Today we are thinking of the gentleman that is Sir Ben Helfgott on the occasion of his 90th birthday.
Sir Ben is a member of the Claims Conference's negotiating delegation and beloved lay leader of the organization. His devotion to Holocaust remembrance and education and the tireless work he does on the behalf of his fellow survivors is an inspiration.
Born in Poland, Sir Ben is a survivor of the Piotrkow and Theresienstadt ghettos and the Buchenwald concentration camp. His mother Sara, father Moishe and sister Luisa were murdered by the Nazis; when Sir Ben was liberated in 1945 at age 15, he and his sister Mala were the family’s sole survivors.

“Everybody was so terrible about her until the day after that marriage and then everything changed, which says something about the power of becoming a member of the Royal Family. To Camilla’s credit, she has not put a foot wrong since that day. Today you see the Royal Family on the Buckingham Palace balcony and you do not hear that word “dysfunctional” any more. I think people realised that Charles always loved Camilla from the start and that theirs was the real love affair. They recognised that Charles was deeply unhappy, not only with Diana but by himself and that Camilla was the one to make him happy again.” - Royal author Hugo Vickers

"Of course she[Camilla] is the love of his [Charles] life; there is no denying that now, since he has made a clean breast of it himself.” - Lord Charteris, Queen Elizabeth's former private secretary

“If people think I am strong, then it's all thanks to my family. I had so much love and security growing up, I never doubted my family would be there for me in times of crisis. Whatever happended, I knew I was wanted and loved.” - HRH Camilla The Princess of Wales Duchess of Cornwall

#QueenElizabeth has stripped #PrinceAndrew of his royal salary and banished him from public life to punish him for fraternizing with notorious #childsexoffender#JeffreyEpstein and attempting to cover it up in a disastrous BBC interview earlier this week, according to British reports. #BuckinghamPalace is ‘braced’ for the ‘imminent’ arrival of a subpoena summoning #PrinceAndrew to give evidence under oath in the US, according to the Telegraph, but leading Queen’s Counsel barrister Baroness Helena Kennedy said she’d advise Andrew never to go to #America again in case he is arrested and sentenced to prison and can never leave.
Prince Andrew is back at Buckingham Palace today to see the Queen for the first time since she fired him from public duties as a member of the #RoyalFamily .
The solemn-looking #DukeofYork is expected to discuss losing his £249,000 ($322,719) taxpayer-funded salary and how his future will be limited to smaller private family events in crisis talks with his mother this afternoon.
Andrew is also expected to ask permission to continue his charity Pitch Palace without royal patronage, after a number of major corporations pulled their sponsorship to avoid being associated with the toxic prince due to his #pedophile connections.
Earlier Prince Andrew had smiled and waved as he left his Windsor home driving his £170,000 Bentley Flying Spur sports car as calls for him to give evidence to the FBI under oath reached fever pitch.
DailyMail report: Andrew’s public life is largely over at the age of 59 after the Queen discussed the crisis with heir to throne #PrinceCharles before summoning her distraught ‘favorite son’ to the palace to deliver the bad news yesterday evening.
Charles, who is in #NewZealand with his wife Camilla until Saturday, is said to have stepped in and made it clear his younger brother must be cut adrift without delay.
The brothers recently had high-profile rows over whether Andrew’s daughters Beatrice and Eugenie should enjoy the perks given to Charles’ children William and Harry – and now the sisters’ public roles and income are likely to fall after their father’s demise. .

The Prince of Wales looked at the manufacturing process of products made out of plastic waste, during a visit to Critical Design, an Auckland based company that manufactures a range of office & homeware products from recycled materials at Wesley Intermediate School on the second day of the royal visit, on 18 November, 2019 in Auckland, New Zealand.
The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall are on an 8-day tour of New Zealand. It is their third joint visit to New Zealand and first in four years.
Colin Tennant & Anne Glenconner (pictured with Princess Margaret crowding around a tray of macaroni & cheese) observed that, ‘We gave the Princess and Tony a tour of the island on a tractor. I said: “Ma’am, would you like something from Asprey in a box as a wedding present, or perhaps you would like this piece of land?” She waved her arm & said: “Oh, the land!”’. | | 1960s

Film star Tom Hardy has been made a CBE for services to drama by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.
On Princess Margaret’s first visit to Mustique, which was then still a “mosquito-infested rock”, her longtime friend and lady-in-waiting, Anne Glenconner, says, “she showered like everyone else, using a bucket with holes in it, suspended from a tree and screened by a piece of sailcloth. They lived off fresh fish, tough lobster and tinned food ... She didn’t seem to mind. It was all an adventure to her, something she’d never had in her life”. | | By Lord Snowdon, 1969
