All year groups have been taking part in the Daily Mile and children are enjoying beating their personal bests. Collectively, we have already completed enough miles to ‘run to New York’ this term! Wow!
The Daily Mile is a popular and free initiative, which encourages children to run for 15 minutes every day at school with their friends, improving their physical and mental wellbeing.
Our pupils have joined over 2 million children across 78 countries who are benefiting from running for fun every day.

Welcome to Playground Safari, a (moderately tongue-in-cheek) guide to the (human) animals and their young, whose natural habitat is primary schools and their playgrounds and PTA’s across the U.K.. Join us as we travel deep into these animals’ heartland, as the sun rises over the tarmac, and jeeps begin to arrive at the watering hole, as the sound of the cries and chatter of their young carries on the breeze. These animals do not care about your presence; they have their iPhones in hand and playground politics to worry about, and though you might get a passing glance, they are on the lookout for more immediate threats, like the new member of the PTA committee quietly planning to oust the Chair. It’s a jungle (bush?) out there...

Absolutely crazy week it has been!
But amongst all the madness, something that melts my heart:
My alma mater turns 90 this year. Our dear #Rulang Primary, which saw both my mom and I from kids to teens, has flourished through the years, produced top scholars alongside its branded counterparts, and is well regarded amongst top primary schools.
I stand proud as an alumni, and hope my children will grow up as proud as I am.

This is now available for Members to download. It will also shortly be available on the Seomra Ranga TPT Store.
Even though I've been in my job since August I'm still finding out new things pretty much every day😅 I found there's 3 whole rooms dedicated to SEN materials, I was shown a whole shed full of tuff tray materials, which I've recently become obsessed with #tufftray 😂 I love being able to make things and try new things for my 1:1, even if I do even talk about it in my sleep according to some people 😂 Even though at the minute it feels like I've got so much to do with my apprenticeship coursework, making things for my 1:1, thinking of new and exciting activities to do for maths and RWI, planning what activities I could do for different interventions, doing online courses and constantly making new stuff to bring into school, I know it's all going to pay off eventually 🥰
Afrikaans First Additional Lanaguage reading... Need I say more... Biliteracy is very important if you want a child to read & write in their home language & first additional language. Reading is an important life skill & parents should read to their children from birth & instill a love & interest in books as much as possible. With this in mind, all children are different & grow & develop differently. As parents & teachers, we need to create an interest in reading at an early stage, & feed that interest at a later stage.
There are many reading skills that transfer between languages & it can actually make children stronger readers in both languages.
As a 3rd Grade teacher, I often notice that some of my learners battle with their Afrikaans reading (especially in the beginning of the year). They struggle with the pronunciation of the words, & need a lot of assistance to work through their weekly reader. For this reason I encourage continuous practice of Afrikaans reading at home. I also love putting my learners into their reading groups & have them read in groups or to each other. This is such a wonderful way for them to practice their weekly reader and to learn from each other. 📚 I also suggest having the parents sign their child up for a library card, & once a month taking them to the library to take out a few books (maybe one or two Afrikaans books). This will allow them to choose books that interest them, & offer them additional practice, over & above their weekly class reader.
