While on tour today at Caracol we came across this wintering light morph Broad-winged Hawk. During migration broadies can observed in kettles numbering in the thousands at some hawk watch sites. Here in Belize they winter in small numbers usually in broadleaf forests in areas like Caracol, Lamanai and the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary. This past season 1400+ individuals were observed at the Belize Bird Conservancy Hawkwatch site in Punta Gorda as they were migrating southward.
Beautiful day with the Eagles. Here is a sequence of an Eagle taking off of a branch. I finally got several shots in a row without losing track of him. Notice the blood and feathers on the beak. I’m hooked!
In safe hands 🐨🙏
