ᵃᵈ This is what it's like going stargazing in the South Downs! I can't tell you how beautiful the night skies are and how much fun I had stargazing here, but hopefully this video showcases just a little bit of that! For me, this was just the perfect microgap adventure with @VisitEngland - watch my video and you'll see why! ✨🔭 #MyMicrogap
BIRTHRIGHT 📜 There is a long-standing family story that we’re the rightful heirs to Leeds Castle! Yes, despite the fact it was sold on a few times. There was such a strong belief in the idea that one of my relatives looked into. Turns out it wasn’t entirely a fabrication; there was a baby but it was born, unsurprisingly, on the “wrong side of the sheets” ... 😂
🏰 Pitched as the loveliest castle in the world, Leeds Castle makes a very pleasant day trip from London. The castle itself took me about an hour to walk around, inc. sign reading and taking photos, but it could be longer if busier. There’s also some extensive grounds and gardens, as well as the quirky 🐶 collar museum.
💰 £27 for an Adult ticket, including repeat visits for a year, although I don’t know who actually gets around to using that!
🛌 There are number of accommodation options on site, if you want to make more than a day of it. B&B for a single room in the Stables Courtyard was £90/night which I thought was pretty good value, given that it includes access to the castle.
⏰ If you want the castle to yourself, go out of season and be there for opening. Even on a Sunday, I was one of the few inside.
🚂 Travel to Bearstead station and get a cab. There are public footpaths through the castle grounds but it wouldn’t recommend them for castle visitors.

Biscuit decorating at the prettiest biscuit shop going, Biscuiteers in Notting Hill. A good morning's work, fuelled by chai latte. So pleased with my pretty butterfly biscuits but they look too good to eat! 🦋 #mymicrogap
Give 'em the two fingers and get in the zone with @archeryfit who can show you the ropes. 🏹 The sport comes with all sorts of mental and physical benefits and your mates will be able to turn to you if a battle from the Middle Ages ever kicks off! 😉🎯
Tombland Alley - the wonky walkway where some of the buildings date back to 1549, and possibly even earlier.

Thankfully the wind dropped (a little) and the sun came out for today's Beginner's #Naviation Training course in #Edale . Thanks everyone for helping to make it such a fun day of learning. Hope to catch up again soon.
Thanks too to the @pennypotcafe for providing great cakes 🍰, hot drinks ☕ and warm fire 🔥
NORTH DOWNS WAY 🍃 Detling to Lenham 👇
It’s been a few months since I tackled another stretch of this trail, as my legs were keen to remind me, and I fancied a weekend away, so a hike plus a castle seemed like a good combo. In hindsight, I probably shouldn’t have gone out the weekend following two storms; the path was unbelievably muddy with trees and signs blown all over the place. But the rain mostly stayed away and it was nice to see some of the infamous Kentish countryside.
🥾 Storm damage aside, this section of the trail hasn’t been particularly well maintained with some misleading way points and overgrown paths.
🏰 If, like me, you’re a fan of some ruins, Thurnham Castle makes a nice little detour. Building in Leeds Castle at the halfway point was probably a bit much... 🤦♀️
🍽 The Dirty Habit (Hollingbourne) is just over half way and is well worth a visit. Aspall cyder has never tasted so good, and I’d highly recommend the vegan burger. There’s also a pretty decent chippy in Lenham.
🚂 Bearsted station to start (1.7 miles from the trail) and Lenham (1.1 miles) to finish. The stations are on the same line into London so worth getting a return into Lenham to save on getting two singles.
The Castle Bude, once home to Cornwall’s ‘forgotten genius’, Sir Goldsworthy Gurney. The inventor is credited to have created modern radiators, masterminded London’s smallest police station and pioneered a new type of extremely bright lighting used in theatres later leading to the saying ‘in the limelight’ // #CoastalTimetripping
Evening all @brisvadar here with a ‘Goodnight’ shot of the beautiful Bristol Harbourside. Hope you’ve all enjoyed following the ‘stories’ today - see you tomorrow for more of my @visitbristol Takeover weekend! .
I’ve officially (finally) finished posting photos from my back catalog of travel shots. I’m heading to Istanbul next month, but until then I’m gonna be sharing photos of my hometown of Norwich. I’ve been really trying to learn to appreciate the surroundings I grew up in with my camera, learning to see places I’ve walked past thousands of times through a different lens.
Pictured here is golden hour over the river that runs through the city centre, with its iconic cathedral in the background.
Good afternoon everyone! @brisvadar here continuing the start of my @visitbristol weekend takeover. If you’ve not had the opportunity to take the @bristolferry before I’d highly recommend it....see Bristol from a completely different perspective; So good!! Here are the @bristolmuseums MShed cranes as seen from the stern of ferry boat ‘Emily’ earlier today! .
Good afternoon everyone! @brisvadar here for my weekend takeover of the @visitbristol page! Enjoying a wander through Castle Park and heading for a spot of lunch! A bit grey out there today but hoping I can share with you some of what I think makes Bristol such a superb city!! Keep your eyes on the ‘Stories’....I’ve been busy already! Have a great weekend everyone! Andrew 😁
Still feeling very sluggish coming back to work week and the first day at work yesterday has been a real struggle. The commute and the weather doesn’t help too. Are you going through the same experience?
Friday night thoughts: This is the year I focus on some of the things I’ve just been thinking about for a while. Last year was all about finding a new job. Seriously, that’s all it felt like 2019 was about. This year is all about practising photography and editing, exploring more of the UK, and saving that dollar for a sweet flat or camper van (really I just want somewhere to decorate). I’m also keen to get more creative - pottery and screen printing classes, I’m looking at you - and go snowboarding again, because nothing takes my mind of everything more than being really cold and throwing myself down a hill at high speeds 🏂
