Toyota Cressida, the history or chronology of the Toyota Cressida is quite complicated. It was originally known as the Corona Mark II up until the the X70 Model (the one in this picture) where they dropped the Corona name and simply called it the Mark II.
It was also called a Chaser or Cressida (MX73) in some markets including right here in Mzansi.
The top of the range had a digital display which we affectionately called “computer speed” while growing up.
Interestingly this was the Cressida that Nelson Mandela took his first ride in after being released from prison after 27 years. He was driven in this followed by another Cressida but an older model and predecessor to this one, the X60 version.
We at MzansiRides have over the years called the Cressida the Lobola Chief Negotiator Mobil, a name which many also use today.
So on this Sunday let’s celebrate this classic. Pictured here is one given a bit of that MzansiRides flavor owned by the king of Cressidas @mapscressking
