Iron is a mineral that is important for human survival because the body needs it for growth and development. Your body uses iron to make hemoglobin, a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to all parts of the body, and myoglobin, a protein that provides oxygen to muscles.
Iron in food comes in two forms: heme iron and nonheme iron. Nonheme iron is found in plant foods and iron-fortified food products. Meat, seafood, and poultry have both heme and nonheme iron.
Your body absorbs iron from plant sources better when you eat it with foods that contain vitamin C, such as citrus fruits, strawberries, sweet peppers, tomatoes, and broccoli.
Getting too little iron does not cause obvious symptoms. The body uses its stored iron in the muscles, liver, spleen, and bone marrow. But when levels of iron stored in the body become low, iron deficiency, anemia sets in. Red blood cells become smaller and contain less hemoglobin. As a result, blood carries less oxygen from the lungs throughout the body.
Symptoms of iron deficiency anemia include GI upset, weakness, tiredness, lack of energy, and problems with concentration and memory. In addition, people with iron deficiency anemia are less able to fight off germs and infections, to work and exercise, and to control their body temperature. Infants and children with iron deficiency anemia might develop learning difficulties.
Iron deficiency is most prevalent among women due to loss of blood during menstruation and pregnancy.

For almost the past 2 weeks I've been doing a program called 3 week yoga retreat. This is by far the best decision I've made. While I love heavyweight lifting and running marathons there is something yoga does for my soul. I became a certified yoga instructor years ago and had put it on pause unintentionally while doing other fitness programs and going to the gym. I refound my joy for fitness and it betters me as a coach as well. Do you try to do things that bring you joy and better you as a person? I'm finally coming out of this latest pain flare and theres nothing like washing your hair 👩🦰🚿and wrapping up with a decent book 📖 to return to normality.
Is it just me or does anyone else resort to just sticking their hair up in a bun during a flare and leaving the washing/drying malarkey for another day? 🤫
It can be helpful to use acronyms at times, especially when learning and practicing a new skill. RAIN can be used when feeling overwhelmed, when you catch yourself on autopilot or as routine mindfulness. RAIN was initially developed in the 80’s by a Buddist teacher, Michele McDonald, and has since been modified by meditation teacher Tara Brach. I invite you to incorporate RAIN into your own meditation practice as an effort to bring more kindness and compassion towards yourself. We could all stand to be a bit nicer to ourselves, am I right?!? R - Recognize: What is going on for you? What are you feeling?
A - Allow: (*Accept) Allow whatever is happening. Let it be. Bring Acceptance to the moment.
I - Investigate: (*Interest, Inquire) What message are you telling yourself? Bring Interest to the experience. Where are you experiencing this in your body? Be curious, without judgment.
N - Nurture: Take care of your feelings. Provide nurturing words to offer comfort and compassion *modification words are here as ideas to help in finding what works best for you

Last week I spoke about why people can’t stick to diets (because we’re not in charge of our emotional equilibrium without food). But there’s more to why diets don’t really work.
No matter how much “willpower” you have, willpower. always. gives. out.
When you take action from a place of will and control, you are operating from the belief that your weight needs to change in order for you to be happy.
That by controlling your diet, you will lose weight and then be happy. In that order (diet -> lose weight -> become happy/feel better). And that’s not how it works. Happiness does not come from how much we weigh. It comes from our relationship to ourselves and our perspective.
If you keep trying to control your weight by controlling what you eat, you will never reach happiness because “needing to lose weight to be happy” and “being happy” are on two separate planes.
They do not overlap. TRYING to find happiness or feel better and actually BEING happy and feeling better never intersect.
You become happy when you become willing to accept exactly where you are right now.
They are two totally different belief systems and mentalities.
One belief system keeps you perpetually chasing an ideal that will never result in the peace you desire (think hamster on a wheel). The other drops you straight into peace & happiness without having to change yourself first. Then the magic reallyyyy gets started.
Happiness is a perspective of appreciating and finding gratitude for whatever is present in this moment and requires willingness to accept imperfection.
IF EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT YOU WOULD NEVER LEARN AND YOU WOULD NEVER GROW 🐛
