This Friday, we're thanking Isabella from Milland Chapel, West Sussex.
Though she would never admit it, Isabella is an enormously talented craftswoman. When it comes to lime mortar, there's nothing she doesn't know and she's been tending to this ancient chapel in the woods for almost two decades now. And the brilliant condition of the building is testament to her skill and dedication.
This week at Stratum Masonry, our stonemasons are working on our current project in Govan where they are looking to complete majority of works before the holidays commence.
Works currently being undertaken:
✅St One Repairs.
✅Stone Replacement .
These works were all identified from a MEWP access survey conducted in September. This is a service Stratum Masonry are proud to offer, as it gives our clients clarity on the full scope of works, which may not be easily identified from a ground level survey. .
If you would like to know more, please visit our website listed below, and our new blog post, which will be going live in the coming days!
🔷 Work completed today on this beautiful property in Herne Bay @georgian_house_restoration. The team removed the old copings and fitted new once weathered portland stone. With the age of the building there had been a bit of movement to the brickwork. Notice the bow and dip to the brickwork. This gave the team some fun when fitting the new stones! 👉🏼 Swipe over to see the finished project. 📧 Email for quotes and enquiries
Taking off some nasty cement render to let this Victorian basement flat in Charlton south London breath again! Unfortunately the cement had done too much damage to leave the bricks bare so we rendered it with lime mortar, which will still let the building breath and won’t trap the moisture like cement. Couple days left snagging and casting cills and jobs a gooden! #lime#rendering#limemortar#restoration#basement#victorian#london#southlondon
Even though my insta is pretty fitnessfocused, my everyday life is not. Because I’m more than that. My everyday life is this. Building peoples homes and keeping our cultural heritage alive. It’s a male world, and a very male proffesion. To be respected for my craftmanship, I have to avoid sexy bootypics in my workswear. And I like that. Girls, go run the world. It’s more important than your ass on insta.
I’m all about this brick chimney breast in what will be the living room! The colour and pattern of the brickwork is so characteristic of the historic London buildings that I love. We are going to repoint it with lime mortar to retain the traditional look, and leave it exposed. To get to this stage we had to correct a bunch of seriously strange decisions made by the previous owners, including building an odd faux brick fireplace, and also knocking a decent sized hole straight through the party wall into next door’s chimney. We basically had to rebuild a chunk of the fireplace using reclaimed London stock bricks and lime mortar. It ended up becoming a bit of a personal project for Chloe’s dad Charlie, and I think he has done a great job! Thanks Charlie! Time to get on with the other one now! 😂
