The biggest job was to reinsulate the tunnel between the kiln and the chimney. This previously had a mix of clay, straw and vermiculite, but as it wasn't under the roof it was just a wet mush. So we added a cavity wall, making a brick wall about 10cm off the kiln, and filled the gap with vermiculite.
We also improved the covers over the spy holes - previously just ceramic fibre with a brick on top, and the fibre fell onto the pots below.
Finally, we extended the hearth area in front of the firebox, giving people more space to create their different configurations.
Two #espresso / small #cappuccino mugs. It was a lot of fun giving these guys to a close friend of mine here in Frankfurt who has always been a pottery fan and who was the very first to encourage me to start selling my pieces. Even though she has a zillion things going on, she always makes time for her friends and for doing what she loves. She inspires me to be more ambitious and she has one of the biggest hearts I know. Foverever grateful to this dear friend 💗

I made this for my break room at work because even though I don’t drink the nasty free coffee that is offered, many of my lovely coworkers do and they need something better than a plastic lid to put the stir spoon on. Also, do I use this blue glaze too much? Nope, it’s so pretty. I should use it on everything. #coffeespoonrest#spoonrest#texture#glazed#pottery#handmade#ceramics

I tried something a little different when glazing these mugs yesterday. With a paint brush a dabbed splotches of different colors randomly around the mug. With these ones I used teal, purple, and white. I happy with how the glazes dripped and melded with each other, BUT they dripped a little to much. I made 7 mugs in this style and color and every one of them fused to the kiln shelf from the glaze dripping down right off of the mug. Though these look pretty they are all missing chunks around the base so they won’t be for sale tonight. I am, however, going to make available a preorder option for this style of mug, because I’ll get it right the next time around.
I love the birds chirping in the background so soothing 🐦🌕

It was also really hard to film while turning this pot all the way around 🤣
Soila Rodríguez and Rufino Cruz are proud of being teaching and happy because their students are willing to learn and work fast. Soila specially wants her students to acquire the skills needed to keep working in order not to need to emigrate. Although this masters are pretty skillful, Rufino Cruz traveled twice to the United States to find a job and received an inhuman treatment. After that, their daughter emigrated to find better opportunities. #talento#creatividad#ceramica#migracion#ceramics#pottery#workshops#talleresdeceramica#ceramicamexicana#ceramica#ceramicsart#ceramicworkshop#alwayslearning#workshopsinmexico

A multitude of pots, simple thrown shapes with uncomplicated glazes. I’ve always been a ‘less is more’ potter. I make pots that I can imagine myself living with and using, it’s as straightforward as that.
Although that hasn’t ended up happening yet, instead the pots I use at home are an eclectic mix of pieces made by my friends, potters I aspire to, pieces given to me and ones that I’ve bought. I somehow accumulated a vast amount of pottery during my apprenticeship with Lisa Hammond—we’d travel to various ceramics fairs around the country every year and I always saw something I liked.
Now the cupboard is stuffed with literal piles of handmade mugs that are wood fired, soda fired, and electric and gas fired, there’s drippy earthenware pieces, clean and simple porcelain, all sorts. As the years go by I tend to use the same mugs time and time again for coffee but every few months what I choose from the shelves changes, favourites come and go and some smash, but what I like so much is that each is different and I appreciate the differences in each one.

Looks like the bisque firing was a success. Good thing, because it was packed right to the top. Do you tumble stack your bisque firings? It took me a while to work up the courage, but it’s always worked out fine. These will have to be split into two glaze firings - the first will include pieces for the bud vase subscription and mugs for a newly-minted married couple, and the second will be for a shop update. I can’t wait to have some new work available!
