I decided awhile ago that I would show up here authentically as those two things, because they feel so connected to me. 💛
My education and experience as a teacher shapes who I am as a mother, just as my education and experience as a parent changes the way I teach. 💛
This space is just as much about what I'M learning, as what I'm trying to teach. 💛
And really, what I'm able to teach depends so much on what I understand and practice myself. In order to teach reading, I need to understand the various skills that build literacy. In order to teach kindness, I need to know how to be kind to myself and others. In order to teach emotional intelligence, I need to be aware of my own emotions. 💛
One of the more recognized holidays in March is approaching, along with all the accompanying paraphernalia. I refer of course to St. Patrick’s Day and all the green that comes with it. Each year, conspicuous amounts of green beer are consumed to mark the day. However, that’s not March 17th started.
Who was St. Patrick?
St. Patrick was born in the late 4th century in Britain, probably under the name Maewyn Succat. He came from a wealthy family and lived near Hadrian’s Wall. Historical records show no fervent religious upbringing. When he was 16, Irish raiders captured Maewyn. From ages 16 to 22, Maewyn was enslaved in Ireland. Some accounts state he was a herdsman during this time. In order to cope with what was happening, Maewyn turned to the Christian faith of his childhood. Records from the Catholic church indicate he had a vision that directed him to walk away from his master, thus ending his enslavement. When Maewyn made it back to Britain, he entered a religious course of study. Ostensibly, a vision showed him saving Ireland. His religious studies took over a decade, during which he was ordained a priest and then a bishop. It was entering the priesthood that Maewyn took the name Patrick.
Patrick was eventually sent to Ireland as a missionary. He was supposed to nurture the Christians already living in Ireland and try to convert more. Instead, he managed to convert a large part of the population throughout his lifetime.Rather than focus on eradicating the nature-based religion most of Ireland followed, Patrick worked elements of it into the Christian message to make conversion easier. He was also notoriously fair with the Irish and spoke the language. This set him apart from other missionaries and helped his success.
Patrick died in the mid-fifth century in Ireland. His exact burial location is unknown.

Homeopathy doesn’t work as it has consistently failed to show any efficacy beyond placebo. How do we know this? Hundreds of studies have been conducted and all point to this conclusion. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Most recently, a systematic review (a very powerful form of scientific evidence) looked at 1,800 studies and still concluded that #homeopathy doesn’t work. No matter how much one wants to believe, the evidence doesn’t support the position that homeopathy is effective for treating anything. As Critical Thinkers, we are bound by the evidence. Therefore our position must be that homeopathy is bunk and anyone who promotes it is a charlatan.
“Perhaps you remember when scientists debunked homeopathy in 2002. Or 2010. Or 2014. But now a major Australian study analyzing over 1,800 papers has shown that homeopathy, the alternative treatment that relies on super-diluted substances and the principle of “like cures like” is completely ineffective.
After assessing more than 1,800 studies on homeopathy, Australia’s National Health and Medical Research Council was only able to find 225 that were rigorous enough to analyze. And a systematic review of these studies revealed “no good quality evidence to support the claim that homeopathy is effective in treating health conditions.”

Quiet Monday at home, making bracelets with beads and pipe cleaner and playing with stamps. She wanted to practice her counting so we used the beads to count to 10. #unschooling

100 client hrs achieved!! A big milestone to get to, in my training.
Feeling a mixture of things.... Gratitude to the clients who've trusted me with their stories and emotions. Relief for getting to this point. Excitement for all the clients I'm yet to meet as I carry on with my training. Pride for having got this far and making (I think) some small difference to the people I work with.

What is the game plan for your life?
"You're probably won't be able to do all that you find out, but you should find out all you can do" - Jim Rohn
It is a scary yet inspiring statement.
Let me explain.
When we set goals for our life, we are assigning meaning and purpose to it.
There is nothing more empowering and satisfying than realizing that you can create the meaning and purpose for your life.
The only alternative is to acquired meaning from other people.
Such as our parents, professors, friends.
But we would not live up to our true potentials.
There are plenty of people that choose the alternative because at least they know what is going to happen.
Create something from the unknown is scary. I mean, you have a risk of looking like a fool and waste your time.
I was lucky enough to have a depression when I moved here and forced me to ask, "what the fuck are you doing with your life?"
It helped me create goals that are unique to me alone.
So if you feel lost and don't know what you're doing. Understand that you have the power to create your meaning.
It is even scarier if you realize you were living someone else's life at the end of your life.
Unconscious bias in your work can influence your decisions with clients, promoting your services, personal development and professional recognition and can lead to a poor or inappropriate results.
Coaches and mentors can overlook talent and instead favour strengths that are based on their own characteristics or views.
It is so important that as 'experts' we continue to talk to:
- colleagues in our sector
- peers from different disciplines
- challenge out own philosophies
It is so crucial that as people helping people we continue to make sure we are challenging our own thoughts, actions and competencies for both those thoughts that can cause damage to others without us even realising it👌
Happy Monday everybody! As we rush about in the knowledge we've entered the final quarter of 2019, a little reminder of the importance of creating space. 💖
Simply put, sometimes we just need a moment. 🎐
Now taking a moment doesn’t mean we’re stopping; it means that we’re taking time to reassess the current situation, take in new information and make room for more opportunities, more space, and a better structure. And that's important! 😉
Space allows for expansion and in those moments of silence, the Bhaga Gavita states that in between the Ohms we find our true selves. The truth lies in the stillness and the silence, and sometimes we have to create the room in order to bring that absolute into our lives without fear. ✨
We want to ensure that we remain clean and clear in all areas of our lives: relationships, career, finances, health, wellness, exercise, prosperity, friendships, etc. 🧘🏻♀️ Creating Space is a key tool in maintaining that clarity and once we have it internally, we’ll begin doing things externally to keep that frequency alive. 💫
So today, find a little moment to create space in your life. What do you notice?
This weekend I was fortunate enough to attend the @cgexpectations gala where a good friend Dr. Emily Bosk was awarded with a Humanitarian of the Year award. My #motivationmonday is thanks to Emily and her amazing work but also thanks to this incredible organization. The @cgexpectations began as an organization servicing 12 women and now years later serves 600 families a year. Check them out and the wonderful work they do. I am in awe of the dedication and direction of this organization and hope that Raising Hands Tutoring will be lucky enough to have such a success story.
An Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) group from Pierre stopped by last week for a tour and a talk on satellite mechanics.

October 21st, 2011:
Today I woke up around 7 and did some research online. Mostly about Denver. Around 11, I decided to head down to the beach for a run. Two miles in and my shoes came off. I sat down in the sand and stared off into the ocean to do some reflecting. I'm not sure how I feel about here (Santa Monica) — temporary is a word that comes to mind. I thought about New York and I thought about Denver. 24 hours in, and something’s got me itching to leave... #thisismystory#coasttocoast#tripofalifetime
This morning, Executive Director Heather Davis presented a SAGE Lecture with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Her talk, Learning Works, explored our mission and discussed the ways in which our programs strenghten our community and empower youth. Thank you to our board members, Cheryl Greaney and Niru Aggarwal as well as donor Susan Abt for attending!
❤ if you agree.
How do we define ‘a mission’? It’s pretty simple. 💁🏽♂
Your mission is your contribution to the human race. It’s something that helps you leave the planet better off. 🌍
It doesn’t have to be a massive new business or a game-changing piece of technology. It could be dedicating your life to raising remarkable children. 👶
It could be working for a company with a mission to change the world in a way that resonates with you.
The key is that when you have this calling, work dissolves. What you’re doing excites you. It’s a passion; it’s meaningful. ✨
You’d probably do it for no money, since it’s anything but work.
What would you do for free?👇 That’s a good place to start.
Fear is positive, if you face it: I will never turn my back on it. If you are confronted with your fears, you can learn a lot, especially about yourself. The feeling of experiencing a fearful situation and knowing, you mastered it well is incredible. It makes you grow, so don’t run away from your fear. For me, going through frightening situations is part of my lifelong learning process, I need it for personal development. Try to see fear as a friend and a teacher who helps you master challenging situations.
Share with me: What was your biggest fear ever and what did you learn from it? How did you turn a negative into a positive?
Do you have a finite or infinite mindset?
There are three factors that we should and must consider when deciding how we want to lead: 📚We don't get to choose whether a particular game is finite or infinite. 📚We don't get to choose whether or not we want to join the game. 📚Should we choose to join the game, we can choose whether we want to play with a finite or an infinite mindset.
Infinite mindset must follow five essential practices:
What is learning for you? For me, it is more than just reading a book or listening to a teacher. Learning includes thinking, trying, observing, overcoming or conquering, even failing is learning. But in my opinion, the most important action of learning is doing and gaining experiences. For me, lifelong learning is more than a capability – it is the attitude of being curios and part of my life philosophy Challenge Management. That is also why my method F.A.C.E. the Challenge gives people more willpower in the meaning of implementation energy.
