Thank goodness for some tricks I’ve learned from other photographers to get a pic with everyone smiling. I love free- flowing pictures showing connection, but there is always something about everyone smiling that I love - and love to deliver to my clients.
Another thing I do at the end of every session is ask Mom and Dad if they'd like a couple pictures of just the two of them. Some are exhausted from wrangling the little ones and say "that's okay" while others get a smile on their face and respond with "Sure! I can't tell you the last time we did that!" ❤️
There have been many times in my life as a mom that I have wanted good pics with my kids. Occasionally we all look happy and together. But mostly I want my kids to see what I looked like when they were little. Because I loved them so much. There was love in every moment, even when I had bags under my eyes and tiredness in my bones.
I watched this momma reaching for her boys, loving on them, and smiling with all her joy for their moment together. And I’m so glad I could capture that for her!

Perks of being the last ones in the park during a crazy sunset...
These two brothers played in the evening light and reminded me of my first two sons. Close in age, silly expressions or tongues out, running as much as possible. I look back with such fondness on that time, but it was exhausting too! Thankful for my teens now - yet looking in wistfulness at these sweet brothers.
Loved seeing this little man and his family tonight ❤️

Are you a parent? What do you miss most about the newborn stage? Not a parent yet or have one on the way? What are you looking forward to the most?
I do not have kids yet, but after having worked with so many newborns and families, I look forward to that overwhelming love every mama has when she looks at her baby and the joy that radiates from her knowing that she helped bring this beautiful little miracle into the world.
As some of you know, I have struggled with infertility for the last couple of years. I often get asked if it is difficult to photograph newborns while dealing with all the emotions that come with infertility. The truth is, that yes, some days are really hard. But the full truth is that as soon as I hold that baby, I feel an overwhelming sense of renewed hope. I see the love in mama's eyes, the pride dad feels as he snuggles baby back to sleep, and all the sweet details that make each baby unique and I just feel honored to be a small part in this special time for these families.
As I get to know each families' story, I realize how unique and special each family is. Some families have also struggled with infertility, some had an incredibly difficult delivery, some have a partner who is deployed, some have a hard time adjusting to life with a newborn. I have come to realize that every family has something they struggle with and what a miracle each and every baby is. I am SO thankful for this life and for all the families that welcome me into their homes to be a part of their little miracle. <3

These sisters started to warm up to the idea that they could have fun during our photo shoot - not just pose and smile for pictures. I love it when that happens! And I love creating the fun that helps these moments take place. #funfamilyphotos#orangecountyminisessions#lagunahills
