For the first time ever, I bought my kids Christmas pajamas instead of making them myself. Between work, life, and the never ending barf-mageddon we’ve been living in for the last week, I was just stretched too thin. And you know what? The kids are pumped and couldn’t care less where the pajamas came from... Turns out the only person putting pressure on me is me. 🤷🏻♀️
There is nothing fancy about this, but it can be very effective! My two boys (almost 5 & 3.5) have been fighting like crazy the past few days. All normal brother stuff, but it has been non-stop and I was finding myself engaging wayyyyy too much in it😝 This morning, I made them each a tree with ornaments on it. We talked about being kind & thoughtful & helpful & came up with examples of each. Then we talked about behaviors that were not kind, not thoughtful & not helpful! We roll-played each positive behavior I was expecting for a few minutes. “B, show me what you can do when you’re done playing with legos. P, let me hear how you could ask your brother for his toy back., etc!”
Then I explained to them: every time I catch you being good, you can color an ornament. When all of your ornaments are colored in, you may pick a prize (or have a treat, or earn 5 minutes of iPad time, a special book, etc!) To get them excited I made sure to have them earn FAST the first time around. It kept the positive momentum going and almost eliminated fighting the first hour of the day🙌🏽 it also reminded me to focus more on the positive then on the negative 💙 I need to be purposeful with my praise & purposeful in the way I redirect them. When they did fight, I ignored it & walked away. If it got intense, I reminded them of the behaviors I expected & how they could earn an ornament. For my 3.5 year old, I started his first tree with (4) ornaments, then gradually moved up. The whole point is to help them be successful and for them to see & feel that success. We are now halfway through the day and the earning has slowed way down; they are playing & sharing & listening 🙌🏽🙌🏽 I am still rewarding them but the environment is more calm and relaxed and not needing the constant external reward! Sometimes we get stuck in a rut and something small like this always helps us to get out of it! * I choose NOT to take away what they have already earned (I.e remove an ornament if they begin fighting, not listening etc). They have already earned it for a positive behavior and I don’t feel it’s effective to remove it for something different but that’s totally just my opinion!

Stickers, ALWAYS a huge hit. These reusable stickers pads by Melissa and Doug last forever! Great for cold, rainy, snowy days, whatever it is. I hide these away and then bring them out when I need them to have a distraction😊 Happy Friday everyone! Cheers to another week in the books!
// CHRISTMAS PLAY // I've been really intentional about NOT trying to do ALL the things this festive season, as it's always a busy time of year for us, and this year is certainly no different!
We have a few traditions that I make sure we do together every year - decorate the Christmas tree and bake gingerbread cookies together. Oh, and we have an elf that visits, she usually arrives on Dec 1 with our bare Christmas tree to decorate and some new Christmas books to add to our collection, then she just moves to a new spot each night which makes for a fun game of hide and seek every morning #NoCrazyTricksHere 🙈
But like most parents, I also like to inject a bit of Christmas play each year, but this year I decided to keep things SUPER easy #ForMyOwnSanity
I collected all the Christmassy things we already had - green playdough, green and red rainbow rice and a whole bunch of Christmas cookie cutters, made a small batch of green and pink (I thought they were red 😂) waterbeads and I bought a couple of packets of mini baubles, and have had them all on rotation, ready for the kids to grab when they want.
Having such open ended materials means that there are endless ways to play with what we have 🙌
A perfect example is this waterbead and cookie cutter sensory tub ☝️ Samuel used a pair of our jumbo tweezers to transfer water beads into the cookie cutters and mini star tray (which is supporting not only his fine motor skills, but also his hand strength and coordination 💪), then the next day using the SAME materials, we worked together to sort the waterbeads by colour into the different cookie cutters #SoManyWaysToPlay
But the reason that I'm sharing this is because I know that it can feel like you need to buy ALL the bits and pieces to be able to do ALL the Christmas activities you might see on Instagram, but what *actually* matters to your little ones the most is YOU.
So instead of doing an extra trip to the shops to buy some more green and red stuff this weekend, use what you can find at home and spend that extra time engaging in QUALITY PLAY with your little one - they'll appreciate it so much more 😚

1 copo de amido de milho;
1 copo de cola branca;
2 colheres de vinagre;
2 colheres óleo de cozinha.
Misture tudo e coloque de 15 a 30 segundo no microondas e vai mexendo até ficar uma massa lisa.
🦃THANKFUL TURKEY🦃 ok ok I know it's Halloween today (HAPPY HALLOWEEN!🎃) and I'm jumping ahead slightly buuuuut it's with for a good reason 😉 THIS 👆🏻 is what the kids and I will be starting tomorrow (November 1) as our big Thanksgiving project - this is our FOURTH YEAR doing it 😭🎉 I know so many of you did this last year with us so I wanted to share in case some more of you want to start with us tomorrow too 😍 This is such a joy to do each year and a great way for the kids to visualize and reflect on how much they have to be thankful for (since thankful can be a bit abstract for our kids) 🙌🏻 Here’s the 4-1-1: I make a cute little turkey body from a grocery store bag and hang it on our wall 🍂 Each day, we talk about the word "thankful" and say one thing we are thankful for 🐿 I write these on a colorful feather I had cut from construction paper 🌾 We tape these to the turkey/wall with Painters Tape and watch him grow little by little 🍄 The first year we did this, Kate was only 22 months & she’d mostly just name things she saw in the room 😂 But it was still good for her even so young ❤️ Now, all these years later, the kids are getting pretty good at this & it’s fun to hear what they’re thankful for 🙌🏻 FUN SIDE BET: each year I like to play a game with myself called “how many days will go by BEFORE they remember to be thankful for me” 🤣 Last year, it only took a week, but I came after three neighbors and the grocery store clerk 😂 So this turkey is what we will start tomorrow and build all month long - what a plump guy he’ll be by Thanksgiving Day 🦃 Happy Halloween friends!! So excited to see all the kids in their costumes tonight 🍬🎃👻☠️🍫

Sunday’s are for family time and outside play..besides messy sensory fun, what other ‘toys’ are suitable to come out into nature?? The bamboo construct and roll will be your ‘outside’ bestie! It’s so versatile, and can be set up in so many various configurations, plus it encourages STEM learning. What’s not to love??..
