So we had a month's worth of rain around Melbourne yesterday! If you have your pot outside in the elements, make sure you let it dry out again before its next water. This was a very popular topic at the market on Sunday! 🌧🌵🌞

Cultivation and Propagation:Gethyllis villosa comes from the winter rainfall regions of south-western Africa, producing its miniature whirlwinds of leaves in early winter. The leaves usually curl better if given good light. It would probably look even better in a hot dry environment. It is one of the most difficult members to cultivate successfully over an extended period. It is a winter-growing and summer-dormant species that needs to be kept almost dry during its dormancy as the bulbs is disposed to dwindle and rot.Its summer rest must be absolute and does not initiate new foliage until the cooling effects of autumn. This plant may or may not have foliage in the heat of the summer. If it does have foliage, during the hottest part of summer, the foliage and plant may look ratty but as long as the bulb is firm the plant is in good health and it will improve in appearance once new foliage initiates in the autumn.A great plant for the southern rock garden as well.
Exposure:Prefers some direct sun but will scorch in hot, sunny, dry locations.
Waterings:Water sparingly when growing and a little care, it is a definite water-wise species. The curling of the leaf tips is largely dependent on weather conditions.Cool dry conditions encourage the leaf tips to curl, while warm most conditions tends to encourage erect, straight, uncurled leaf tips. When flowers begin to appear, water should be withheld in order to avoid rot.If the plants are allowed to dry too much, they will go dormant. #houseplants#indoorplants#plantlover#green#mygarden#cactus#succulent#plant#cactuslover#plantstagram#succulents#gardening#houseplantclub#garden#urbangarden#jardim#botany#plantlife#gardenlife#greenthumb#plantas#foliage#botanical#succulove#plantlove#kaktus#cacti#plantsmakepeoplehappy #💚 #Gethyllis
Cultivation and Propagation: is one of easiest species to grow but prone to root rot due to overwaterings and lack of fresh air. Esposure: Indoors only in brightest position. Watering: Water normally in the growing season, sparsely in the winter. Hardiness: It is usually recommended to over-winter them in warm conditions (at 10° C), but despite their African origins they seem to grow well and flower without the extra heat which one might have thought necessary, and occasional temperatures near 0°C (or less) are tolerated, if kept dry. Spring: In the spring leaving them out in the rain may provide them with the water they need. Summer: In the summer months they will grow well in full sun or partial shade and tolerate heavy rain, but will be just as happy if the season is dry. Propagation: Propagation is done mainly from seed. Cuttings are not really an option, as the severed ends very rarely form a callus from where roots will eventually form. Seeds are produced in March and April of each year (Europe). The seed horns must be semi-dry and starting to split down the middle before seed can be collected. If you try to take a cutting allows it to dry several days before planting. #houseplants#indoorplants#plantlover#green#mygarden#cactus#succulent#plant#cactuslover#plantstagram#succulents#gardening#houseplantclub#garden#urbangarden#jardim#botany#plantlife#gardenlife#greenthumb#plantas#foliage#botanical#succulove#plantlove#kaktus#cacti#plantsmakepeoplehappy #💚 #Hoodia
This is why I grow calatheas. 💥🙌 This is why I constantly wipe spider mites, check soil moisture multiple times a week, trim mysteriously crispy leaves, deal with unexpected deaths, and buy them distilled water. 😅 Unfortunately you can only see them at their best angle if you stand on the couch and look down at them. 😂🤷♀️
This monstera adansonii cutting has been sitting in water for months and I still haven’t gotten around to planting it. The roots are huge now so I should probably get it into soil sooner than later! So many cuttings, never enough pots 🤦🏻♀️
