CONNECTION TO THE LAND AND ROOTS
- RĀHINA/MONDAY -
"Whenua is the place where you stand. It is your connection to the land – a source of life, nourishment and wellbeing for everyone." MHAW.
For MHAW photo challenge 2019, I will be doing a throwback to my last trip back to my motherland China. It's also NZ Chinese Language Week, so I thought it's only fitting to kill two birds with one stone 🇨🇳🌿 .
Today's theme is a good place to start. I'm at a stage in life where I'm learning to be more proud of my roots of being Chinese and to reconnect with my culture that I once disowned due to wanting to assimilate to the kiwi culture. .

These are the beautiful smiling faces at Sandipani Muni School, one of the three schools that FFLV runs which educates 1500 girls and also pre-school children.
All girls are funded through sponsorship and donation. Girls here are a financial liability to their families so are usually not educated and are lost to marriage.
FFLV built the schools knowing that by educating the girls they could become independent, eventually get good jobs and support themselves. ❤️🙌🏽
Our tour guide who drove us through this Safari gave specific instructors “anything running is a meal for the lions so when they come close, be still and show no signs of fear.” Sometimes even in dubious circumstances we must stand still and face our fears. #southafrica2019 #wildlife#lionsofafrica#motherland#godscreation
Oh dang she really do be German! 🇩🇪 Bilingual bish coming through! Yes, I can read and speak German for all those who asked if I was actually German after yesterday’s post haha as if brat.worst and my appearance wouldn’t make it clear I’m European 😛🇩🇪 some key differences are I speak a dialect (Swabian/Schwäbisch) which did not go down so well when I visited Berlin and had the northerners look down their noses at me for not speaking the purest form of German 🤭 trying to improve my “proper/pure” German whilst maintaining my dialect now as dialects sort of become rarer and rarer even in their home regions as new generations are taught a more uniform way of speaking (I guess to avoid confusion... which I faced in Berlin at times as my dialect uses entirely different words sometimes or structures and so forth) 🇩🇪 truly deeply miss Germany! I would absolutely love to visit at least once a year even for just a week at a time to see my extended family and enjoy the one place I truly feel relaxed and welcomed by... I felt it immediately when I first visited at age 10... a huge sense of inner peace that I only ever feel when I’ve visited Germany 🤭🤭 all signs say move there perhaps hmm maybe one day... briefly! 🇩🇪

• Take time to remember •⠀
My husband and I have been married for 18 wonderful years. In those 18 years, there have many different seasons. Some seasons are full of excitement and times where we’re able to take time away with each other. Other seasons are busier or harder and yet we need to maintain freshness in our marriage. ⠀
I’m not speaking out of expertise or having mastered this, I’m right in the midst of figuring it out. I do know that marriages that last are not ones that never have any issues, but those that know how to navigate the hard and busy times.⠀
When things are busy or we’re in a hard season, it’s easy to do our own thing and do all the things that are on our to-do list. I’ve been there and done that and let me tell you, if you and I keep going like that, we will drift away from our husbands and our marriages will become stagnant and stale. ⠀
During those seasons, I’ve found that I need to consciously make a point to remember why I love my husband, the vows that I made on my wedding day, the fun times we’ve had, the connection we have had. When I remember those things, I try to figure out how I can bring moments of connection into our marriage in the midst of the busy.⠀
On a long day, in a busy season, we have to be more intentional in our connection. Take a moment to really ask how your husband is doing. Give him an intentional lingering hug or kiss as say goodbye in the morning. Make his favorite meal or buy his favorite snack. All these things help him to see that you’ve thought about him and made an effort. ⠀
We all wish we could live in the Instagram world of amazing coffee dates and beach getaways as a couple. But we all know that although there are times and seasons for that, it’s not practical on a regular basis. If we can continue to build our marriages in the daily, normal routine, our marriages will not just last, bit will be strong and able to weather any storm.
Personal favourite song on which I was dying to perform on but never thought would be able to on such a platform...........................a big shout-out and heartily thanks to @the.debating.society, @vr_we and Christ university for this amazing opportunity.
Happy week lovely friends ☕️
I confess in love to my native city - Kostroma.
Do you know that it is built in the shape of a fan?
No matter what street you go, it will lead you to the city center 🏘
