It's a drizzly old day here, so I'm kind of happy that the class I signed up for tonight has been cancelled because I need some coziness. And once this fire gets going, I imagine this room in William Penn's manor home would be very warm and toasty. Pass me the marshmallows, please 🤗 #Pennsbury#williampenn#pennsylvania#fireplace#historic

... All about Today
Rain soaked moist air.
Fall colors against the grey welkin.
Baby plants slowly foresting my window edge.
Memory of Ganges flowing under the boisterous bridge.
Endless stories about an ancient city.
A hot mug of coffee-dark as night, bitter as sin.
And some magic I cannot do without.
Ghosts, ghosts, and more...after all...it is October isn’t it? Our recent trip to a mountainous resort in Bedford Pennsylvania made us stop for dinner at the famous Jean Bonnet Tavern. Known to be one of the most haunted places in the state, people come from miles around for their food or lodging with the hopes of spotting a ghost or two. The property can also speak to the history of the Whiskey Rebellion and George Washington. Actually, this entire area is full of history. More to come in a future post on the Jean Bonnet. For now, I will leave you with a photo of the Cabin Shoppe which is located on the property of the Jean Bonnet. Built in the 1700’s, the cabin was later moved here. The night that I took this was after dinner and it felt more like a winter evening in Pennsylvania instead of Fall. All I remember was snapping the photo and running to the car. I think I may have seen a snowflake that night! No, I didn’t see any ghosts!😂👻🧡🍁🎃 #jeanbonnettavern#bedfordpa#pennsylvania#hauntedplaces#history#hauntedhistory#cabin#bedfordpatourism
Strasburg Rail Road| Strasburg, Pennsylvania | c. 1832
The Strasburg Rail Road is the oldest continuously operating railroad in the Western hemisphere, however, it almost never came to be had it not been for a group of savvy businessmen who were determined to salvage the small town of Strasburg’s economy in the early 1830s
In the early 19th century, canals replaced wagons as the primary method of transporting goods. When the Susquehanna Canal opened, its route bypassed Philadelphia and the majority of goods were directed towards Baltimore, Maryland, with a small amount traveling through Strasburg. To reclaim their place as a port city, Philadelphia constructed the Philadelphia and Columbia Railroad, bypassing Strasburg
Committed to maintaining the town’s livelihood, a group of businessmen petitioned the Pennsylvania state government for the right to build their own railroad connecting Strasburg to the Philadelphia and Columbia rail line. In 1832, the Governor signed the charter, and within five years, the rail line was fully operational
The Strasburg Railroad thrived and operated for over one hundred years until 1958, when declining freight business and infrequent runs threatened its closure. After its owner passed away and the estate considered abandoning the Rail Road, railway enthusiasts Henry K. Long and Donald. E.L. Hallock organized a non-profit to purchase the railroad. Tourist excursions began running the following year
Hosting 300,000 visitors per year, the Strasburg Rail Road currently offers excursion trains hauled by five steam locomotives along 4.5 miles of track in Pennsylvania Dutch Country. It’s has the nation’s largest operating fleet of historic wooden passenger coaches and offers rides in lounge and dining cars where passengers can enjoy the countryside
