Dallas industry stalwart Daniel Huerta announces his retirement.⠀
When Daniel Huerta announced his retirement as assistant director from the City of Dallas Park & Recreation Department, it was with the sincere heart of a man ready for his next calling in life while at the same time moving away from an industry he has known for so long and to which he has contributed on many volunteer levels within IAVM.⠀
“I will definitely miss the industry,” Daniel said, “but more that that I will miss the people in it that give so much of their time and effort.”⠀
He qualified the comment by saying he is still in his capacity through the summer, so let’s not move Daniel out the door so fast.⠀
In fact, we wish we could keep him forever. It’s what you want when you get someone with a beaming personality who is always smiling and laughing.⠀
Daniel has been in the venue management industry for 36 glorious years and calls the time with the City professionally and personally rewarding.⠀
Daniel is a friend to the City of Dallas and in addition to his work at Fair Park, he has also oversaw management of the Dallas Convention Center (now Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center), Reunion Arena, Union Station, Dallas Farmers Market, and the City’s Office of Special Events.⠀
Daniel’s volunteer service is legendary. In addition to his many contributions to IAVM, he has worked with Dallas Aquatics, Volunteer Services, Youth Services, Youth Sports, Marketing, Community Engagement, Reservations and Special Events, and the Kiest Softball Quadplex.⠀
Daniel summed it up best this way: “I am proud of what we have achieved over the years by working collectively with our citizens, volunteers, friends’ groups, partners, and the City of Dallas organization. The numerous initiatives implemented by our exceptional executive team and staff, under the leadership of the Park and Recreation Board and the Mayor and City Council, have made us a spotlight on the national stage of the park and recreation industry once again.”⠀
Daniel will always be in the spotlight for his humility and dedication, certainly not because he goes seeking a spotlight.
