, I need to track my work search history for the state if they request to see it. Hope this helps someone else in my shoes! Keep your head up!

IF you’re boring, THEN you’ll be stuck at your job.
Remember those If, Then statements you learned in middle school? This should’ve been TOP of the list.
Yes, I know...
You’re good at what you do
You’ve even been working your way up at work
You get compliments left and right
You see job descriptions and know they were made just for you
Your inbox is full of “Sorry we decided to go with another candidate...”
Because you might be good at what you do, but you might also be boring.
Ok, *YOU* might not be boring, but your...
...are sending a WHOLE ‘mother message, painting you as Boring Beatrice.
Yes, people want to hire people who can get the job done, YES absolutely.
But they also want to hire REAL humans, with REAL personalities, people they like and want to be around.
To get the job you want, you must show you’re both — as professionally, confidently and gracefully as possible.

♾ ARCHITECTURE ♾
As you know I’ve been searching for a job in the Architecture industry. With the number of jobs available low, and the number of applicants very high, this has made the process take much longer than expected. I decided I would try to find some form of part time work in the industry, to keep my skills up to scratch, and will also be good for experience on my CV.
Last week I was made aware of a potential position and I jumped at the chance, I sent off my cv, samples of portfolio and my email explained why I thought I was good for the job. Luckily, I was invited to an interview on Thursday and it went brilliantly! The company loved my portfolio and my can-do attitude, but what set me apart from my competition were my other skills. This includes my graphic design, photography, videography and website building - all of which I spoke about passionately.
2 years ago I was ‘stuck’ in a job I disliked. I wasn’t growing, progressing or getting paid enough.
Instead of accepting my ‘fate’ and drowning in misery, I decided to make my time count for something. And so I enrolled in a Masters programme.
It was only by Gods grace that I survived that 1.5 year period:
➡️My work was based on shifts, and so I had to constantly swap my shifts with colleagues and do them favours so I’d attend class
➡️I’d have one screen open with work stuff and the other screen I’d be low key doing assignments
➡️I was not getting paid much, and so for a whole year literally worked to pay rent, bills and school fees. I had to negotiate with the school to pay through installments
Today I can look back and say wow, God saw me through, I did it.
Whatever situation you’re in today, keep going, hold on to your vision and in 2 years time you’ll look back and be proud.
If you're currently in a state of confusion, investing in yourself is never a bad idea.
