A beautiful new video by Colombian artist Jessica Mitrani, To Reincarnate as a Palm Tree (2019), is showing at OCD C for its last weekend and it is a must-see. There is also a closing party on Tuesday January 21 which includes performances by Afrikan Sciences and Brian Close. #interview#online#now “I was born in Barranquilla, on the Atlantic coast of Colombia. My own family came over from Morocco, Turkey, and Romania—Jews fleeing persecution. But I grew up surrounded by Afro-Caribbean culture, and I came to understand this as a territory of visceral inspiration and integration, both direct and indirect. “My interest in Afrofuturism as an expression of overlapping temporalities is inspired by my transformative encounters with the Iboga plant. The myth––or perhaps not-so-science fiction––is that the root was planted by beings from the stars, in order to trigger deeper cosmic awakenings when the time was ripe. “My hope is always to be open, to be permeable. To encounter without appropriating, to listen and to learn, and to share what I have learned.” @jessicasofiamitrani@ocdchinatown@brainclosed@afrikansciences

2019 just proved to me how true this is. When I let go of the tight leash I had on my life, the control over ever little thing about to happen, that was when my life began to manifest everything I ever needed. Just try it. Let go. There is no such thing as control. This resistance to what is — it’s exhausting.
•• STOP & NOTICE ••
Since we came back from Panama to a rainy, very busy reality, full of expectations, responsibilities and brain clutter, I gave myself a promise. To STOP & NOTICE. Easier done while on holiday, sure, but these are the moments where I can look around me and really receive, witness, take in all the gifts that life is offering me. I promised myself to notice the small things that surround me, to not take those details for granted. If I don’t do this, I run constantly. I’m out of breath and yet I keep running. Everything around me gets blurry but I keep going. I lose complete sight of the journey, my energy; I’m in survival mode.
We’re only back since a week but for now I’m able to remind myself to pause and honour my abundant life. For now I’m able to treasure those little gifts around me, like this moment of today’s practice where I could for the first time extend my left arm 🖤 Thank you life! I noticed your intention and it made me happy!
Friends, if you see me run a non-stop marathon again, please remind me to pause and I’ll be forever grateful!
